I have only watched that show one time, last week when Adler shot up and they had him arrested. I've seen that heroin slouch soooo many times, done in all kinds of different ways by my junkie friends from the 70's. Really sad to see, but I couldn't stop watching him do it because I hadn't seen anyone do it in such a long time.

Reminded me of a couple that we knewthat were junkies (but they had jobs and all of that, you wouldn't have known if you saw them on the street). We met them at a restaurant for dinner one night, along with our 7-month-old son. When they came in we knew they'd just shot up, even though they said they weren't going to. Don't do it around my son, asshole. The woman would chide me for allowing my son to hit his cup on the table - between nodding off into her plate. Last time we did that.

But why would people want to put themselves on TV doing that shiat?

I would be totally willing to let Dr. Drew put his arms around me and tell me it will be okay:

I feel as though it's my job to remind farkers that Dr. Drew is insanely hot. He can ice my cupcakes!

There are good rehab centers and then there are places like Dr.Drew runs. He's just another attention whore.

No, the "patients" are the whores. He's a pimp.

All you have to do is realize that the guy from Taxi has been through rehab with Dr. Drew several times, and he is obviously not getting any better. If Dr. Drew were a decent doctor he'd admit he has failed that guy and get him another doc.

What? You mean addicts can go through rehab and still relapse? Stop the presses!

When Guns N Roses gets inducted into the R&R HOF and get back together for a reunion tour, Adler will probably be dead.

Dr. Drew is no good for these people. They dont want to get better they want to be on TV and hope to get better along the way. Most of they time they just relapse like most addicts. If Dr. Drew was smart he would realize he isnt helping these people and stop the show.

I think Adler deserves infinite chances. There should be an over/under on how many times proclaims his sobriety and desire to improve his life before he dies of an overdose.

/Good riddance.

I can't believe I used to respect Dr. Drew when I was 13 years old and stayed up late listening to Loveline.

So Dr Drew has no problem with people who abuse steroids?

That body is attainable with good genetics and a damn good work ethic.

But as we all know, anyone huge is just using steroids. Steroids do all the work.

Did you know that half of the MLB uses steroids? That is why half of the MLB hits 80+ homeruns a year. Because steroids do all the work for you.

Steven Adler does heroin?

That's what I heard too!

Oh Man.

VH1 cashing in on some poor, junky slobs is one of the lowest points in cable-tv history.

Dr. Drew might as well be tearing off their flesh with his teeth.

I wouldn't blame all this on Drew.
As someone who has 15 years clean under his belt after 10 years of screwing around, I can assure that Adler has no desire to quit doing what he is doing. He talks about it, but that's about it. He won't address his issues, he won't listen to anyone, nothing. He just talks about it and thinks that if he sits at the rehab, he will get better. He should have been kicked out long ago. Lots of drug attics talk about quitting. Talking won't work. You do it or you don't, but you don't talk about it.
What I do blame Drew for is not kicking his ass to the curb.

TheOtherOne79 [TotalFark] 2009-02-02 11:51:20 AM
How big of an addict does one have to be to get kicked out of Guns and Roses? Almost be like Richard Manuel telling you that you have a drinking problem.

This. As someone who's dealt with addiction of a teen son I can tell you all the best treatment in the world is pointless unless that person wants to quit and makes a personal commitment to do so. At best, all a facility and a doctor can do is provide support and counselling, but if the addict doesn't take it seriously, the job is failed. It's not like a contractor you hire to do work, and once that work is done, he's done. There are no guarantees in the rehab business.

I couldn't watch one of these about heroin addiction. It hits too close to home. That shiat is pure evil in a syringe.

zunkus 2009-02-02 03:04:42 PM
Having been through rehab myself I can assure you that it has little to do with Dr Drew himself or even the rehab center itself, it comes down to the person. People are going to relapse or not because of their choices. All these places can do is educate a person and show them a different way of living, its up to the individual whether or not they want to follow this advice.

Brubold 2009-02-02 03:13:26 PM
I've watched the first couple of episodes of Sober House. They flat out tell the viewers that the odds are that one patient will make it through without a relapse. Odds are that one person in that house is going to be Rodney King (yes, that one). He's the only one that wasn't a moron on their first night of freedom. The rest of them went to a club where they'd be tempted to relapse all night.

I think Dr. Drew does an admirable job. I wasn't ever a fan of his before the shows but he seems to do what he can for his patients. I don't think the relapses are his fault. It's just the odds of someone making it are really small.

I watch that show and Celebrity Rehab because I used to do some of that stuff back in the day and there but for the grace of God go I. I just root for these people to make it.

Indeed.
And as for that show, the only serious person in that rehab was Rodney King. The rest just treated their addiction as a serious inconvenience.
And if you watch Sober House, you are already seeing that.

Sorry to RTFA, but this is an old charge. He just didn't do his community service, thus he was re-arrested and given the original charge from his July arrest.

Dr. Drew talked about steroid abuse with the ubercrazy ChynaDoll on Celebrity rehab 1. She denied it while looking like a man. That was a classic conversation.
