The little roundies will still hide snacks between their rolls. Unless the exercise is a ploy to shake the fun-sizes out of them like fleshy pinatas.

Ed Willy: Better Solution More of this (pic of playset)

I worked for a while taking pictures for a Realtor friend. I was amazed at how many pristine playsets there are in the burbs. No scuff marks, no worn areas. The only difference from new is weathering. Daddy and Mommy must have dropped big bucks on some of these sets. If it was me, I would have kicked the kids out to play on them. "Goddammit, you wanted it . . go and play!"

However the game controllers were well used.

The kids don't need the education. The parents do. And it begins with the diet, not baby yoga.

FTFA: The "movercise" classes teach children "stretching, dancing, jogging, balancing and jumping techniques in a fun environment".

On ONE year olds? This should fall down well......

IdleHands 2009-02-01 11:25:38 PM
Obese one year olds? I dunno, at some point shouldn't you turn to the parents and order them to child nutrition/parenting classes?

octopied 2009-02-01 11:26:55 PM
I was pretty chubby as a baby. At one month old, my mother could no longer button the baby sweater the neighbor lady knit for me, and a few months later, I had to rock back and forth on my knees to get momentum when trying to crawl. But once I got into the crawling and walking stage, I wasn't very chubby at all.

Not to mention the number of playgrounds that get closed because the councils can't afford the insurance, since farknut parents want to sue because their kid grazed a knee jumping off the top of the slippery dip.

FTA: "[O]ne in five children aged four and five in Stockport are obese or overweight... by the time the children reach the age of 11, this figure jumps to nearly one in three."

One in five to one in three? That's not a comparison, you just counted two fewer not-fat kids the second time! Crazy British math... Also how big is the "nearly fat" eleven-year-old?

I have a hazy recollection of, as a kid, staging a kiddie pool (non-inflatable type) at the top of a slide a loading it up with kids and going down the slide.... oh good times.. good times

I picked up a bunch of 'visitor passes' for a local gym for a song here a few weeks ago. I've been hitting the place a few times a week lately.

So, I had a bit of time on Saturday so I dropped by. I kept hearing a bunch of noise coming from the back of the place and tried to drown it out with my mp3 player.

Apparently the kids (5-10yos) in the back room had a break, and a flood of kids came rushing toward the lounge. Several of them proudly walked away from the machines with Pop-Tarts.

Yeah, I'm a bit annoyed that the machines stocked those...

No that's not it, it's because they are death traps. Sure most of us as kids played on metal playground equipment on concrete slabs or bare earth and lived, but that doesn't count.

/in the 80's we played on large unused concrete sewer piping, complete with rusting rebar...at school.
//My kids today can't make fricking snowmen at school, or climb up the 20-25 foot snow piles around the parking lots.

Hows this... 20% of 4 and 5 year olds are obese or overweight... compared to 33% of 11 year olds

sometimes i don't get you, barakku - first you slam toddler promiscuity and then you condemn those that try to legitamize their union.

i think maybe you just don't like children.

Baby fat is normal. If there are actually overweight infants, it could be a sign of some pathogen involvement ... something abnormal.
It's undoubtedly part of the alien invasion program ... infecting the population and fattening up the masses ... to be used as FOOD!!

Point of order: Don't 'soccer moms' have kids who play soccer? Wouldn't their kids be in better shape in general?

T. Dawg 2009-02-02 12:09:45 AM
Mr. Dawg and I spent at lest a good twenty minutes running in circles in our living room chasing our 13-month-old.

I can't imagine any of us getting fatter any time soon :P

//broken bones build character

pvd021 2009-02-02 12:13:28 AM
I blame it all on the parents entirely. Either your fatass should have known better to breed children, or your dumbass should be able to provide the kid with a well balanced meal, and grow a farking backbone and deal with the kids crying instead of feeding it every time your snowball cries. And if you can't afford feeding your kids real food instead of all that processed shiat, then who's fault is that?

//Competency test to all those who want to have children.

cuzsis 2009-02-02 12:19:03 AM
I love the way they try to make it sound like the 1yr olds are lazy and won't get off their fat butts and exercise..

FTFA:"We felt it was important to start with our young children so that the message that exercise is fun starts as soon as possible."
The "movercise" classes teach children "stretching, dancing, jogging, balancing and jumping techniques in a fun environment".

That's really ridiculous.

If a 1yr old is overweight is probably a nutrition problem, coupled with parents who never take them out of their baby swings long enough to actually let them explore the world.

For toddlers, well, if you've got a toddler that doesn't get up and move around a *lot* something is probably wrong. Yeah, you get the occasional "homebodies" that just like to sit and chill, but most toddlers won't *stop* moving!

It's really depressing come to think of it...
