Some churches choose to allow guns, some churches choose to not allow guns, parishioners choose which church they want to attend. Sounds like everyone can have their own choice. So what exactly is the problem?

CougarJeff [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 01:28:19 PM
Probably nothing.

queezyweezel 2009-02-01 01:33:47 PM
It's Arkansas. They already have turkey shoots every other weekend AT THE CHURCH!

neapoi 2009-02-01 01:38:16 PM
Lots of folks actually have 'church guns'. Really beautiful revolvers and the like.

Whatever, just let people decide for themselves.

Mordant [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 01:44:29 PM
won't affect me, let em bring rocket launchers if they want.

lurkster [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 01:58:04 PM
You have to have some sort of protection against the poisonous snakes.

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 02:22:14 PM
Wait, so people really do cling to guns and religion?

arkansas [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 02:58:44 PM
lurkster: You have to have some sort of protection against the poisonous snakes.

Now that makes sense.

namatad [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 03:47:12 PM

I dunno, but as long as religious groups (ie United Methodists, Unitarian Universalists) keep acting like political lobbies to thwart firearm possession by Americans, and adhere to strong anti-gun philosophies that they conflate with their religions, doesn't it just advertise them to angry nutbars who decide to go shoot up a bunch of people that this is a building filled with soft, mostly pink, unarmed targets? Way to go.

baka-san [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 03:58:33 PM
OMFG! THERE IS AN EPIDEMIC OF CHURCH SHOOTING! WE NEED TO BE ARMED IN CHURCH!!!!

Oh, wait, there isn't.

Nice to know that Arkansas has solved all the other problems it has...

Oh wait, it hasn't.

Tr0mBoNe [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 04:06:16 PM
They've gotta have some defence if the Devil tries to corner them. Round churches are hard to build and expensive.

Darth_Lukecash [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 04:28:30 PM
My mother lives in Arkansas. My step Dad was born there, and he decided to move back there to retire.

It is definitely a different world there. And yet very similar to ours.

But if they have snake dancers in church, I suppose gun churchin' is just as cool!

What could possibly go wrong is that humanity is rid a few more idiots.

Sounds good to me.

The worst that could happen is shorter services.

akula 2009-02-01 05:29:10 PM
Well, seeing as how many states already allow it and there's a complete and total lack of people shooting up their churches, I'd say that absolutely NOTHING will happen. As a matter of fact, the one instance of which I am aware where a legally carried weapon was used in church was used to stop a nutcase who was already violating several laws regarding murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

People who carry firearms in accordance with the law are NOT the ones who are out going nuts and shooting people for no reason. T'were that the case, we'd see the blood running in the street that the leftists continually preach about. It hasn't happened yet.

As for those who pull the "let the religious nutjobs shoot each other," well, I guess there isn't squat I can do about your asshattery, so have at it and get it out of your system.

Says a lot about the persons faith who feels the need to bring a gun to church though.

lewismarktwo 2009-02-01 05:32:05 PM
My uncle lives in Oklahoma and is a regular church goer. Most people (ok most men) are armed every Sunday. One time a tweeker waltzed in and tried to hold up the place. The pastor or whatever just said "Son, I don't think you wanna do that." No one pulled a gun on him or anything, but the confident stares of a hundred good old boy farmers caused him to 'skedaddle post haste'.

So uhh... what's the problem with guns in church?

Freepers will be shot before they murder people like that guy in Tennessee?

Get a clue, liberals. Most gun violence is perpetrated by right-wingers, who are only going to become more unstable in a Democratic America. Arm yourself to protect yourself.

Churches are very dangerous places. You'd better pack heat just in case.

DarkSoulNoHope 2009-02-01 05:39:04 PM
Just as long as they don't use a gun to force me to follow their religion, then I am fine with this idea.

Danger Kane 2009-02-01 05:39:56 PM
Subby sure will feel dumb when someone shoots up his gun-free church.

Best comment in the thread.

I'm sure the people in the church are just as open-minded about other "choices" that people might make in their lives.

I am certain that you can demonstrate that states that do not prohibit the carrying of concealed deadly weapons in houses of worship have experienced undesirable consequences as a result of such a lack of prohibition. Please do so.

Good, maybe the Arkansas folks can find and shoot the holy spirit that told them to vote for bush TWICE. and then the burnouts voted for McSame!!

WTF???

how many times must a southerner be cornholed before he figures it out????

queezyweezel: It's Arkansas. They already have turkey shoots every other weekend AT THE CHURCH!

That's right. It should be illegal NOT to have a gun in church.

StoneColdAtheist 2009-02-01 05:45:05 PM
If your gun is packing silver bullets will that protect you from The Beast?

/I think I saw that in a movie with Keeno...Keyknow...that guy from The Matrix.

djpavon 2009-02-01 05:46:06 PM
Hmm, I didn't even know that it was illegal to bring a gun to church. Just always assumed they were treated the same as any other private organization. In fact we've had guns at church - when I was a kid my cousin would bring a BB gun (and later a 22) to church, and after service was over we would go should tin cans out back while our parents were in meetings (they were on the church board). We never brought it into service (we should be paying attention, not messing around with toys), but we would bring it into the church afterwords to clean and oil it.

Either that or learn to play the fiddle.

Lee Bruns 2009-02-01 05:49:48 PM
'Bad people' who go on shooting rampages at churches do not honor laws nor rules. 'Good people' are not a risk. Allowing the 'good people' to defend themselves from the 'bad people' is reasonable.

//Is that simple enough for you, Subby?

randomstranger 2009-02-01 05:50:05 PM
Either some Church goers get killed or some gun nuts are going to shoot each other, but either way I'm okay with it.

This will certainly add to the authenticity of the shotgun wedding.
