Good on her! It pisses me off when townships try to force their Puritanical morality on everyone else.

There's a sex shop in town that has been in and out of court for about 3 years now. He's been open for at least 5 years and then 3 years ago, the township built a huge kindergarten across the street from him (All kindergartners throughout the township get bused to this one location). Then they passed a law saying that no "sexually oriented businesses" were allowed within a mile of any public school and made it effective retroactively.

He's been able to stave them off so far. Sadly, the beauty salon who had their girls cutting hair in lingerie couldn't keep up the fight. They closed a year ago.

/I'm amazed at some of the tricks pole-dancers can pull off. I'd argue it's highly acrobatic.

What's with WEIRD tag, submittard?

The woman opened up a legitimate business and ended up being harassed by the local authority (probably after a lot of pressure by some "think of the children!" folk). It's only fair that she receives some kind of compensation for that. $75,000 doesn't sound that farfetched.

The article states that she gave lessons fully clothed. May I ask what in fark's name is wrong with that? Sounds like she was just bringing people together. A humanitarian, if you ask me.

I don't get the correction. Are you saying Babines is trying to force her morality on people because she's trying to run a legitimate business? Or that I am because I fully support her & the guy running the sex shop in my town? Unless they're actively grabbing people off the street & dragging them into their establishments, they're hardly forcing anything.

/If you don't approve of that type of business, don't go there.
//Quit ruining it for the rest of us.

While fully in favor of the idea, I can't imagine this place staying open very long. First, how many people will actually pay for this, and secondly, the fad already seems to be dying.

Save your venom. I support the shop owner and ACLU here.

That she was in the right on principle (as noted by the ACLU) is incidental to the argument I was making on your indignation, which was misplaced. Right or wrong, the community has just as much right to their opinion as she does to open a legitimate business - but that doesn't change the fact that she is, in her own turn, forcing her morality on a community that (via their representatives) didn't want it.

/Although a little pole dancing might well loosen up those sphincters.

I know a lot of people that take stripping/pole dancing lessons. I wouldn't even call this remotely immoral. Good for her.

/Some of my friends can hang upside down on those poles.
//Giggity.

Can we spend some time discussing the phrase "power lap dancing?" 'Cause that one is making my thinky place hurt a little.

They should have not given her a license for having a studio revolving around flash-in-the-pan exercise trend that would have been obliterated once Hollywood churned out another one.

I went to a party last night. It had beer and a pole to dance with.

Some girl living in the house chipped her tooth on the pole while dancing and I got to dance on the pole.

WTF. How does right to their opinion translate to trying to close down the business?

WTF. How did you get forcing her morality on a community? Is opening a church forcing one's religion on a community? Is opening a republican grassroots office forcing one's political views on a community?

Just admit you aren't very good at making arguments and move on.

I filmed a training video in a pole-dancing studio this weekend, so I don't know why I'm here instead of there right now.

She deserves a hero tag. Even if I bought the idea that the business is sexually oriented despite a total lack of nudity or sex what business is it of the city what kind of store she opens?

//does the article say if she finishes the class fully clothed?
