fleeing the seen

What the sh*t?

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 08:26:34 AM
Police say a cab driver who tried to take a purse from a woman fare beater was beaten by a group of good Samaritans who thought they were seeing a robbery.

Maybe they were seeing a robbery. If he was grabbing the purse to take it, he was robbing the woman. If he was grabbing the purse to stop the woman attached to the purse, he might have been within his rights. Or not. I don't know New York law on the subject.

"The women were later picked up by police as they exited the Staten Island Ferry and issued summonses for fare beating."

shouldn't that be unfair beating?

Lumber Jack Off 2009-02-01 09:04:49 AM
so you're telling me that a cab driving who takes the longest route possible to your destination isn't a thief (in some form or another)?

The whole article is full of fails, it's appalling. "Fleeing the seen" is my favorite.

Who cares? Far more enjoyable to imagine they're all members of the Internet Toughguy Club and regular gun thread posters.

wasn't this an episode of csi?

then again with 3 shows and god knows how many episodes chances are this post was on an episode of csi.

As soon as he reached for her purse he became a thief. There's due process involved, we don't just grab someone's belongings who owe us something. He got what he deserved.

I hope these "good Samaritans" didn't ruffle his turban - or the ACLU would be biatching 'his' civil rights being trampled on....

Vigil-ante. Literaly 'before looking'.

Someone who acts without finding out the facts.

Since it's been corrected, I'm curious what you thought was intentionally funny about "seen." Or did you just fail hard?

I hate cabbies. I've had them try to screw me over in several cities and countries.

"Police say it happened Saturday morning near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal when four woman, who had been club-going, got into a fight with the cab driver over the fare."

No, ante vigil is before looking in Latin. Vigilante is Spanish for watchman. Word placement and context matter. So does spelling, literally

Faux intellectual dipped in fail.

You're an idiot or trolling. Can't decide which is worse.

I'm almost thinking the former since you've been around so long. Sad.

Saturday morning... four men in a car...something tells me these vigilantes were just dumbasses looking for a fight, yet too scared to go to Harlem

/Btw, has the tone on Fark become rather harsh lately?

It was an episode of CSI NY where the dorky detective gets all tough and Gary Sinese acts cool, calm and collected.

I find that idea doubtful. They actually manned-up and hit someone.

You're arguing in favor of following due process, and at the same time calling a beating justified? Wow.

Only because they were bold due to numbers.

When they gather in a pack, they can be dangerous. Silly, but dangerous.

Issued a summons? I'd have them drug back across the Hudson and incarcerated until court on Monday. In the same cell with a 350 pound tranny with a twelve inch wick.

Um, I'm pretty sure it's not an Internet tough guy thing if you actually do take action in the real world.

So was she; taking a cab ride without paying is theft. So you're saying the tough guys should have come back and beaten up her too?

Like I said before, when there's a pack, they'll get bold. See above.

Even though the woman was a theif, what the cabbie did was still illegal. It's the very first thing you learn in business.

He may have been an honest dumbass, but that's a little like winning the special olympics.

studebaker hoch 2009-02-02 11:34:58 AM
That's the problem when you look at a situation and, using only your keen instincts, jump to conclusions.

This is real life, not television. You are mislead by what you see most of the time.
