I'll be pissed if Oprah gives her one penny. You don't reward this type of irresponsibility.

It's pretty obvious that the taxpayers will be supporting her kids for the next 18 years. She already bankrupted her parents.

It is pretty f'd up she was using fertility drugs when she had six children already.

She should have been getting her uterus ripped out instead.

I think public opinion is turning against this one so badly she won't get what she wants.

I think it's good that the media isn't giving this the usual "OMG 8 BABIES HOW CUTE!!!!!" treatment these stories get. A multiple birth like this is a medical disaster. It's irresponsible on the part of the doctor to implant 8 eggs, and it's irresponsible for the mother to carry all 8 to term. This isn't a feel good story at all. A crazy chick who already had 6 kids has 8 more, and probably most of those are going to have extremely serious developmental problems.

jake_lex: I think it's good that the media isn't giving this the usual "OMG 8 BABIES HOW CUTE!!!!!" treatment these stories get

Those are limited to times of prosperity. Most people these days are thinking about what a huge added expense eight children would be.

Plus it sounds like these kids are something other than cherubic and blond which (sad to say) probably diminishes the appeal

SpaceyCat [TotalFark] 2009-02-01 01:22:24 AM
So we had the "obsession with having babies" explanation.
Now we have the "gimme money for my story!" explanation.
What will be tomorrow's explanation?

All of it comes down to one thing: Crazy.

At least the Druggars are having all of their kids naturally and are doing a fairly good job of supporting themselves and caring for their kids within their family.

This woman is just insane.

Trainwrecks-in-progress are great snarkbait.

Snarkbait = pageviews & clicks.

Pageviews & clicks = beer for Drew.

Beer for Drew = moar FARK.

Moar FARK = moar trainwrecks-in-progress.

And thus the circle of internets are complete in the America, and uh, everywhere like such as, and I believe that it should help Drew, so he would be able to build up our future internets, for our children.

This woman believes that lots of children makes you a childcare expert?! An expert would probably say something like having that many children seriously hinders the emotional development of your kids. You can't give 14 children and only 2 parents the proper attention a child would need. Someone is going to be left out.

hovsm 2009-02-01 05:25:04 AM
I meant 1 parent not 2 how silly of me, she could definitely pull that one off.

Now that's some proper grandparental responsibility. All my dad does is turn up once a fortnight to take the kids out for an hour, two tops.

Ahhh...here it is. When the mother was staying out of sight at first I was almost fooled into thinking she might have some modesty (ie. not a money-grubbing attention whore).

Really she was just holding out for a big payoff. 14 kids "living off education grants and parental money"? Pathetic. Responsible people don't count on "media interviews and commercial sponsorship" to be able to afford raising their spawn.

Childcare expert? The whole thing was the work of (irresponsible) fertility specialists, she didn't do anything but take this crazy thing to term and then try to cash in on it.

Yep. In a way, every California taxpayer is the father because they're going to be stuck paying the child support.

The thing is with it being so many kids and preemies at that...unfortunately cradle to grave might not be very long...

Oznog 2009-02-01 05:49:34 AM
I've been reading up fast on this. What's apparent is the known reports are scattered and no one news article has it all. Most of the info comes from her mother who now realizes she's been an enabler for her brand of crazy and is now done with her, and is not pulling any punches. Her mom's not even sure on everything either, because she knows she may have been lied to. Note the preface "this is what she TOLD me" on everything.

Lemme tell you the way I think any sort of interview thing would go.

Woman has set up some ENORMOUS barriers between herself and the real world here. Decided to grow her own world with a shiatton of frankenbabies and listening to no one but her inner voice.

So, first question's gonna be (how could it NOT be) WHY.
And she's gonna suddenly realize she has no motivational, upbeat message on the tip of her tongue and how pathetic what she could say would sound. And there's no way she's gonna talk about her battle with this mental illness, she's not there yet.

So she'll avoid or get defensive and angry and throw a tantrum on the set and just walks off. The host can't simply accept a dodge and move on to "oh that must be difficult changing all those diapers". The viewers would not accept that from the host.

So, question will be repeated or restated until she... gets defensive and angry and throws a tantrum on the set and just walks off.

Basically she sounds un-interviewable unless the interviewer agrees to limit it to extremely pandering, softball, ludicrous questions provided and approved in advance.

She's already high in the running for Most Hated Woman In History, not a media darling.

I recall a lot of people upset with the media circus over septuplet/octuplet births because it's actually a really seriously bad thing medically and family-wise and they're saying "is making it like hitting a multimillion-dollar jackpot going to encourage people to do this??" Because you have 2 kids nobody gives you squat. You have 6/7/8 at once suddenly companies sponsor you and the talk shows give you more money in 4 weeks of runs than you made in the last 5-10 years. Then somebody gives you a freakin mansion.

Well, maybe this IS the sum-of-all-fears.

Getting 8 fertilized eggs to take seems a little more involved than cramming a stapler up her cooch.

In a weird way...kudos to the sick fark of a doctor. Those 8 implants almost made it to full term.

Im gonna throw my tv into a coolee if oprah gives her any money, then move to some backwoods hellhole in appalachia, stock up on guns and pray for rain.

My mother is a psychologist and she attributed this to something known as "life by proxy" syndrome. The gist is that some women and men seem to feel so little self respect, they have to live out their lives through their children.

Of course, even though arguing with a PhD is a bad idea, I had to call shenanigans because I think she's just a money grubbing snotrag who is nutty as a fruitcake. She's got more crazy than Hendrix on new years eve.
