I don't know why they haven't issued a picture of the guy. Seems kind of dumb in that respect. Evidently, he left her there (Mexico), and ran off.

I'm guessing they mean that mom never met him, not that she thought he was a kid by how he looks.

From reading TFA, I got the sense that mom had never met the boyfriend. She probably assumed her daughter was sneaking out to meet a classmate and was surprised when she found out he was much older.

So this is probably not a case of mom mistaking a 23 year old for an 11 year old. Oh, don't get me wrong, though...still mother of the year.

i dunno, i'd have thought so, but my 7 year old told me the other day that she'd broken up with her boyfriend because he was cheating on her. i declined to ask for details. somehow hearing it all with her little girl lisp would have just broken my brain.

my first thought was "stereotype!" but then I recall a friend of mine who grew up in Mexico City saying most of the available girls in his high school class were dating guys well into their 20s, which produced lots of, um, frustration. Apparently there is something to this in Hispanic culture.

Damn...23 y/o with an 11 y/o is kind of sick. I remember when I was growing up there was a girl I was three years older than, but she was one of those girls who matured physically very quickly. By the time she was 12, she had a build like Kim Kardashian, I kid you not.

To say that she was not generating a lot of interest by the time she was 13 would be an understatement. I was always friends with her, but never really got involved with her beyond a little summer kissing. While she was built like the proverbial brick house, I still didn't like that she was three years younger than me. I told her we had to stop, and then a couple weeks later I started dating a friend of hers who was 18 months younger than me. Apparently, she was not happy, and they actually had a bit of the proverbial cat fight over me. (only time girls ever fought over me, kinda cool).

Things went downhill for her after that. I was the only nice guy she ever had in her life.

Needless to say, she had the physical build of an adult at a young age, but not the mental development. It was kind of sad to watch. She started dating a string of older guys. I am pretty sure the first one was in his early twenties. A guy who fashioned himself as a wanna be rock star. I so wanted to kick his ass when my girlfriend told me that this girl thought she was pregnant at 14. She wasn't.

She was pregnant by 15. Gave the baby for adoption, and continued to have drug and alcohol abuse problems.

It was really sad to watch. I ran into her at a mall when she was around 30 years old. I saw this 250 pound behemoth that was a burnt out shell of this beautiful teenage girl I once knew.

Moral: Don't be in such a hurry to grow up. It will happen so quick without you pushing it.
