She sounds like she's having an epileptic fit.

Seth'n'Spectrum 2009-01-31 07:13:59 PM
Yes, definitely best, probably because I haven't seen an acoustic cover of that song in years.

Nah, all snark aside, that was pretty good.

NiveK- 2009-01-31 07:14:35 PM
wtf is wrong with their guitarists' hair?

Bunch of dirty hippies doing a pretty decent cover of a damn good song.

What a damn shame that Brad died. I would have loved to have seen what he could be doing now. What a tragic waste.

I have seen many terrible versions of that song. That, however, was pretty good.

I am not trying to be a wentz here, but can somebody explain what is so fan-farking-tastic about Sublime? I didn't get it before Nowell died, don't get it now.

Again, not trying to troll, just looking for some clarity....

You have your answer. Sublime is an incarnation of the Steve Miller Band.

I've never gotten into the typical Fark "your band sucks" discussions but Sublime really did/does suck. Just awful.

They played lounge music while singing naughty words and stuff. That makes you hardcore.

In my experience, people listening to Sublime seem to think, "OMG! This music is about marijuana! I like marijuana too, I'm such a badass!" It's like how I thought Marilyn Manson and Eminem were absolute geniuses when I was fifteen.

/Probably am trying to troll.

If you don't know... then no one could tell you. Stick to Jessica Simpson or Cold Play, leave Sublime to the folks who get it.

Some people like their unique fusion of reggae, ska, punk, and hip-hop. They sound good, why else would someone like any band?

Bleh. A roomful of art school posers. When the dead guy sang it, I believed it.

Sublime is great. If you disagree, then that's your opinion.

(I probably like whatever you think is so much better, so don't try that one on me.)

Sublime sucked - accept it.

There's nothing to "get" about Sublime. It's a white guy tapping into reggae and hip hop posturing. It's the nadir of date rape frat boy music.

don't smoke the weed. But i love me some Sublime. They make me quite happy.

Saying their only reggae, or this or that...they had metal/punk/hardcore/hip hop/rock/whatever else all rolled into one big doobie and they rocked it.

Will always be a sublime fan.

Wow, I really need to stop looking at music threads. They always devolve into pissing contests over who has the best taste in music.

I agree with killer cars.. its mellow music to chill to ... similar bands would be Slightly stoopid [cover ub40 and make it better (new window) and so on ...
there is nothing to get ...

I wanted to hate it, since she has that annoying Ani DiFranco influenced dirty white girl lilt to her voice, but it wasn't terrible.

As for Sublime, they were a fun band. Saw them in concert a long long time ago and it was good times.

Also, the guitarist looks like Glenn Close.

Thats what it ended up being, originally it was hip until they got started listening to it.

Their albums were good.

Since I cannot sing well, I feel that I can be a good judge of singers: I never cared for the female goat singers (South Park had it right).

Funny, I expected this to morph more into a "hot or not" discussion, rather than a Sublime hate/love-fest. Surprising the directions things take on Fark, though I should know better by now.

\enjoyed Sublime, still a good listen

Never really thought of using that as a measuring stick for musical tastes, but I never understood why people thought Sublime was so good. Santeria just annoyed the shiat out of me whenever I heard it.

As someone who both defines myself by what I hate and is blessed with a narcissism believing that people even care what I think about the music they like, I am getting a kick out of this thread.

I think that, whether you like Sublime or not, boiling down all of music to one Go/No-Go question makes one seem supremely unqualified to judge anyone's music taste, and calls into question your own. I do like the addition of the racial pejorative to the end of it... do you have similar determinations of signature music of n*ggers, kikes, gooks, zipperheads, or towel-heads?

The majority of the hate in this thread for Sublime belongs squarely to its adoptive fans. They certainly weren't gunning for "frat-boy douches" when they got together and wrote! Sarah Palin loves Heart, does that make Heart a pro-life/pro-war activist group? No.
