Duh. Colbert still owns the definite description of White House reporters though.

Former Bush White House press secretary. And I think he misundermates the importance of the daily briefings.

There. That's better.

submitter: Former White House Press Secretary for George W. Bush says the White House Press Briefing is obsolete and a venue for misinformation

FTFY.

/It's trollerific!!

And this is not surprising on several counts.

McLellan is a desperate attention whore trying to pimp his book, still.

He is also desperate to regain his lost soul after years of straight-out lying to the press and the American people, to deliberately hide the truth behind a corrupt and incompetent administration.

And his briefings were just a venue for misinformation, because he never actually said anything important, barely said anything true, and never answered any important questions.

Did I mention Scott McLellan is an admitted professional liar, and a whiny sack of crap to boot? (no, really, if you see him, please do put your put in his arse)

If the Obama administration does it properly, then maybe he will realise that they are very important venue for information and even dialogue.

Cha ching. It's a living. Maybe someday he'll be held in scholarly regard and lecture other spokesliars. Or maybe he'll get a cushy job as spokesliar for some big Chinese conglomerate killing our pets with toxic dogfood. Good to have a dream.

I disagree. I've been reading some of the press briefings on www.whitehouse.gov for the past few days and have learned a lot.

/Gibbs has a decent sense of humor
//I'm definitely not seeing the press using kid gloves. They really hammer him some days.

Well, the way YOU did it, Scott.... yeah.

Republicans run on a "government farks up everything it touches" platform, and when elected, do everything they can to validate that position. Crazy.

This brings up so many important -- nay CRUCIAL -- questions that need to be asked of Scott McLellan.

Most importantly....where does he buy those beautiful neckties?

That's cool, it looks like they're putting full transcripts from each daily briefing on there, Q&A and all. I like it.

How ironic, considering the fact that he (Scott McClellan) is also obsolete and a venue for misinformation.

/thus the pathetic book and interviews..

Commentators go on TV to push talking points that they coordinate ahead of time? And this includes James Carville of all people?

I'm floored.

TFA: His piece today is about a morning conference call among four Democratic operatives that has been going on most workdays for 17 years now, since the end of the Clinton campaign and the start of the Clinton administration that brought them all together.

They are George Stephanopoulos, James Carville, Rahm Emanuel and Paul Begala.

Which is the point of the article. You don't need a talking head standing in front of the cameras to disseminate information, just send it out in an email for people to read. If you must have a live briefing, have someone who can answer reporters' questions participate.

Baghdad Bob FTW!!1!

I watched Gibbs the other day. I was doing some other stuff so I couldn't concentrate on the press conference but he kind of gave me this McClellan vibe. Not sure if it's warranted or not.

I'm not sure what these people expect press briefings to be.
Its the talking points of an administration strait from the administrations mouth. It is NOT where they are going to hold a come to Jesus meeting or spill the dark secrets of their cabal.

These are a waste of time and, in this age of nitpicking everything a president does, they are also a mandatory waste of time for both the press and the president.
...Unless they actually want to be called out for having a double standard?

Key difference between the Bush administration and the Obama administration:

Bush (or his handlers, whomever you prefer) used the Press Briefing as a way to spread misinformation, bully their opponents, and obfuscate their failures.

Obama's administration appears, thus far, to be using the Press Briefing to clearly inform the public about what they are doing.

I guess you Farkers are new to the world of politics. Scott McClellan, while being a huge tool, is completely right. Every Press Secretary is there to dodge questions and lie because the job of the press is to ask questions that they know will never be answered. It has been like this since Truman, and Obama will be no different.

They're all pretty different. One of them is in the White House, one of them is half lizard, one of them sounds like a Jewish donut, and one of them can only be seen by Big Bird.

The briefing is a total waste.

It's just the Press Secretary's daily exercise in obfuscation: circular answers, tautologies, re-framing, spin and straight-up dodging.

It's pointless.

They could improve the briefing a lot, in my opinion, by banning all cameras and all broadcast-quality audio tape recording. Make it about information, and not about grandstanding.
