So? I'd be doing the same damn thing if I had the same copious amounts of money and spare time he does.

I must have missed the memo where we're all supposed to hate Steve Martin now. I still like him.

I don't go see his movies, but then, I don't go see anybody's movies.

Steve Martin is awesome. Love the Banjo playing! Keep it up Steve!

It's amazing that a man born a poor black boy in Mississippi could be my hero.

Yes, he IS one hell of a banjo player.

Truth. He's not playing a trischka on you.

Some years ago, Steve Martin won a Grammy for his instrumental playing of the banjo. Early 90s, maybe.... Not sure when.

That was pretty cool. I admit to knowing nothing about banjo, but Martin fit in really well there.

I'll add that Paul Shaffer is one hell of a musician. There's so much more to him than off-camera laughter and crazy sunglasses.

Silly? Really??? Would subby like to 'splain that tag?

Awesome clip of Foggy Mountain Breakdown. Real musicians playing real instruments is a welcome change from what you usually see/hear. It seemed to me that at the end of the clip Steve was pretty much in awe of everyone he was picking with, especially Earl Scruggs.

I'm with cryinoutloud -- I didn't get the "now we hate Steve Martin" memo. Would have deleted it if I had.

Martin is just a bitter old man now and completely unfunny.

I can't believe anyone watches those Pink Panther movies.

Yeah, he's an Olympian God too!

That said. yeah, Martin is a hell of a banjo picker. Plays five string like a house-a-fire. And recording with Earl has to be a career highlight, for a bluegrass picker.

/played in a bluegrass band for a few years
//played rhythm on a Guild, but still..

Nosir. That title is still held by anything by Uwe Boll, and/or Marrying Man featuring a Baldwin, though I forget which.

What's the definition of perfect pitch?
That's when you throw a banjo into a dumpster and it doesn't hit any of the sides!

//loves me some Bela Fleck
///Steve's a hella picker.

I will definitely see Pink Panther 2 for the hot Aishwarya Rai action

radioman_ 2009-01-31 08:44:33 PM
Since they can't even kiss in Indian movies maybe Aishwarya Rai will fress Steve Martin in some fit of overcoming repression. I'd pay a dollar for that!

I don't think it's that so many of us HATE Steve Martin. We just remember what an amazing, hilarious, comic genius he once was, and it breaks our souls a little to see what he's done with his movie career.

It's more like losing a good friend than anything.

milowitz 2009-02-01 03:38:46 AM
He played one of his new songs on SNL tonight. He can play. Song was kinda meh.

Way too much singing (with a weak voice), not enough picking.

THIS!!

I've always loved Steve Martin's work but Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau is something that should have been left alone. Nobody can ever play that character again.

That being said, Martin is a hell of a Banjo player
