Pretty decent lineup. YYYs, Amanda Palmer, Fleet Foxes, No Age, My Bloody Valentine, TV on the Radio, etc.

If it wasn't in the middle of the desert I'd totally go.

Gunny Highway 2009-01-30 04:51:38 PM
I dont think I can justify spending the money to go see Mastodon, X, Patton, and Rollins.

Mastodon has a new album coming out in the Spring so I will check them out on that tour. If you are a fan they released one track on itunes.

jerkobson 2009-01-30 04:52:34 PM
This is probably the best coachella lineup ever.

irockalot 2009-01-30 04:57:35 PM
2nd day kinda sucks, but the other two would be great to go to.

Derwood 2009-01-30 04:59:11 PM
so much win

John_Rat_Safari 2009-01-30 05:02:45 PM
Thought Pavement were reforming for this one... oh well.

redface 2009-01-30 05:02:57 PM
My friend loves The Cure. LOVES The Cure. We have a joke that I owe her a bound-and-gagged Robert Smith as a birthday present. As for me, I think they are strictly A-Okay.

/Silversun Pickups.
//Do want.

Gunny Highway 2009-01-30 05:04:27 PM
Has anyone seen X recently? They are one of my favorite bands and Im just wondering if it is worth spending the money. I am weary of going to see bands after they reform.

runwhiteyrun06 2009-01-30 05:18:09 PM
I'm sad how low Leonard Cohen's billing is.

On the bright side, I assume we will get his North American tour dates soon.

DJanomaly 2009-01-30 05:36:51 PM
I'm *so* there on Friday!

Sir Paul, Franz Ferdinand, The Ting Tings and Felix da Housecat.

Yep.

kth [TotalFark] 2009-01-30 05:43:38 PM
Yay Gaslight Anthem.

/seeing them in the bar across the street later that month.

CZMisfitsFan 2009-01-30 05:46:24 PM
You could drop one day worth of bands there. It's starting to feel like just another festival, outside of MBV and Leonard Cohen. No really huge surprises this year.

/Maybe Morrissey will reform the Smiths for a couple songs. That would be good enough at this point.

Joed112784 2009-01-30 05:48:06 PM
I went two years ago to see Rage against the Machine and the Red hot chili peppers, among other bands. The camping experience nearly killed me. During the day at the concert you had to hide under shade all day, otherwise the sun would drain your every being. One night there were police helicopters above the campgrounds, all because of hippies that formed a massive drum circle and it somehow turned into a riot, I kid you not. It was all worth it in the end though.

QUEEN O FROD [TotalFark] 2009-01-30 05:52:31 PM
Going to Coachella is basically like going to hell. That being said, I'll probably go this year for Turbonegro and Superchunk.

sonicfluid 2009-01-30 06:23:13 PM
That's kinda funny that people are calling out the festival as a whole because there are a handful or artists they don't like. Do you get that there are multiple stages, and you can catch the acts you like, and skip those you don't? This lineup really does have something for everyone. Paul McCartney is a legend, The Cure and The Killers also have massive followings. If you look deeper there are great electronic acts such as The Crystal Method, Roni Size and MSTRKRFT. Indie is well represented on the bill. I probably won't go just because I'm not a big fan of travelling into the states right now, but the lineup might just be good enough to make me reconsider.

CarnySaur 2009-01-30 06:28:36 PM
I saw The Airborne Toxic Event a couple of months ago. I like their style.
(And maybe Paul McCartney will be doing his Fireman stuff. Would that make it cool enough for the kids?)

The Headless Horseman's Headless Horse [TotalFark] 2009-01-30 07:42:45 PM
Glasvegas and The Hold Steady!

Enough for me.

sonnyboy11 2009-01-30 08:17:48 PM
Great line up. Go eat a daick subby.

scoughlin 2009-01-30 08:20:52 PM
the Sasquatch festival's lineup will blow this away.

Gangway Fathead 2009-01-30 08:37:08 PM
Amy Winehouse gets a second to last billing?

She's a freakin' one hit wonder!

Walkens Syndrome 2009-01-30 09:55:37 PM

Billy Talent? I had sex many times to that CD. It grows on you.

SubBass49 2009-01-30 11:43:29 PM
this will be my tenth coachella festival.
my brother and i started @ the first one in 1999 and have made it our yearly pilgrimage.

/this year's lineup rocks
//they usually add acts as it gets closer

FeedTheCollapse 2009-01-31 12:07:56 AM
looks to be a good festival overall, but nothing really new. I'm more interested in that it's MBV's first US date in a few months. Hopefully more will be announced.

zunkus 2009-01-31 12:41:42 AM
Great lineup, unfortunately I won't be attending this year as I'm not allowed to leave the state without permission and I doubt my probation officer would give me permission to go to a 3 day orgy of drug use:(

deevo 2009-01-31 12:52:36 AM
Wow, Californians have told me over the past few years, that "the last good year of Coachella was back in '0x" depending on the person, but even through last year, I always said that if I were from LA, I would go.

This lineup is farking awful.

SubBass49 2009-01-31 01:18:12 AM
No year will EVER top 1999...when you look at that lineup it's farking EPIC. But, that said, if you can't enjoy yourself at Coachella, then you should just off yourself now and be done. Even when the lineup is at it's worst, it's still an amazing time.

Right. McCartney, My Bloody Valentine, The Killers, Bob Mould, Public Enemy, Mastodon. You are right, Spot on. I'll make sure and have a lousy time cause you said so, Mr. Future Californian. Awful stuff there. I'm sure you'll enjoy much better concerts in your area this year.

/eyeroll

the best thing to possibly come out of this would be sir paul bedding genesis p-orridge. lol.

thendontspeak 2009-01-31 03:02:03 AM
Lineup is luke warm at best. My hope now rests with Bonnaroo. Or Rothbury.. is that even going to happen this year?

/any of you festivals want to be sure and sell out even in these rough economic times? get daft punk damnit. no seriously, please?

Saw em recently, was kinda disapointed. Maybe it was just an off night, but they didn't seem to be trying too hard.

clkelley5v1 2009-01-31 11:14:26 AM
Hopefully this means L Cohen will be touring America in between his Beacon show and this date.

What are the chances BJM can keep it together until this date?

Snoozefest ? The question must be asked: are you hearing impaired or are you a Kenny G fan?

Isn't that the same thing?

Headliners are weak, but overall looks to be a decent lineup to me.

I have tried, but I just can't get into The Killers.

doschi 2009-01-31 03:00:46 PM
Check out Cage the Elephant.

Nice guys, good band, and MAAAAAAAN do they like to farking party.

This lineup is mostly awful for the price you pay and the time you spend in the sun and what little amount of intimacy and time you get out of the actually good artists as you would in their shows elsewhere.

I've already seen MBV (amazing) and Mastodon, I've heard mostly bad things about Bob Mould live, I've heard only bad things about Public Enemy live in recent years, and seriously, why would I want to see the headliners, McCartney or The Killers?

I've already done the Girl Talk thing in venue and at a festival, it's not that fun anymore. Two thieves for whom I would never use the term "musician", Steve Aoki and Crystal Castles on the same day? Sign me up!

There are also a number great artists who I can't imagine coming across well in this setting (I've seen Vivian Girls do both large and small, and this was a relatively tiny outdoor concert compared to Coachella, and they sucked there.)

BornfromPain 2009-01-31 08:23:35 PM
This is truly a horrible lineup. It has been getting worse each and every year.

/agree with above 1999 was a truly awesome year+

Caught X in Atlanta a couple years ago, they still rock! Billy Zoom is the man, John Doe is amazing, Exene is...kinda scary looking, but she's still got great pipes!
I wonder if X will be touring again after Coachella. (please please!)

Oh, and BJM is gonna be in Atlanta, I think the very next day (?!?)

Baumer 2009-02-01 05:14:42 AM
Bonnaroo announces their lineup on Tuesday. I hope it's better than last year, seeing as I've already purchased a ticket.

/last year was good, but kanye? really?

skirandour 2009-02-02 02:27:35 PM
HORRIBLE LINEUP!!!!!

This festival is on my birthday this year, and I'll be one of MANY not attending. 269 to see some old fark from the most overrated band EVER (beatles...yes I said it, they farking suck) and with that blimp Robert Smith sweating makeup hunched over on Sunday is no fun.

LAST year the Sahrah tent destroyed...this year, I doubt they'll have half of the attendance last year pulled, and even that lineup was weak before Prince was added.

DISAPPOINTED BIG TIME...sorry Coachella, I'll be at Pemberton this year.
