They are apparently wanting to lose a few more House and Senate seats in 2010.

fosborb 2009-01-30 09:34:28 AM
Man, Senate Republicans sounded like petulant children on News Hour last night.

"If this doesn't turn around our economy in six months or so, we will be in the position to say 'we didn't have any input in it.'"

Politically, that position only makes sense if you're expecting the economy to further crumble. Way to boost confidence in the market place, used-to-be-half of our Federal leadership.

It is TREASON that they aren't supporting our commander-in-chief during this time of war!

They're a broken party. They've been so inclusive of fringe elements to battle the Democratic populist appeal that they're now fighting an interal war between the fiscal conservatives social do whatever the fark you wants and the jesus freaks. Until one side wins, they're going to have to rely on cheap digs to try and stay relevant.

The difference between Democrats in '00 and Republicans right now is that we never wanted Bush to fail. We just didn't think he was rightfully elected.

It's actually a VERY effective political strategy for gaining the support of the uneducated.

In 2010 and 2012, the Republican party will be able to invoke any legislation created in the previous years which they deem as bad and show that it was voted into power by the evil Democrats with little or no GOP support.

At the same time, they're killing Democratic authored legislation which doesn't have 100% support by the Democratic party.

Republicans in 2010: SEE, SEE, WE DIDN'T VOTE FOR IT!!!

I have to agree. Nothing the Democratics are likely do will turn the economy around or even slow its collapse for at least the next 2 years. The best Obama can hope for is to show modest signs of recovery in about 3 years. If not, the GOP will have a strong case even thought they probably would have done much worse and driven the economy completely into the ground.

I gotta admit, I wish that at some point during Bush's presidency the Democrats had figured out how to say "no" even if it was unpopular at the time.

The Republicans are the opposition party, they are doing the right thing here.

And yeah, it's hypocritical given the absolute shiatfit they threw if everyone didn't jump into position behind Bush, but this is the way it is SUPPOSED to work.

Problem being that they already hold a near monopoly on this voting block.

Well, the mouthpieces for the Republican base (Limbaugh and Hannity) have said that they want Obama to fail. For Obama to fail, our nation is going to have to fail.

So, their position is probably one born out of a wish for our nation to fail so they can say they were right.

Tastes Like Chicken: The Republicans are the opposition party, they are doing the right thing here.

They're supposed to oppose the ideas they're actually against, not just voting contrarian for the sake of it.

So now they're on record opposing equal pay for women. I wish them the best of luck winning any seats in 2010.

I would disagree just because of the tactic that I have seen being crafted to punish the House republicans for voting against the stimulus plan. The Democrats are putting together a map of how many jobs were lost in this recession so far by congressional district. They are then planning on running ads in Republican congressional districts saying "Rep. *insert name here* voted against saving X,000 jobs. He decided that giving a tax cut to rich people who aren't hurting from the recession was more important than supporting the people who are actually suffering in this economy."

Yeah, its intellectually dishonest, but it is going to create a powerful message that will anger constituents in those districts against their Republican representatives.

Senescent Dawn 2009-01-30 09:57:35 AM
They've gone from a party of overt corruption, fiscal insanity, and government oppression to a party of knee-jerk contrarianism and opportunists. Fark them. I'm never going back. Not until they expunge 75% of their members and stop bald-facedly appealing to ignorance.

CaptMacMillian 2009-01-30 09:58:12 AM
What's sad is that Obama was already a better president than the last 2 Republican presidents simply by being sworn in.

They've been reduced to a regional obstructionist party. After all the biatching about a do-nothing congress. They've exposed themselves as wishing for the nation to fall into complete economic collapse simply to justify their existence.

Republican governors are already spending this money. They know who butters their bread. Obama is going to split the GOP. He's already shown them to be so weak that they have to show fealty to talking heads that have never run for office.

Well, there was this assumption that the Republicans actually cared about America, which was a silly assumption.

Heheh. I posted this once already, but what the hell...

Ahhh, the GOP - the "Hackinbush" party!

I don't know what they have to say,
It makes no difference anyway,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
No matter what it is or who commenced it,
I'm against it.

Your proposition may be good,
But let's have one thing understood,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
And even when you've changed it or condensed it,
I'm against it.

I'm opposed to it,
On general principle, I'm opposed to it.

He's opposed to it.
In fact, indeed, that he's opposed to it!

For months before my son was born,
I used to yell from night to morn,
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
And I've kept yelling since I first commenced it,
I'm against it!

Demonize the unelected talkshow hosts, claim Lincoln would've been a moderate instead of the unabashed racist he would be considered today, and reiterate that Bush "had national unity" after 9/11. The only unity Bush had was that he had balls, and the libs knew it. They were glad they didn't have one of their own in the White House because they knew none of their own had any.
