I may not be the person to ask, as I am a nerdy sumbiatch, but I friggin love Rush. I've been listening to them for over 20 years, and they keep putting out good music consistently, and selling out every single one of their arena shows. Why aren't they in the hall of fame, seriously?

Rush needs to 'grease the wheels', willydwonka. Worked for Madonna.

Because if you choose not to vote for a shiatty-ass band, you still have made a choice.

It's not the Rock and Roll Hall of Pretentious Screeching, Geddy.

I have no idea. I agree 100% with what you said (only I haven't been listening to them for nearly as long). Then again, I too am a nerd.

Even if you hate his voice, I think that being fourth only to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith for the most platinum and gold albums in a row alone should get them in.

So I've heard. Bucking the system might seem really cool to fans, but ...

Perhaps they should appeal to a broader spectrum than just the tone-deaf.

Our family dog really enjoys the supersonic overtones of Geddy's voice.

I don't even really like Rush and I've got to agree that they belong in the hall of fame. But then again, the hall is pretty lame most of the time with their inductions

Flea. John Entwistle. John Paul Jones. John McVie was pretty good.

Buncha the usual asshat Rush haters in here I see. No matter. Rush belong in the Hall of Fame, even if I personally feel a rock n roll Hall of Fame is a crap concept. I am not even that huge of a fan of the band.

milowitz 2009-01-30 03:19:40 AM
Peart. Sigh...it's Peart. RR HOF is farking retarded anyways.

John_Rat_Safari 2009-01-30 03:26:55 AM
Rush, again? Really?

Fark is boring when the same subjects (Winehouse, Kanye, Rush, Kiss, Wentz) repeat so often.

Sherjo311 2009-01-30 03:28:31 AM
moving pictures and 2112 were awesome. that is all.

NapalmTrancebath 2009-01-30 03:31:51 AM
I thought Peart was nominated for a Grammy for his Rio performance?

Anyway, Jann Wenner hates Rush, so that's why they ain't in the RNRHOF

hellbilly 2009-01-30 03:34:52 AM
Every guitar player I grew up with learned Spirit of Radio, but Alex still gets no love. The band has three guys on the right side of the bell curve (it's not just the rhythm section). But Mike Watt is the greatest bass player.

Valdes 2009-01-30 03:41:53 AM
They don't belong in the RARHOF for the simple reason that they are Canadian, and no one in Canada knows how to sing.

JerkyMeat 2009-01-30 04:39:01 AM
Any common person who can truly understand and embrace greatness in creativity, knows that a grammy is bullshiat. Someone should sit down with Geddy and explain this fact. Someone giving him an ounce of killer weed is more honorable than a grammy award.

Gulper Eel [TotalFark] 2009-01-30 06:50:19 AM
We need the all-dork Hall induction year. Just induct Rush, Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson all at once to see if Jann Wenner's head will asplode.

Peart/Collins/Thompson/Bruford drum quartet FTW!

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2009-01-30 07:42:08 AM
yeah they inducted Run DMC but snub Rush.

fark the hof and grammy judges.

Sun God: I'm not a big huge Rush fan, but that Pert guy is a hell of a good percussionist.

That I'll agree with.

I'd prolly like Rush if it wasn't for Geddy Lee's vocals. To me his voice sounds like fingernails across a chalkboard.

One of these things is not like the other.

/McVie is an exquisitely tasteful bassist very melodic.
//technically average though I like his work.

Speaking of tasteful and melodic bassists, I like Mike Mills of REM.

If ever the Hall of Fame is asked to give a reason, I hope they say "you were inspired by Ayn Rand, who is the polar opposite of rock n' roll. You lose. Good day, sirs."

bv2112 2009-01-30 08:54:24 AM
I love Rush, and I don't consider myself to be too much of a nerd (but I am). It always cracks me up in their concerts when thousands of guys who had a shiatty time in highschool start chanting "Subdivisions" like it was their anthem.

/be cool or be cast out

CommandHerTaco 2009-01-30 09:06:08 AM
AgentOrangeDrink: "you were inspired by Ayn Rand, who is the polar opposite of rock n' roll. You lose.

You're absolutely correct. Only certain narrowly prescribed political and philosophical viewpoints should be allowed within rock n' roll.

Also, music is all about the lyrics and singing. The reason Rush's instrumentals which have been nominated have never won a grammy is because Geddy Lee's voice and Neil Peart's lyrics both suck.

Maybe if Rush hadn't chosen a shrill, she-beast like Ayn Rand as their philosophical guide, they would get more love.

/Agree they should be in the HOF

Personally, I blame the salesmen.

The Salesmen.

THE SALESMEN!

I'm not a huge fan of Rush, but they do belong in the R&R Hall of Fame.

benjamen13 2009-01-30 09:47:32 AM
I personally would rather listen to Yoko Ono rolling around in a trash bag howling like a rabid dog then listen anything ever recorded by Rush.

Fearofablankplanet 2009-01-30 09:59:52 AM
Yep, being inspired by good books is bad. They shouldn't be in the RNR hall of fame, they aren't rock. I don't want them in the same building as Madonna or Run DMC.

I say we get together and fund a Prog rock Hall of fame and then induct Madonna.

BuckTurgidson 2009-01-30 10:00:09 AM
I am a nerd and always have been, and I can't stand Rush.

dogdaze [TotalFark] 2009-01-30 10:31:28 AM
If Madonna, The Bee Gees, Little Richard, Dion, The Doors, and the Jackson Five belong to the R&R Hall of Fame, so does Rush.

carmody 2009-01-30 10:47:51 AM
I'll never understand how people can disrespect Rush in a world where people take TOOL seriously.

Rush totally farking kicks ass.

John Entwistle is why I picked up the bass. Played it for 8 years. Geddy Lee is why I put it down. I knew I could NEVER do what he does.

Kazaa 2009-01-30 12:09:42 PM
The RnRHOF has a thing against prog-rock. Rush, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson - none of them have gotten a nom.

However, I give the HOF full credit for refusing to induct KISS.

Uzzah 2009-01-30 12:15:25 PM
Oh good, Rush fans. Can anybody give me a quick synopsis of what the lyrics to "Tom Sawyer" are supposed to mean? Sure, I can understand "he knows changes aren't permanent, but change is." I'm looking for for an explanation of, well, all of the rest of it.

THE RIVER!

Because all music should be poppy dance music and not make you think? Fine, listen to Madonna and whatever's on pop radio. I like some of that too.

But wow...Rush has some of the best grooves out there. But they also make you think. I hear more soul in them than I do just about any "danceable" music.

Rush fan. Not really a nerd. Geddy is my favorite bassist.

/Lifeson gets no respect. He's awesome.
//Likes Geddy's voice. It's an aquired taste.
///Drive's my wife crazy listening to them all the time.
