He's "repulsed" when he thinks about doing a bunch of meth and slobbering on some man cock. Oh, how "repulsed" he is when he gets a full-on bone dog thinking about drugged out manbuttsex. Oh, it's so dark, Oprah! So dark I can't stand up for a few minutes now that we're talking about it!!!

Whamdangler 2009-01-29 03:26:39 PM
Man, he's spending a lot of time publicly talking about how, despite his sexual urges and past sexual liaisons with men, he's simply not a homosexual. I don't even know if he understands what the word means.

he's so deep in the closet, he has enough privacy to engage in elicit drug-fueled trysts with male prostitutes.

I hope so

The conflict in that guy's head must be unbearable. May he one day find the therapy he needs and with that peace, maybe try to show some real compassion to others.

He sounds like someone who believed all those frat-boy rationalizations of "it's not gay if...."

Listen, Rev Ted...Can I call you Teddy (the) bear,

I've been a straight guy all my life, and , How can I put this gently? Never once, in all that time, have I ever gotten a strange and tingly feeing anywhere in my body while thinking about another man. Not once. If feeling slike that are something you've got to "struggle" with? then I've got some bad news for ya....

It's kind of sad. If he's a truly faithful person, then he's probably done alot of praying to "relieve" him of this burden. When that relief doesn't come, it would be natural for him to think it's because he's not trying or willing enough. That can become a nasty spiral.

He's trying to prove something to himself by proving it to other people. That never works. I've been there.

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2009-01-29 04:58:53 PM
Haggard...took to the Oprah Winfrey show today to promote the documentary and discuss his life-long struggle with his attraction to men.

What? You mean to say you didn't sit down one day, weigh the pros and cons of hot man-on-man action and then make a deliberate choice to be gay?

Dude, you're gay...it's OK to be gay. Drop all the "friends" and "colleagues" who say you need to be "cured" and get on with your life.

baka-san [TotalFark] 2009-01-29 05:15:31 PM
I love how fundies think they have to be "restored" is they are gay.

I sometimes wish I could "restore" them back to sanity.

Or just shoot them.

Ted, you are a cock loving hypocrite.

Drop the hypocrite [part and we will get along just fine.

bobbette [TotalFark] 2009-01-29 05:15:49 PM
I'm torn. I feel sorry for Ted Haggard at moments, because nobody should have to go through a really ugly coming-out phase like this in public. However, then there's his whole anti-gay history and him going on tv and characterizing himself as a "heterosexual with homosexual attachments".

Ted, friend, heterosexuals don't have a long history of homosexual attachments. If you're a heterosexual, you're not going around falling for multiple guys and sexually harassing them while you're in a position of authority and regularly hiring male prostitutes. farking your wife at the same time as the male escorts doesn't make you hetero; it just makes you a self-hating bisexual as well as a cheating ho.

And you don't get to go on TV and expect our pity for "struggle" with what you still characterize as "sinful thoughts". Those are 100% normal thoughts to have if you are gay or bisexual. The only reason you're characterizing them as sin is that you are still a raging homophobe as well as a flaming homo or bisexual.

This guy has learned absolutely nothing in his time in the wilderness. He's decided that the best way to a comeback is to be even more of a sham hetero than ever. Since he's "sinned" and everyone knows it, he's using his own experience as a platform to project homophobic, ex-gay values and the myth that with enough therapy, you can brainwash away the gay, presumably because he wants to regain the acceptance of the same homophobic people he used to lead. What a hypocritical asshole.

Il Douchey [TotalFark] 2009-01-29 05:23:23 PM
Even his mea culpa is haggard. Jimmy Swaggart babbled about having sinned against us and how he had learned his lesson and moved beyond all that. And then later, yeah, it happened again.

keylock71 2009-01-29 05:23:37 PM
I love the, "I'm not homosexual, I'm just struggling with my urges" angle.

Like I said in a thread about this clown a few days ago... If he wasn't so twisted by his religious "morals", he'd probably be living a relatively happy life as a gay man somewhere, and he wouldn't have to satisfy his "urges" with male prostitutes.

/Sure, you're not a homosexual, Reverend...

I think he is embracing the benefits of an african-american President by embracing parts of the culture. Specifically, I think he's claiming he's on the down-low.

Hey Ted, remember, it ain't gay if you beat the guy up after.

robbiedo 2009-01-29 05:28:41 PM
Why not just accept the fact that you are gay, Mr. Haggard. Society has become much more accepting of homosexual lifestyle as a normal healthy function for a sizable subset of the population.

As Seinfeld said a decade or more ago,"Not that there is anything wrong with that."

Accept.

Being a big 'mo, I can say I have never had to "struggle" with my urges -- it was pretty clear from the beginning. All it took was removing the religious battering I got from the Catholic church as a child. And no, I was not abused by a priest (but Fr. Jacobs was pretty hot, in retrospect).

Corvus 2009-01-29 05:35:24 PM
Can someone from the "being gay is a choice" camp, explain to us why he chooses to keep being gay?

I can never get people who say homosexuality is choice to ever answer a few simple questions.

Did Oprah address meth in the gay community?

I don't know if its still a big problem, but about 5 years ago it was all about Tina and HIV.

A lot of guys got hurt.

Two of the phrases in the above sentence are incongruent. Can you point out which ones?

Seeing as how homosexuality regularly occurs in nature? I fail to see the incongruity.

Oh I think you were saying the homosexuality was a choice in last one of these threads and you never responded to my question.

Darconix when was the last time you saw an attractive man and were sexually aroused by him but made the CHOICE not to do anything about it?

Ted Haggard reminds me of a guy I had a conversation with once.

He was spouting off some anti-gay garbage and was all pissed off because it was a "choice." In my opinion it shouldn't even matter if it is a choice or not. It's your own life, do what makes you happy.

So I said if you can chose to be gay you must also be able to chose to be straight. I asked him if he chose to be straight, to which he replied "yeah." All I said was "That's not how it works for me. I am straight, and I can't just start liking cock one day. I naturally am into girls. If you have to make an consciously make an effort to like girls, you are not straight."

He just went silent and never said a word to me again.

Damn, I hate people who use those words in a sentence together. Pisses me right off...

Yeah, but then they generally BS a "Well, when I was about X years old, I made the choice. There, see? It's a choice!"

Honestly, I'm straight and capable of acknowledging a guy is attractive. WTF is the big deal if you're male want to have sex with another male? It's not like doing so harms society.

Just remember now, Haggard was 'made in the god's image'.

So, can we extrapolate from that that the god's 'dark and repulsive', also?

Sure, why not? Let's go with that one.

Darconix: Corvus: Darconix when was the last time you saw an attractive man and were sexually aroused by him but made the CHOICE not to do anything about it?

I don't choose to get aroused by a man.

That's not the question. Have you ever felt aroused by another male at all?

Now maybe you libs decide one night "hey, if I was into both dudes and chicks then I'd be doubling my chances of not going home tonight!" After a while, due to your sick self-loathing, you decide you're only into dudes. Personally, I find the very thought of it to be repulsive, so I never decided to down the rabbit-hole, as it were.

Clearly, someone's never heard of the Log Cabin Republicans.

phedex 2009-01-29 05:54:03 PM
Ive always held the belief that its impossible to choose to be gay. I just cant see someone openly deciding to get made fun of and treated like shiat the way gay people do.

I also couldn't just choose to stop liking women. That dude that posted the comment mentioning that earlier was right, and a pretty good description of why its not a choice.

I also think haggard is a big blowhard who's stuck in his religion with no way out.

SushiJoe: Did Oprah tell him off for calling gay sex "dark and repulsive"?...I hope so

Is that what he was doing? I understand he had been molested when he was younger, and had developed self-destructive impulses as a result. If you feel awful terrible and adulterous about it, sex of any kind, gay straight or otherwise, is pretty dark and repulsive. Its not like we're talking about blissful wholesome gay couples here.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2009-01-29 05:58:12 PM

That "choice" never even occurred to me, ever.
