FTFA:
"This monument ... will remain a present for the forthcoming generations," said Fatin Abdul-Qadir al-Nasiri, director of a Tikrit orphanage whose children helped fashion the sculpture. "(They) will remember the story of the hero (al-Zeidi) who bid farewell to the U.S. president ... in such a way.

Even aside from the wonderful insult to Bush, I think it's fantastic that the Iraqis have found what will surely be a lasting symbol of independence.
I mean, liberation was one of the justifications for the invasion, right?

I love that animated gif. Somebody needs to put music behind it. I'm thinking "Cotton Eyed Joe".

Irony?

If my hometown was mostly known for being Saddam's hometown, I'd want something to draw attention away from that fact, too.

I fear this statue may become a victim of sabotage.

Or is it, itself, a sabotage?

it makes me happy to see the Iraqi people dedicating such a statue to Mr. Bush. Say what you want about the man, but he made a country where an action like this would have meant watching your family be raped and murdered in front of your eyes, to a country where little girls and boys are hanging around a statement of freedom...

Im not a conservative, heck Im Canadian, but I can't stop being proud to know that my country lied to its own people to have Canadian soldiers along side the heroic Americans fighting for freedom of others.

It is saddening to know that he can never run for office of President again.

//Good luck and farewell to you sir.

You got an overall score of 4.5. What really hurt ya was the Russian judge. He gave you a 2.5, cause you're a caunck.

A big copper thingy on top of some plastery stuff? Be careful visiting this monument! Sounds like an EFP. Using those kids as a human shield is despicable.

Are you kidding me? If that guy was represented by Scott Boras he'd get at least $4 million from the Rangers.

FTFA: A sofa-sized sculpture

Is this a standard measurement for statues? How big is the Statue of Liberty in sofa terms? What does that convert to in love seats or ottomans?

I believe it's 35,485 sofas, 243 love seats, and 15 ottomans. I'm not a professional sculptor so I'm not certain.

It's a shoe-in for statue of the year, and probably the sole monument that will ever be built to bush's presidency, even if it is rather tongue in cheek. I hear the unveiling ceremony was a little straight-laced, but that's instep with the current times. Toe the line, bush was a heel, it's patent representation, arch, given the boot, so on and so forth.

/God, I'm getting lazy just abbreviating those last five.

Yeah but how does it relate to whatever those little plastic casings at the end of shoelaces are called?

What the world needs is a George Bush Memorial Wood Shed. Especially if corporal punishment ever comes back into fashion. Fathers will be able to take their sons there and teach them what eight years of George Bush was like.

Until then, should you ever need to eat your shoes Charlie Chaplin in the "Gold Rush" style, here is something to put on the menu:

Semelles de cuir de porc à la "Curée d'or"

Pommes de terre "shoe lace"

Trust me. Everything tastes better if you give it a French name.
