Now that he's had time to mullet over, neither shear audacity nor the old bob and weave are going to cut it. It's time to turn a new pageboy and fade away.

But this story is all the buzz. I certainly hope he can relax about this whole issue and doesn't get teased by those on the side burning for his impeachment.

Honest question for Chicago and other Illinois Farkers: How did this guy get elected? Since even the earliest rumblings on this scandal, I have not heard so much as a whimper of support or surprise from anyone across the political spectrum. Even the most ardent partisan Democrats seem to have acted like it was only a matter of time, so how was it this guy - who it seems no one ever liked in the first place - get elected governor?

Of course he wants to. The attention whore-eist part of the trial is the closing statement.

Nabb1: Honest question for Chicago and other Illinois Farkers: How did this guy get elected?

He was elected right after the big scandal with George Ryan because his opponent was Jim Ryan. Jim Ryan was not directly related with George Ryan but he shared the same last name so I think that is why people didn't vote for him.

For his reelection he had more money to spend (spent 4x his opponent), had full backing of the democrats, and tied his opponent to the George Ryan scandals in his ads.

It isn't just this. The Republican bench in Illinois is laughable. Judy Bar Topinka barely got -any- votes north of Springfield, because of what a joke she was, and there were even impeachment rumblings prior to 2006.

Well, we've reached the mane event Blagojevich must have dreaded, and it seems like it's a lock that he'll be permanently impeached. I just hope all 'merkins distressed by this can find piece of mind. It can't help cynicism to see the Governor of Illinois led out in handcoiffs.

Yeah no doubt. IL politicians are a crooked as they come. It would be interesting if King Richard II decided to run for gov. I would love to see the skeletons in his closet. Sadly while he is in Chicago, he is untouchable.

FWIW Blago had an approval rate in the 30's even before the scandal.

You do realize that the only reason Blagojevich won his first primary was because of the people south of I-80. If he didn't have all that support from south Illinois he wouldn't be governor.

Cook county and some of the far southern counties voted to keep Rod in 2006. Those of us in Sangamon county (where the actual capitol is) knew better.

You know what really annoys me about Blagojevich?

His eyes are too close together.

Kinda like the guy in this Family Guy clip (new window).

I mean, yeah, he sucks as a governor, but now I can't even look at him without wanting to try to pry his eyes further apart.

Shakespeare's Monkey 2009-01-29 12:09:53 PM
FTFA: Blagojevich arrived hours before a possible vote to remove him from office, planning a "passionate" speech in what could be a last-ditch attempt to keep his job.

"I'm not giving up hope here. I'm going to keep fighting for the people of Illinois,"

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the people of Illinois, as well as the nation, just want him to DIAF.

I'm curious as to the real details on this guy.

Does anyone have links to the tapes? Was he trying to sell the senate seat, like a scalper? Tickets? Tickets? You want tickets? senate tickets, I got em...

Or was someone trying to buy the seat, deal fell through and they framed him.

Not to say he's not a complete douche, that's his character. But is he any more criminal than any of the others?
And where did the anonymous tip come from? Someone who got outbid?

I'd really like some links or info to the case against the guy because, for as much of a douche as he is, I think the bottom of the situation is a reality most Americans wouldn't be comfortable with if they saw who has power of their government, and to what extent.

BTW, isn't trying to buy a senate seat just as illegal? Who's on the hook for that one?

Dude, you know its a small miracle Dollah Bill lost his seat to a republican. I was starting to wonder if he was going to run (and win) from federal prison.

In short, voters are idiots.

But then I suppose you wanted a more specific reason, so I'll shut up now.

Yep. Illinois is basically two states. South of 80 has more in common with Missouri than Chicago. But since Chicagoland has something like 80% of Illinois' population, and since everyone in the area listens to our local benevolent dictator, Daley gets to play kingmaker.
