I saw it live as well, but it was the 7:00 repeat. So I immediately checked TF to see if somebody has submitted it.

Yes, I am aware of how pathetic that is.

I did too. I feel like Matthews missed the boat there in simply laughing that off. It took the other guy to mention what a cheap shot it was.

The thing is, he was getting his ass handed to him before that comment, and if he hadn't made it, very few people would have cared. Because he insulted her personally, that clip will be played for a news cycle.

I'd bet Mrs. Precious Perfect's daddy makes him "Worst Person In the World" tomorrow.

Diogenes: but Walsh reminds me of "The Heckler" in that Seinfeld episode. Pure awful.

He was defending Rush Limbaugh, and because there's really no defense, and he had nothing to say, he kept telling Walsh, "just give it a rest". He said that, several times, to a political opponent on a talking head show.

It's the equivalent of a boxer complaining because someone hit him.

Shrugging Atlas 2009-01-28 10:03:17 PM
Dick Armey. Bigot, and one of the chief architects of the mindset in Washington where civil discourse is sneered at and having a different political opinon means you hate god and apple pie. He and his ilk are just as responsbile for the obliteration of the Republican party as Bush Jr. is.

And what the fark was Matthews thinking bringing on this cocksucker. With all the out of work Republican politicians, this asshole is the best he could do?

they deserve to be heckled. and i don't say that out of a spirit of meanness, i say it because they (and by "they" i mean republican talking heads on tv) constantly and consistently make completely unsupported assertions about the economy. assertions that are, if not entirely refuted by, at least greatly called into question by current economic conditions and the policies that preceded them.

"spending doesn't create jobs" - oh really? spending is hiring people to do things. that's what jobs are.

"tax cuts are the way to stimulate the economy" - really? then why did our economy grow more under bill clinton, with tax increases, than it did under bush, with tax cuts? why was the longest, most prosperous period for our country also the time of the most progressive tax code?

they couldn't answer these questions. they can't support their assertions. and so, when called on it even the slightest bit, they just started throwing insults, as seen here.

Curse you, I was planning to reference that.

But yeah, I saw this live but I turned it on midway through the discussion. So I didn't know what it was about, just that Dick Armey apparently wasn't named after a great uncle Richard. My jaw dropped when he said it and I immediately wondered if I'd have time to submit it to Fark.

Now sure, this is the kind of thing farkers say all the time, but that's why they keep us out of high office. What a tremendous douchebag. I hope this haunts him the rest of his life.

Surool [TotalFark] 2009-01-29 02:22:06 AM
@Falcc: That episode was on about a week ago. I barely finished reading Armey's name before I was looking for the quote.

At least he's very public about being a douchebag. None of this hide it until it accidentally gets out during a political rally stuff.

Actually, that sounds quite Churchillian, if you ask me:

Bessie Braddock: "Sir, you are drunk."
Churchill: "Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober."

Nancy Astor: "Sir, if you were my husband, I would give you poison."
Churchill: "If I were your husband I would take it."

Armey seems to be in good company.

First of all, Matthews interrupts everyone on his show, Army was trying to get his point accross, and failing at it.

Joan was fine until the end, and Armey was correct here, as she spewed "Bush.Bush..Bush, Repueblicans..Republicans.

My interpretation: Army was being a windbag, Matthews was being his usual obnoxious self, and Walsh needed to keep her whore mouth shut.

But that didn't happen. Watch the tape. They're talking about the appropriateness of a United States Congressman apologizing to RUSH LIMBAUGH, and Armey can't really defend that, so he goes on a personal attack. He called her a "paid political operative" as if he spends his days on the teevee for a girl scout merit badge or something.

Matthews is wound up too tightly with a lot of these politicians, like much of the media, which is why he is frequently tardy in calling them out on bullshiat.

I hope somebody puts together a compilation video of all these GOP assholes, whether it's Armey, Phil Graham, and/or Michelle Bachmann. It needs to be distributed en masse to battleground districts in 2010. This is a worn out party with no ideas and no future, and it's best for all Americans if it is put out of it's misery sooner rather than later.

Also, it seemed that Armey's point was "politics is not serious". I wish Matthews would've asked him, "okay, since politics is unserious and silly why are the Republicans letting silliness and unseriousness get in the way of coming up with real solutions to these serious problems"

Solutions?

You mean like $400,000,000 for STD prevention in an economic stimulus bill?

Phil Herup: That was after she went into her whole BUSH, GOP, talking points at the end.

She said President Bush and the Republican congress, WITH A LOT OF HELP FROM THE DEMOCRATS ruined this economy.

That's not exactly a DNC talking point. And even if it was, even if she started spouting code pink lines, Armey shouldn't have made a sexist comment.

This would have been two talking heads bickering on Hardball, forgotten even by Chris Matthews in a few hours, but now it's a video of Dick Armey being an ass.

Well, yeah. The GOP consists entirely of overfed, petulant frat boys. They don't care if they're doing the right thing for the country or the world, all they care about is winning. This requires them to lie, cheat, and steal at all times, and it's why they are unable to deliver a coherent message in the digital age, when they are instantaneously called on their bullshiat via YouTube and blogs.

MFL: You mean like $400,000,000 for STD prevention in an economic stimulus bill?

1) It was not STD prevention alone, it was birth control paid for by Medicaid.
2) Birth control for poor people WILL help the economy.

steverockson 2009-01-29 09:13:08 AM
STD prevention is also stimulative in that they are some of the most easily prevented diseaes yet cost taxpayers literally billions of dollars in lost worker productivity and healthcare costs.

//also it was 335 million not 400 million
//if you're going to make a lame attempt and slamming democrats get your facts right.

This reminds me of the Taliban guy who visited Texas some years ago and told the female reporter "I feel sorry for your husband." Does anyone else recall that?
