Sometimes he looks good to me. Mostly not these days. He looks sickly. Same with John Mayer. I guess drugs and hot and cold women will do that to you.

Wow. I've never heard of the guy but from the article, he appears to have made quite a bit of coin by sounding like a soulless more pop version of Elton John.

A coincidence because his reason for leaving LA is it's soulless.

It has been five years since Robbie Williams quit Britain for a new, quieter life in Los Angeles.

I'm sure it was quieter, what with being able to walk down the street and nobody having the slightest idea who you are.

I was not aware of that either. I really liked "Millenium;" I think that I heard "Angels" once, too. I did not like Take That, no sir I didn't.

I can understand his move, though... from all accounts he is huge in England but not in the US. That would be a relaxing change.

Spuddly 2009-01-27 01:34:57 PM
He was big(EGO) in Europe ....Then they tried to export him to the USA .....With "escapology" he wrote songs about the USA and cali! They were OK ,I like him but was in the States for the interview with Leno and he came off looking "Bad" and the inter view did not go well as I remember and after that he never really did anything?

You're thinking of Bruno Kirby.

/You mean that blues album that Bruce Willis put out?
//No, that was "The Return of Bruno"
///The last Star Wars movie?
. . .
/.../Nope, I'm sorry, we were looking for Tom Berringer. Tom Berringer. Well, hey, thanks for playing, sorry it didn't work out for you.

No, Harland Williams wrote the score to Benny Hinn's show, "Sit and be Fit."

WHO

madden101 2009-01-27 02:40:28 PM
I hate to be yet another of the cliché "for serious, who is this guy?" guys, but, seriously, who is he? The first couple of paragraphs make no mention of his major accomplishments, aside from being a pop star, and I gave up after that.

hamiltonjdavid [TotalFark] 2009-01-27 02:51:38 PM
I think he was living out in the Beckham's pool house. Now that David is in Italy, he's out of a place to stay so it's back to mum's.

You don't want to be stuck at home alone with that Victoria character. Word on the street is she's a bit of a slut.

/or so i hear

i must admit to liking the video where he's all sideburned up like a 1972 emerson fitipaldi.

He was in the British boy band Take That in the '90s, they are known for their song "Want You Back." Ugh.

Then he went solo in '98 or 99 and released the very popular (in the UK) song "Angels." He released "Millenium" off of his solo album in the US. The video (new window) is cool. He is known for having a huge ego, cheekiness, and, well I dunno what else.

It is a classic case of "huge in England, blip on the radar here."

This. His record company tried like hell to give him a big push in the states with Escapology since they paid him something like $70 million but it tanked over here. The album before that, Sing While You're Winning, was actually pretty good for pop stuff.

/liked "Angels," was meh on "Millenium"

He had a whole bunch of killer singles. He's one of those teen-oriented pop stars that 50-year-olds with 2500 vinyl LPs and a subscription to six different music mags like, too.

/I know two

FARK YOU AND STOP STALKING ME!

Seriously, I hadn't heard enough of his stuff to form an opinion either way. All I remember is his stuff from ten years and then just from reading the mags.
'The Ego Has Landed'?
Not in MY collection.

Ah, thank you. I don't feel so bad for not knowing who he is, then.

Stonerface 2009-01-27 11:19:20 PM
Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks the guy is a big joke. His cover of Manu Chao's Bongo Bong never ceases to make me laugh. Especially when he tries to speak french.

doctx 2009-01-28 02:28:55 AM
Wow, he really made a splash here I guess since no one knows who he is and that he was even here. I wonder if that is the reason he's heading back over the puddle. Maybe a bruised ego of being one of the masses was too much.

conejo 2009-01-28 05:22:52 AM
There have apparently been many British performers, while HUGE all over the rest of the world, that have tried to make it big here too and couldn't. He's not alone by any means and he certainly doesn't need the money.

Cliff Richard
T-Rex
Oasis
Travis
Texas
Supergrass
Pulp
Catatonia
Super Furry Animals
The Darkness
The Libertines
The Fratellis
The Gossip

come to mind for starters. There are loads more.

/really enjoyed Robbie's "Sing When You're Winning". "Escapology"...not so much.

Brits are kind of scary looking for exceptions.
