What's sad? You think he's a sellout? Would you prefer he'd OD? He's doing something to make money. What's the big deal?

big_pth [TotalFark] 2009-01-26 07:15:51 PM
Iggy Pop doesn't sellout. He BUYS IN. There is a difference. That difference? IGGY POP.

chemical_angel [TotalFark] 2009-01-26 07:19:23 PM
News Flash asshat: Iggy pop has been doing stuff like that off and on for a long time. Who cares? Big difference between what he does and what that pathetic putz Ozzy does. First rule: You don't bash Iggy.

He's got a lust for life paying his rent and keeping his electricity turned on.

Moments like these makes me truly believe rock truly is dying an unavoidable death. When Iggy doesn't even offend the TV crowd anyone, that's it. We have a funeral to go to

NOT because Iggy sold out. But because there's a marketing group somewhere that truly thinks it is advisable for an insurance company to use Iggy Pop for profit

Fusionex 2009-01-26 08:03:09 PM
So this is what it sounds like when doves cry.

Bill_Wick's_Friend: He's got a lust for life paying his rent and keeping his electricity turned on.

Yeah, it's either this or yet another "Greatest Hits" tour.

I think this is easier on the old timers.

The Who should stop now ... they must be livin' large off of all the CSI royalties.

Watchman [TotalFark] 2009-01-26 09:26:38 PM
Those of you complaining evidently thought it *wasn't* an act back in the day. It was the same act then as now. The only difference is that you recognize it.

Congrats.

Finally.

so the doing enough smack in a day to put down a bull Elephant was all an act? Cool and here I thought he had a substance abuse problem

I could live with Cocteau Twins doing a Fruitopia commercial, but Iggy selling insurance?

Next up: a CGI Freddie Mercury flogging credit default swaps.

pintoboy 2009-01-27 02:55:30 AM
When Iggy Pop and Gene Simmons co star in a depends commercial then I will know rock is truely dead.

ErikShocker 2009-01-27 03:02:16 AM
I found that to be an entertaining commercial. I'm a huge Iggy Fan, but for christ sakes, he was one of the dad's on Pete and Pete. Everyone from the glam era sold out who didn't have a name consisting of Johnny Thunders. Sure, you might think Iggy is a punk icon, and he is...but he's always done stuff for money and he's still as insane as he ever was.

Gangway Fathead 2009-01-27 03:03:09 AM
Procedural Texture: I could live with Cocteau Twins doing a Fruitopia commercial...

I don't remember that and I liked CT a lot.

Fruitopia, not so much.

But hey, the 90's were a farking masterpiece compared to this disaster of a decade.

That's not a "my generation's better than this one" slam, that's an indisputable fact.

Wait, what were we talking about?

Yeah but Pete and Pete was a damn cool show, though.

Again with the 90's. That decade kinda ruled.

Like most decades there are some really great stuff and some really rotten shiat. I did enjoy growing up in the 90's though, fun time to be a kid.

That's not right Iggy, it's just not right.

Jesus, that was terrible. And I don't mean terrible in a "Oh noes my favorite icon is 'selling out!' " sort of way.

I mean just farking terrible.

I'm pretty sure Iggy tried to sell me cruises with "Lust For Life", oh and of course Toyotas with "The Passenger". I guess after the Toyota stint, he figured he should sell the insurance as well.

Iggy hasn't really been punk for ages now, and that's not really a bad thing. It's sad to watch old punks try and keep up being young punks.

Anyone twenty year old who's ever taken an earring out before a job interview or worn longsleeves to cover tats is a farking sell out.

Any 61 year old who isn't getting paid is a farking moron.

/"Iggy should keep it real. He should get loaded on smack and roll around in glass and cut himself every day."

Iggy...needs...more...coke...money!

The Dynamite Monkey 2009-01-27 08:02:04 AM
Some of you people are just out of your minds...

...yeah Iggy's gettin' paid on his iconic status. Big whoop. He's paid his dues and he deserves it. Just like BB King for Wendy's. Anyone who thinks that invalidates 40 farkin' years of walking the walk is a stupid dick.

And "Iggy hasn't been punk for years?" Idiot. He practically invented the genre. And believe me, if you had seen him perform recently you would know he still brings it as ferociously as anyone ever has.

Dwight_Yeast 2009-01-27 08:23:52 AM
Man, watching that video, I STILL want to hit it. I can't think of anyone else his age who's that hot, and I'm well aware that he actually lives the life of a 70 year-old Jewish golfer these days.

He's a short man with a huge cock. What more do you need to know?

Christ on a cracker, people, what would make you happy? Does he need to spend his last ten bucks on junk and overdose in a gutter to earn your respect, would that be enough?

The guy practically invented punk rock. He broke all the rules. Wrote some amazing songs and changed the course of music forever. He's what, in his 60's now, and still kicks ass on stage. I see him at shows in NYC to this day pogoing up a storm. So he wants to make a few bucks, good for him. He has more credibility in the head of his cawk than all of you haters combined.

You know how I know you're now officially old?

I mean really, people have been saying this type of stuff for years. Iggy is like 60 for god's sake. He doesn't offend because most people don't know who is he. And was he really that offensive to begin with?

I never, ever begrudge anyone for making money. Hell, I do everything I can to make as much money as possible, so who am I to judge others that do the same thing.

the reason Punks or proto Punks like Iggy can never sell out - so to speak - is that they have always given the middle finger to everyone. They do whatever the fark they want and fark you if you don't like it.. and that hasn't changed here so = no sellout

some other artists though... Major Sellouts
