(music-News) Interesting Tom Waits tour to offer a trip "through Tom's epic misdeeds and shenanigans from the Trashing of the Troubadour to epic nights at the Tropicana." Either way, you end up way down in the hole with a jockey full of bourbon   (music-news.com) divider line 26

If he is a god, he is an over-rated one.

And yeah, I have some of his stuff.

On vinyl.

Don't care what they call it, I'm seeing it live, buying the t-shirt and forcing everyone I know to listen to the live recording.

Tom is not really my thing but I respect him. BTW Alison Krauss does a killer version of Trampled Rose (new window).

Tell me, Tom Waits fans, what did the Ramones do for Tom that he would write "I don't want to grow up" for them.

/'cause the song sounds like it was written specifically for them

The same Springsteen did with Jersey Girl-
Took a truly great song and made it their own.
The gratitude is knowing that someone else took your music and took it in new directions.

Because at its core, "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" is a classically-styled pop song, which is what the Ramones did their best work with.

As much as I have no use for Springsteen anymore
'Jersey Girl' is a good song.

It is also over 20 years old.

Therein lies my question, because this song is not a 'classically-styled' Tom Waits sort of song.

Tom is a weird man and an artist first and foremost.

Since I don't want to grow up was put on 1992's bone machine. You can properly assume it prob had it's genesis in the mid 80's. So time of release tom was 42. You put his age in context with the art and medium in which he works. A pop song about refusing to grow up but bang it's here already makes perfect sense. It's a brilliant peice of song writing.

And then allowing The Ramones (through CJ Ramones recommendation) to cover the song for their final album (1995) was brilliant.

The only thing worse than this guys noise are the people who think it's music.

Not to mention he looks like goat-boy.

/seriously makes Bruce Springsteen sound like Pavarotti

I'm sorry, but when I first heard Tom Waits I said, "what the hell is that." He sounded like a grandmother being strangled in a bucket.

That's what makes it soooo right. I call it "Monkey Killing Music" 'cause it's the perfect background music for when, ya know, ya gotta kill a bunch of monkeys.

It's not like Ol' Tom sticks to one particular style.

I bet you don't like Jazz either, do you? You either get it or you don't. Posts like this just make you seem like a whiny biatch.
