So I guess electing a black president didn't satisfy them. I guess we should all move back to where we came from and let this be a chocolate nation as Ray Nagin would say. Can I say Nagin? I never know anymore what sets people off. Although telling a white deputy he is in the KKK is apparently OK. Amazing.

What scares me the most about living in Florida is the fact that I always have to click on these articles to make sure the idiots in question aren't anyone I know, because they always sound like they could be.

I guess this proves that police officers get preferential treatment during arrests. Normally, telling a policeman he and his family members are KKK members would result in a beat down for the average citizen.

I know DUI laws vary greatly from state-to-state, but in Florida is a misdemeanor typical for a "first offense DUI" even after refusing to take a breath test?

Ditto. And think it's interesting how the commenters have jumped on it.

They're both cops in the same county. Maybe he knows that him and his dad really are in the KKK?

Shouldn't a cop know where the DUI checkpoints are? I figured they'd be posted on a bulletin board in the locker room or something like that.

Well they should have searched for narcotics instead of marijuana.

Florida Law permits a person to REFUSE to submit to testing one time without any criminal penalty. Refusing a BAC test is your best way to go if you know you are over the limit, as the prosecution is denied of the scientific evidence.

Handmade KKK costume? Is there another kind? Does Macy's have a secret Intolerance line of clothing that I am unfamiliar with?

it was written confusingly, but from I understand the guy getting arrested was black and was accusing the arresting deputy of being in the KKK

dj245: Is there another kind?

Indeed, I remember watching a 10-min video on an elderly lady whose sole occupation was sewing KKK robes. Although I suppose that still counts as 'handmade', but from a life-long professional outfitter, that's a good thing. If you're in the KKK, that is.

I'd like some clarification here. Are these "canine deputies" dogs? How do they know the dogs smelled "narcotics"? Can the dogs testify in court? I didn't think so.

OMFG, Lee County, LOL

Had my run in with them as a "youngster".

Come to think of it, it was around the same time I had a run-in with Collier County.

Stupidest cops evar. Complete assholes. Both counties.

I'm not sticking up for the cop for driving drunk, but seriously, what a bunch of bullshiat that you get harassed for simply avoiding the checkpoint. If I see one and I can avoid it, I will. And I never drink and drive. I would do it for the simple fact that I am not going to allow them to treat me like a criminal for merely driving down the street. If I'm not breaking the law(I.E. illegal U-turn) with my maneuver to avoid the checkpoint, they have no right to harass me for a perfectly legal maneuver.

/is glad though that they treated the cop like any other citizen in regards to charging him, rather than letting him walk

They sure are. In fact, our city actually tells the public about the checkpoints too if you think to check our website. Yet, many cops also party away from their jurisdictions.
