Why'd they need the fat suits? They must not work at my local Gamestop.

1. Fat Suits
2. Cosmetic Acne
3. ???
4. Profit

Since this was a big deal, a big enough deal to warrant a press release, that means multiple people had to agree to it, which baffles my mind. That means that at no point did anyone suggest that customers, fat and non-fat alike, might be offended by this type of campaign.

This is what happens when a company has a marketing and communications shop that exists in a vacuum, is complacent and believes their own hype.

It's asinine for a retail outlet to initiate a PR stunt that spins a negative. shiat, they'd be better off spinning the positive by having their staff dress in sexy Slim Goodbody-type lederhosen. It would have generated the same amount of press, just without the appearance that they're mocking a specific demographic.

On second thought, maybe I don't want to see retail clerks dressed like Slim Goodbody:

I think muscle suits would have been a better idea.

Also, if someone is offended by that, they are an idiot.

She's got better hair.

CruiserTwelve: Why does Slim Goodbody have Bonnie Franklin's head?

Maybe her 'n Schneider were into roleplay.

haws83: Also, if someone is offended by that, they are an idiot.

I'd agree. The thing is, do oversensitive idiots spend money on video games, and can the stunt influence those particular idiots' spending choices away from the company?

willydwonka: Why'd they need the fat suits? They must not work at my local Gamestop.

When I saw the headline, I honestly thought the article would be about overweight Gamestop employees not being able to fit into the fatsuits because they were too fat.

But reality was much more boring.

What's the over/under on how many lawsuits will come out of this?

SchlingFocker [TotalFark] 2009-01-25 06:14:47 PM
The only people who could possibly be offended by this are fat people.

Given the fact that fatties don't have feelings, I fail to see a problem.

EwokHunter 2009-01-25 06:28:27 PM
Do they smell of B.O. and mountain dew? Ok then, they are NOT offending gamers.

astrotri 2009-01-25 06:29:04 PM
Fat people are so sensitive, which is odd because I'd think all the blubber would deaden their nerves.

vabeard 2009-01-25 06:30:19 PM
FTA:Even though the obesity levels in the US are through the roof, it's hard to be fat. It's like the last bastion of people it's ok to look down on, only it's not ok.

huh? it must not be too hard. I'd say a lot of people are successful with being fat.

"Epic fail?" Looks to me like a little silliness and an overly sensitive blogger. I think there is more fail to be found out there.

I would rather see actress doing yoga myself, so I think the article was correct.

tbyte 2009-01-25 06:38:22 PM
Epic Fail is that someone took the time to write out a multi-page article about something worth of a picture caption at most.

Braindeath 2009-01-25 06:39:00 PM

Dammit.

I have to say this- because i feel it is overdue.

somebody has to be the bad guy, I will sport the hat proudly.

I have NO SYMPATHY for fat people.

Fat people are gross and I hate seeing them eat, watching them chew, yuck!

I ahve been overweight myself, lost the weight, i work out regularly, and I look great now- so i refuse to exhibit fasle pity, or spare the emotions of the pig people.

get off your butts and you wont be so fat.

jsut like I can't feel sorry for myself when I get cancer because I smoke. No pity.

You have one life- get off the friggin couch.

machoprogrammer 2009-01-25 06:59:48 PM
The author is what is "fail". "Epic Fail" is way, way, way overused and should only be used for cases where it is literal fail, like getting your tongue stuck to a cold, metal pole.

Smackledorfer 2009-01-25 07:05:28 PM
I was hoping for a security camera footage of a clerk in a fat suit who gets pushed over and robbed, and I'm leaving disappointed.

Commiesalami 2009-01-25 07:05:39 PM
I went into Gamestop while they were going through this promotion, it was thoroughly tongue in cheek and the employees (suddenly in possession of souls) were bouncing around and having a great time. Not Fail at all; Subby is probably fat and thinks its a glandular problem

/There were still pushing pre-orders and it really was just a huge push for people to buy Wii Fit
//I got my copy of EDF:2017, Ill be pointlessly killing bugs for 26 min until I have to go to the Gym

Actually, it's going to be ass cancer.

Sorry.

You can't buy publicity like this. I'm sure GameStop is apologising all the way to the bank.

It also has the side benefit of getting rid of the most annoying customers.

Win!

GSD4Ever 2009-01-25 07:16:25 PM
People were actually offended by this?

Please bring the end of the world tomorrow. I can't wait until 2012

Stinkyy 2009-01-25 07:18:51 PM
Epic fail according to who? That term shouldn't be thrown around loosely. We have a problem with obesity around here; it's good to call attention to it so we all put down that donut.

eddie van heinous 2009-01-25 07:19:47 PM
The Epic Fail is how outraged the undoubtedly fat assed blogger is.

What's the big deal? Of course most gamers are a bunch of out of shape fatties. Now if the Victoria's Secret ladies pulled off the same stunt it would redefine the meaning of Epic Win!

That's just not cool.

I actually bought a game from the Westport KCMO Gamestop and the skinniest of the three clerks had to be about 275 pounds.

The other two had to be over 400. But all three were awesome as hell in the customer service department.

/Would shop there again.
