Goodness, it's almost as if the fact that race wasn't enough of a big deal to the deciding factor in an election between a black guy and a white guy IS a big deal. But, how can that be? Either race is super important and we all vote for the person that looks like us, or it isn't important at all and we never get to talk about victories for the civil rights movement. Everybody knows that's how it works!

Now I get what you're saying about the media, but if you really think the media is an appropriate microcosm of the country Drew has a book to sell you. There's a whole hell of a lot of stupid there. It's a big deal that we elected a black president, but it's a big deal because we didn't elect him FOR his race. The point is that a white man with the same message, tone and rhetorical ability would likely have won. We elected a president, who just happens to be black, and that's a big step forward.
