FTA The key to developing an amazing pirate costume, in my opinion, is the coat.

I find this odd because for the most part, pirates weren't all that wealthy, and what wealth they did have sure didn't go to their wardrobe. It was spent mostly on booze, women, weapons and food (in that order I'm sure). The typical pirate wore the same nasty tattered cloths that are worn for months on ends, only gets washed if it rains or they end up overboard.

Pirates are to today's younger generation as cowboys were to the kids in the 1950s. It's kind of creepy. They even get the costumes all wrong and make them much more cartoony and colorful than they really were.

Twenty years from now, people are going to look at our representation of pirates in the same way we look at Hopalong Cassidy and all that singing cowboy garbage from the 50s.

Real pirates don't need a costume.
