I would imagine the converse is not true.

I must say, I'll give her points for listing Running Free as a favorite and not going with the more obvious stuff.

Wonder if she likes the song Paschendale?

So now we're going to have a bunch of pre-teen girls listening to "Killers" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"?

I'm not sure whether this is awesome or scary yet...

Put Miley in the iron maiden and execute her

The link has a ton of links to photos, but none to photos of her wearing the Iron Maiden shirt (at least none I could find).

I would really like to see if these girls in vintage rock shirts can name even one song by the band they're wearing.

I saw a pic of her the other day. She had on a Live After Death shirt that looked like she had just bought it from Hot Topic. I'll give her props, she'll introduce an entire generation of tweenies to Maiden.

I am pretty sure that the rest of us are not that generous.

Too be fair... I did go to the trouble of taking the elephant gun off of the mantle, loading it, googling directions too her house, and calling in vacation time to work to cover the drive out to LA.

At this point it would be kind of a let down.

Hey, when I found out recently that Michael Bolton was once a heavy metal singer (new window) and used to tour with Ozzy, I figure anything's possible in the world of music*.

*-this post in no way endorses the idea that what Miley Cyrus produces is a legitimate form of music.

I'll be honest with you, I love his music, I do, I'm a Michael Bolton fan. For my money, I don't know if it gets any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman"*.

* - this post is a movie reference and in no way endorses the idea of Michael Bolton or of Miley Cyrus.

This.

A lot of my students are in their early 20s and love to wear vintage rock shirts to class. I start asking them about certain songs and get that blank stare...

Hell, that was true when some of these albums first came out. When Pink Floyd's The Wall came out, you saw all the t-shirts and posters, everybody had the album or the tape. And maybe 1/3 of those people actually listened to the whole album. The rest just played "Another Brick in the Wall, part 2" over and over again, and had no idea what the song meant (it's not about rebellious students in general, it's a musical rebuke to the teacher from the previous song, "The Happiest Days of Our Lives").

A friend of mine had bought the album (a two-record set, for those not old enough to remember what that was like) and had owned it for around six months when we were talking about it, and I told him that "Run Like Hell" and "Comfortably Numb" were my favorites. He hadn't heard them. He had never put the second LP on.

So I threw him out of the Manual HS bell tower. (kidding.maybe.)

I can't wait for some nerd to approach her and start asking her about Blaze Bailey-era B-sides or what her favorite live version of "Iron Maiden" was.

/still want to hear Maiden perform "Virus" live, damnit.

I can believe it. If it wasn't for me listening to metal my sister would probably still only be listening to Nsync, backstreet boys and Salt-N-Pepa. If there is one thing I am glad I brought into my sisters life, it would be the METAL. Oh and giving her a niece too.

I have seen a ton of kids wearing Iron Maiden stuff. Either Hot Topic started selling it or they are genuinely interested. I guess any renewed interest in Iron Maiden is good.

Up the IRONS!

my 8 yr old daughter is a HUGE Miley Cyrus fan........and Demi Lovato......and Selina Gomez......and the Jo-Bro's.
But when she's in MY vehicle she's a major Rush fan....and Ozzy.....and Queen.........and Iron Maiden.
She says the first reason she likes those bands that we listen to together, is because I like them. The second reason she says, is because the bands songs are kinda deep and make you think.
some of her faves are 2112 (especially "The Oracle" and "Soliloquy"), Subdivisions, Crazytrain, Bark at the Moon, Flight of Icarus, The Trooper and Run for the Hills.

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2009-01-25 09:46:28 AM

You can't kill the metal
The metal will live on
Punk-Rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were smite to the ground
New-wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal Ha,hahahahaha
They failed, as they were thrown to the ground
Aargh! yaow! [x2]

[Singing]

No-one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know

New-wave tried to destroy the metal, but the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal, but metal was in the way
Punk-rock tried to destroy the metal, but metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal, but techno was proven wrong
Yea!

Metal!
It comes from hell!

Hot Topic started selling it. They also sell Slayer shirts, and have a wall of Atreyu shiat. Cannibal Corpse too.

Yeah, but fun!

Boy, some of your guys are pretty harsh. You know that she's not making music for YOU, right? That her music is geared towards tweens and girls, yes? And as far as that goes, it isn't bad at all. I mean, it could be worse - it could be rap, or "dance pop" or some garbage like that (think Raven).

As the dad of an 11-year-old girl, I at least appreciate that her music could be considered "rock". So when my girl hears some real rock music, at least she can relate.

Not trying to be humorless, but it just isn't THAT bad. Really.
