I guess being a Governor, taking on the oil companies, and having to put up with that old fart RINO McCain is nothing. I dunno, she makes a pretty good caricature of what people think Republicans are. I won't buy the book, or read it, but Tina Fey made her famous.

Big payments for memoirs are based on public perception, not what's inside. My opinion is she's popular enough for a seven figure deal, but not eight.

...Aaaaaaaand there's your problem.

If you're a politician, it's generally considered a good thing if you're famous for your "politicking" and not because you are easily made the butt of jokes. I mean, Christ, as many times as Rudy 9iu11iani was made of on that show, that's pretty far from the first thing you think of when his name is said.

Howsabout our hometown girl? Tonja Harding? Don't you think she would rather have been known for skating than for all the SNL parodies of her messed-up story?

You can come back from a huge loss. You can come back from an unpopular ideology. You can even come back from a drug or sex scandal (Hi Sam!). Once you've been labeled "Stupid", though... that shiat doesn't wash off.

she'll even have the support of the independents who furiously supported McCain this time around. She'll be there in 2012.

one can only hope. she represents everything that's wrong with the post-gingrich republican party. she's anti-conservative, anti-intellectual, anti-responsibility, anti-constitution and anti-inclusion. she's just a gift that keeps on giving.

And that would matter how? I do believe she should write a memoir and sell it, simply because Sarah Palin is completely representative of the Republican Party of today, and I want her to be the nominee in 2012.

I know a lot of people who say that they had doubts about voting for Obama until McCain picked Palin, and that completely sealed their vote...for Obama.

Until some powerful Republican stands up and says "No, she is not qualified to be President, no one outside her little cult of crazies wants her to be President, so shut up and rally around someone with a snowball's chance in hell of beating Obama," the Republicans are utterly and completely screwed. They're a party in full meltdown now. Rather than learn from the lessons of '08, they're clinging even harder to the mistakes that got them an assbeating. And Palin is the emblem of that.

My aunt was one of those people who voted for Obama in the primaries because Rush told her to. I just didn't understand abusing the right to vote that so many people have fought and died for. (Corny, I know.)
But if Palin runs in '12 I wonder if I'll be able to stop from voting for her in the primaries. I just don't know if I could resist.

you mean like being elected the first black president of the Harvard Law Review? you're right, totally insignificant and utterly unworthy of any recognition, let alone a book deal for someone most of the nation knew jack shiat about at the time, and who had approximately zero intention of a political career.

Mother won a race for city council and Mayor against all odds. Lost her race for Lt Governor then as a dark horse beat the established GOP machine and won the Governor's mansion against a former Democratic governor. Later on being nominated for the Vice Presidency

thats a decent set of acomplishments and a pretty darned good story for a memoir

What Palin fails to realize is this:

Once you've been on the receiving end of a trainwreck campaign- and that's exactly what Palin's campaign was- the smart thing to do is melt into the background and hope time rehabilitates your image and allows people to forget what was so bad about you.

She hasn't done that at all so far. If she spends too much more time continuing to remind people why they didn't vote for her, she may get the 2012 nomination, but the general is going to be an utter disaster, especially if Obama's first term goes well. It will be unwinnable, and she won't even be able to make the score look respectable.

And once she takes THAT kind of hit in addition to everything else, that's it. Political career over. Beyond repair. Any further campaigns will earn her the 'perennial candidate' label, and you have a hard time getting people to take you seriously once you've been branded a perennial candidate.
