As far as CNN broads go, Campbell Brown is not nearly as hot as Erica Hill.

And anyway, what kind of parents name their daughter Campbell?

I could never tell if Campbell Brown was a PUMA or a Coulter wanna-be.

I'd probably still hit it like an Iowa republican to a corn lobby. Maybe 2 shots to cover the fact that nothing looks quite like it seems in person.

I heard tonight on NPR that it was actually Robert Gates that wanted the exception, not Obama. Is CNN or NPR correct?

Rethorn 2009-01-24 02:08:01 AM
She doesn't understand what transparency is, but boo on Obama for this.

Sabyen91 [TotalFark] 2009-01-24 02:08:25 AM
Hmmm, Campbell Brown or Barack Obama. Yeah, that choice is obvious.

Well... Obama does have this one coming. I'll grant.

Campbell Brown is trying way too hard to to be a tough as nails, no BS reporter in the Edward R Murrow mold, but comes off more as a David Horowitz melamine tainted knock off.

Frankly, it is not working too well, and the discomforting biatchiness from her pregnancy is not helping exactly enhancing her effectiveness.

They should can her, and put John King in her slot. I think he would be much more watchable, and slightly less biatchy.

gatsome 2009-01-24 02:14:01 AM
Isn't she married to a big time right-winger? So even if by chance she wasn't republican, every once in awhile she has a little bit of it in her.

Onetrack 2009-01-24 02:17:40 AM
She's kinda hot in that kinky school marm sort of way, you know beneath that exterior she'd be hot as hell and just as freaky.

Given the chance I'd split her like firewood, make her eyes change color.

/bam
/bunk.. heading there.

I know !.

Lobbyists in DC are like rats in NYC. You can't throw a rock without hitting 2 of them.

Gates told reporters at the Pentagon that:

"People in the transition certainly recognized that it was an issue. And I interviewed Bill Lynn; I was very impressed with his credentials; he came with the highest recommendations of a number of people that I respect a lot. And I asked that an exception be made, because I felt that he could play the role of the deputy in a better manner than anybody else that I saw."

That was a tad underwhelming. Also, that's not what the word transparency means.

PerfectlyCromulent 2009-01-24 02:28:02 AM
If I understand correctly, this guy quit as a lobbyist about 10 months ago, and Obama's rules state that no one can work in the White House who was a lobbyist less than a year ago.

So assuming I have everything right, is this technically going back on his word? Yeah. Am I alright with him making an exception for someone Gates thinks will do a very good job? Yeah.

She said that transparency meant not seeking exceptions to rules which you made. Transparency is being open and communicative, and she never acuses him of not being those.

Uh, Obama said that he would not hire a lobbyist unless they hadn't been lobbying for at least a year, right? He's hired someone, on the recommendation of gates, who lobbied as recently as last March, right? Since it is not yet March, it seems the man must have lobbied within the year, and is therefore outside the original criteria.

Looked to me like Remy had a good point.

Yes, Obama lowered his standards.

Yes, for that he should be questioned, as he was.

And yes, his answer made sense, when questioned.

Did I get that right, RemyDuron, or is it back to the brain doctor for me?

Jesus Farking Tits!

When the Black Socialist thinks that he needs a white boy like this work in Defense, knowing full well what sort of hay will be made from him begging exception, we had better all listen.

It's not like he's trying to stick Al Sharpton's illegitimate son in at Secretary of State or something.

I'll type slowly.

Bill Lynn. Raytheon lobbyist picked for No. 2 at the Pentagon. After selling Raytheon's services to the Pentagon. Standards say he can't work at the same place he lobbied for 2 years. But he's going to work at the same place he lobbied.

That's what the whole "Ethics Waiver" thing means. There are standards, and this "waiver" thingy means they don't have to meet the standards this one time.

Shadowen 2009-01-24 03:06:44 AM
I'm willing to give Brown and Obama both a pass on this.

Yes, Obama went back on his word, but every rule needs an exception. I'm a little dismayed that it was a Bush appointee that got the first exception on request, but Gates being by far the most competent and ethical of Bush's cabinet, I have no real problem with it.

Similarly, Campbell may be trying too hard, and she's married to a Fox News man, but she also despised Sarah Palin and I think she's genuinely trying to be unbiased. Oh, and she's pregnant, so if she gets cranky, it's only to be expected.

(actually, I did hear the radio wrong. He's only been gone from Raytheon since July...)

Either way, the waiver means he can have a say on issues that affect Raytheon -- a massive contractor with its fingers in just about every aspect of defense spending. If the standards Obama set were strictly imposed, Lynn couldn't go to work there.
