And, you know, he actually sounds sincere about his argument. He'd almost be believable if he hadn't been nearly silent about this issue since the day it came to light, and given everybody a chance to form their clear opinions about the man, viz., he's a selfish egotistical idiot who never should have been re-elected in the first place.

It's a good strategy, but I don't think it'll be nearly enough. Blago knows as well as anyone else that the impeachment trial isn't a criminal trial, and the same rules don't apply, but he's hoping the uneducated masses in Chicago won't think about that.
