Sweet. "Dub Side" is one of those perfect summer albums.

Reading that headline made my brain hurt.

Dub side is solid.

I hope this one is as well.

PattyMcG 2009-01-23 04:22:42 PM
Those albums ruled. Dub Side a little more than Radiodread, but then again, better source material, right?

Sgt. Pepper is going to be tough. How do you out-trippy The Beatles and yet keep the phat beats intact? Can it be done?

Hells Yeah!

I hate the word dub.

I don't even like reggae all that much, but those albums are great.

Glitchwerks 2009-01-23 04:57:03 PM
Although this sounds kinda cheesy, I can't deny that the artists involved are pretty damn good.

I'd rather listen to their own material though.

The Beatles have been out-trippied by the entire genre of electronic music already. :p

Radiohead is better than Pink Floyd. There, I said it.

i think dub side is a more enjoyable album start to finish but some songs of radiodread stand out more on their own than they do as part of the album. but i suppose that's to be expected, considering the source material

By the way, can we ditch the homeless dude selling t-shirts for $6 and bring back the cute chicks hawking t shirts instead?

Man, these new ads are kooky.

Valdes 2009-01-23 05:43:30 PM
We already know that Radiodread is the worst album they made, or will ever make.

mrchowwow 2009-01-23 06:11:54 PM
As much as I hate to say it, the Radiodread version of "Let Down" is brilliant. And I don't like reggae or tribute albums.

Arpeggi760 2009-01-23 08:16:44 PM
Valdes trolling a quasi-Radiohead thread? It's more likely than you think.

SubBass49 2009-01-23 08:52:48 PM
I really liked both of those albums...will be looking forward to the new one.

That's right!

I was unimpressed by the Dub Side of the Moon. It was faithful to Pink Floyd, but very plain reggae. Better to listen to the original Floyd, then maybe some Black Uhuru. If that's too harsh, try some of that King Tubby / Augustus Pablo dub.

That's not really the point - the fun is hearing the two mashed, however unfaithful to 'true' reggae, whatever that is, it might be.

My old boss and I used to kill time by coming up with lists of albums they should try next - Sgt Peppers was always up there, but we'd also like to hear London Calling (too easy?), Apetite for Destruction, Led Zeppelin IV and The Black Album done.

I'm still waiting for a communist band to make Sgt. Pinko's Lonely Marx Club Band.

Woo, Dread Zeppelin (pops) did this ages ago.

Excellent, excellent band. The way they did "Paranoid Android" made me wish it always had a brass section in it.

Dub Side of the Moon is amazing. The way they keep true to the songs, capture the same mood, evoke the same emotion on every track while translating it into an entirely different genre is impressive. Can't really recall a cover album that I enjoy listening to as much as the original, but this one stands out.

/Radiodread was good with a few great tracks, but 'meh' compared to Dub Side

Woah. I think that'd be in the 'too-hard' basket with Nevermind the Bollocks, Melon Collie and Xtrmntr.

I think once they've done the Beatles, that'll be it, to be honest!

I concur, I got it on a whim just out of curiosity being a Floyd fan, and was blown away by how damn good it was.

I think things need to be medium tempo for it to work good, that's why the Floyd worked so good. Speed dub probably won't have the right vibe
