The fellow singing along in the audience has a beautiful voice.

Well, if Aretha Franklin can sing `God Save the Queen' during the inauguration then a G'damn bunch of Canucks can sing Bruce Springboards `Born in the USA'!!

HappyHarryHardOn [TotalFark] 2009-01-23 02:00:27 PM
I believe at least 2 band members are Americans, but that was terribly awful and embarrassing,

It would not have been hard to listen to a recorded rehearsal and realized that their vocals were just not working out

romanmaronie 2009-01-23 02:20:21 PM
My God, that was awful. AWFUL. So was Aretha's "My Country 'Tis of Thee". She butchered the thing.

harland_mct 2009-01-23 02:25:36 PM
Guys, are you all daft? It was the guy holding the camcorder who was singing like complete ASS. Listen more closely. The band did a great performance...as always.

Blowmonkey [TotalFark] 2009-01-23 02:26:27 PM
This is like people playing every breath you take at weddings. People should actually listen to the songs.

Oh and its terrible as well.

Bob Ondeeznuts 2009-01-23 02:27:42 PM
Ugh, I hate that song.

devilskware 2009-01-23 02:35:23 PM
Zip Code Rapists, on the other hand, do a stellar version.

/could not find said version on intrawebs.

I think the Reagan administration used this song too.

I have both their albums and their EP, love them greatly.

But that was pretty bad, man.

Dafatone 2009-01-23 04:44:11 PM
How can this not work?

Win Butler sounds EXACTLY like Bruce. EXACTLY.

Trunks378 2009-01-23 05:39:04 PM
I'll say it

Arcade Fire > Bruce Springsteen
...but should probably stick to their own songs

Land Ark [TotalFark] 2009-01-23 06:07:57 PM
That wasn't so bad - at least some of them were Born in the USA.

If you think that is bad, you should go to a Dandy Warhols concert and be subjected to them doing awful covers of their own music.

/ Worst. Concert. Ever.
// "Bohemian Like You" doesn't last 12 minutes and hold on one note for 5 of them

seconded, also not a good pick if your band is 5/7th Canuck even if you're American and know the song's context.

At this point, they've probably got all the majors labels pounding down their doors.

And yet, Bruce's cover of Keep The Car Running is brilliant.

NYZooMan 2009-01-23 07:10:15 PM
Hell, even the original sucks.

Most will ask me if the album version of that song is Springsteen. Or a total rip-off of that Eddie and the Cruisers song, "On the Dark Side," or something like that. Seriously, listen to it and tell me you don't hear Eddie and the farking Cruisers.

And for the record, Springsteen > Arcade Fire.

I hope that "Born in the USA" wasn't played as though it were anything but the acidic, critical song that it is. An entire generation of dumbasses still pumps their fists in the air when this 'anthem' is played, and it's the mother of all facepalms. The song itself, though, is amazing IMHO.

Oh, come on!

"Born to Run" (the song) > Arcade fire's entire body of work

/dont like Springsteen
//prefers Frankie goes to hollywood's version of "Born to run"

Bruce must be spinning in his grave.

Bicycle safety tip: Bruce must be spinning in his grave.

This would be funny if he was dead.

I read an article about two years ago about how big of a Springsteen fan Win Butler is and yet the odd thing is that in the same article Springsteen mentioned that he's a big Arcade Fire fan. Strange, I think not.

Given their catalogue of tunes I'd guess it was

that's funny.... i always thought that "antichrist television blues" sounded a lot like Springsteen. [down to the "you've gotta work hard and you've gotta get paid" line]

/ did you know: the main guitar riff for "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits from "making movies" is incredibly similar to the main intro piano riff from "Jungleland" from "born to run" by Springsteen?
and that Roy Bittan played on both albums?
coincidence? i think not.

It's like a high school talent show.
At least the guy holding the camera was entertaining, lol.

shirtsbyeric 2009-01-24 08:06:45 PM
It started a little sloppy but I think it was cool. Better than that loser Bruce.

Amazing band but terrible video and a horrible cover.
Stick with your own material Win.
Shoulda sang "Intervention" at Bushes inauguration.

NOCARSGO!

/Shrug, the quality is bad, and the guy holding the camera sounded horrible but the band sounded fine.

/Big Arcade Fire fan

They are just trying to perpetuate the cover up that he wasn't born in Kenya.

//adjusts tin foil hat

Arcade Fire's frontman is from Texas. That's a long way from Montreal. His brother who is also in the band is from Texas.
OK so they group is based in Canada and has mostly Canuck musicians.
We're already sorry for Celine Dion we don't need to apologize for any more of our entertainers.
