"There will be some layoffs and there will be universal pain," Rendell said at a Capitol news conference. "I don't want to hear whining.

"Fark you," Rendell added.

Thanks, Ed. Thanks a lot. There's absolutely no need to trim expenses, like last week's $12 million investment in "agricultural tourism" you announced that just happened to -- surprise -- coincide with the Farm Show.

$12 million against a $2.3 billion deficit is barely more than a drop in the bucket, sure. But put a bucket under a dripping faucet and sooner or later, it will fill up. Especially after you stop drilling holes in the bottom for your special-interest friends.

"There will be some layoffs and there will be universal pain," Rendell said at a Capitol news conference. "I don't want to hear whining. I think everyone has to tighten the belts."

How about YOU take a pay cut or defer part of YOUR salary and ease up on the limos and other perks for a while, Eddie.

/THEN you'll hear some whining
//What a prick

Fark you, Rendell.

Does Pennsylvania still have a flat state income tax of 3% ?

And it's surprising when there's a budget deficit?

Rendell is corrupt and retarded. And it's only because he was mayor of Philly that he got elected in the first place.

1.6b to 2b then 2.3b in a month. so by next month it'll be up to 3b right?

I'm pretty sure the corruption and rampant nepotism and mismanagement have more to do with it than the flat tax.

It was Virginia McCop-Beater. So....they are not a viable alternative.

Yes, and in most areas we also have to pay an additional township tax. In my area it is .05%.

Nice to see the Harrisburg Farkers come out of the woodwork.

I'm slightly apprehensive about any looming personnel cuts and stunned that Eddie is against raising taxes or other methods to help balance things out.

/Step 1: Cut pension benefits.
Step 2: If they don't want their benefits cut, cut pensioners. "The hard way", if necessary.
Step 3: Profit!

Go ahead and discount the green party, but winning local elections is what they focus on. No one thought Cynthia would get invited to any debates or get elected.

lexnaturalis: I'm pretty sure the corruption and rampant nepotism and mismanagement have more to do with it than the flat tax.

Since the Pennsylvania legislature is fairly balanced between Rep and Dem, I'm guessing the state representatives and senators have to pay some attention to what the voters want.

So I guess the voters want nepotism and mismanagement.

Yay democracy.

There's not a viable third party therefore you shouldn't vote for a candidate from a third party which leads to a non-viable third party.

I assume that's what he meant.

I wouldn't call it a flat tax, although it's much simpler than most and it's a lot higher than it was when Tom Ridge was governor. Rendell has also been raising other taxes revenue streams at every opportunity by increasing fees and reducing state services wherever he can.

I'm going to guess that all of Schwarzeneggers friends would laugh at the offer of a six-figure job.

That's like the fat guy saying "If only I had healthy options to eat I wouldn't be obese" while eating at a McDonald's.

Live within your means. It isn't hard for citizens to understand, why is it for government?

Yeah, I know, but I feel like that only applies if I meant you should never vote for any 3rd party candidate ever. ScubaDude said "that's what happens when you vote for dems/repubs," implying that you should NEVER vote for the current 2 parties. in any event, there is not a viable 3rd party for me to expend all of my votes on ... be it local and federal elections - and i'm certainly not voting straight green or straight independent to avoid a logical fallacy.

but sure ...

The river.

You dig a big ditch around Philly, redirect the river into it, fill it nhe old bit, and say "HAHA NJ IT IS YOURS NOW biatch" and then we take down all the bridges and post the NG along the river.

Philly sucks. And for a lot more reasons than just the Flyers.
