Jibberjabber. I'll be impressed when Obama fires a Cabinet member for letting his department suppress embarrassing information about this administration. Until then, same ol' same ol'.

Hasn't that been the MO of the right for a while? Lurch 20 spaces rightward, and then howl when we move 15 spaces back. Meanwhile, the center shifts.

FTFA: New US president Barack Obama has ordered government agencies to release more information

You are aware that the President gives orders, that that's his job, right?

This is entire reason I was for Obama: transparency. Trust, but verify.

I'm quite aware of what his job entails, and until the system is tested it's only on paper.

Simmer down.

"Nondisclosure should never be based on an effort to protect the personal interests of Government officials at the expense of those they are supposed to serve. In responding to requests under the FOIA, executive branch agencies should act promptly and in a spirit of cooperation, recognizing that such agencies are servants of the public," he said.

Awesome.

Psssst... signing these things is as close to action as a president gets. Executive orders carry some heavy-duty legal weight (like say, an order to integrate the military, or close Gitmo, or to classify hundreds of heretofore accessible documents...)

Or was the PATRIOT Act "just words" too?

Well, considering Bush's inability to catch Bin Laden, and completely screwing the pooch on the War on Terrorism, I would call Bush a Sekkrit Mooslim too.

That writing words, as stated above which many people clearly did not read the system hasn't been proven. When disclosures occur, then I'll consider it action. If he goes after people who still try to prevent embarrassing situations from being disclosed, then I'll consider it action.

I have no faith in politicians, unless they actually follow through with their system, it's just words. The same goes for Gitmo, until that whole situation is over and done with, it's just words.

What's described in this article *is* action on Obama's part, not words. An executive order is one of the only kinds of actions a President can take (i.e. he can't himself physically force agencies to grant FOIA requests).

I see what you're saying in the sense that we haven't seen the actual requests being complied to yet, but you can see why we're calling you out. It should be a foregone conclusion that eventually this will get done. If various parts of the executive branch start failing to comply with the President's lawful orders, I think we have bigger problems than FOIA requests.

We're talking about politicians, people who find loopholes and skirt the guidelines for a living. Until one of them discloses or is caught hiding a disclosure, it's just words. Obama wrote words, they have yet to be taken through their processes, thus they have not been acted upon. His action will be following through with the written order.
