Dear Dick Cheney:

Go fark yourself

Sincerely,

And Cheney would be the guy who'd know, since he probably threw him under the bus. Poor Scooter! He only got his sentence commuted!

Cubist Robot Party 2009-01-22 11:16:26 PM
So were the hundreds of "detainees" who spend 5+ years in Guantanamo Bay before being released without charge.

Don't see you crying over them.

NewportBarGuy [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 11:34:12 PM
Dick Cheney should have been miscarried.

Occam's Chainsaw [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 11:36:56 PM
Dick Cheney would know all about miscarriages, seeing as how Thursday is "Push a Pregnant Woman Down a Flight of Stairs Day".

whidbey [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 11:38:31 PM
Dick Cheney is quite the elder statesman these days.

He's so respected.

cryinoutloud: And Cheney would be the guy who'd know, since he probably threw him under the bus.

I think Cheney's implying that Scooter was innocent... which means that Cheney's probably the real guilty one here.

Neeek [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 11:42:25 PM
I remember when I heard Libby got his sentence commuted. I started bleeding because I punched a wall too hard.

Confabulat [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 11:45:11 PM
The only miscarriage of justice here is that Dick Cheney is scot free.

HansensDisease [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 11:51:06 PM
That's nice.

Cheney and Bush should have done squat thrusts on a rusty oil rig.

vartian [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 11:52:29 PM
Well, Scooter Libby is an American so yes, I would say he has been a victim of a serious miscarriage of justice. For the past eight years.

Makh [TotalFark] 2009-01-23 12:04:00 AM
Dick Cheney is the most brilliant comedian ever. How does he manage to top himself each time?

You should have thought of that before your term as President expired, Mr Cheney.

Thousands of non-violent drug offenders in our prisons and Scooter never did an actual day in jail for helping destroy a political opponent's wife's career and destroy a covert cover...hmmm, yeah, SCOOTER is the one who deserved a pardon.

Hell, we got former postal workers with federal criminal raps for destroying junk mail rather than deliver it. Freakin' national heroes, no pardons.

Geez.

Yes, how DARE that evil justice department apply the law. I guess Cheney gets scared things happen that are required by law.

Cheney should be damn glad his ass isn't in the Hague now, shut the fark up, and go off to Wyoming to spend the money he pocked from Halliburton, directly benefiting from decisions he made as Secretary of Defense and Vice President. Until, hopefully, he's dead of a heart attack in a few months.

lajimi [TotalFark] 2009-01-23 01:22:17 AM
The only miscarriage of justice here is the lack of impeachments and indictments of the Bush administration.

Bladel [TotalFark] 2009-01-23 01:25:56 AM
Yes, Scooter is a victim here.

Someone needs to protect him from the Evil Doer Valerie Plame.

In these troubling times, won't someone please think of Scooter?

Well, in a way he's right. In a just system, Scooter wouldn't have covered for his superiors, and they would have gotten the boot. It was a gross miscarriage of justice, but not quite in the direction that Dick thinks it was...

TommyymmoT [TotalFark] 2009-01-23 01:47:10 AM
I used to know a dog that was nicknamed "Scooter", because he used to drag his butthole across the carpet after he crapped.

Oh wait, same guy? Never mind.

The precedent was set before Libby was involved, I'd rather not go scrounging up links that I found while writing a paper on the media's use of classified information and their ambush tactics, but needless to say there have been a number of cases where covert ops have been removed from their task due to either an unwillingness NOT to report some juicy covert ops story or someone attempting an ambush question who lets something fly that shouldn't have been.

We had a similar case here in Canada about the leaking of classified info to the press. The journalist had their home raided immediately and threatened with 14 years in jail, but judges upheld her right to reveal state secrets and not disclose her sources.
Link (new window)
Canada has less freedom of the press than America, but still tries to maintain the idea that journalists will report what they find out and the responsibility is on those who have access to classified information to keep it secret. Luckily we were the best at keeping secrets during the cold war.

Libby got off lucky, so did Cheney, Rove and Armitage. I bet Libby and his wife and kids etc. get sweet jobs at Haliburton et al. for protecting them.

No bungee cord for your fall guy.

The dude did not spend one day in prison since his sentence was commuted. I am glad Bush did not pardon anyone in the admin because I would like to see Kucinich throw a war crime charge on some of your other flunkies.

Soooooooo.... A journalist overzealously pursuing a story is the same thing as the Vice President of the United States deliberately leaking classified information, putting an agent's life in danger, for purely vengeful reasons against the spouse of that agent? Betrayal of the trust of your intelligence agency is the same as Jimmy Olson being a dumfark?

I remember and still loathe congresscritters in the 70's who pulled the same shiat as Dicky here, revealing information we had on the Soviet Submarine fleet, just so they could get more money in the federal budget for their district's defense plants. Those dickwads were scum, and so is Cheney.

I didn't put my ass on the line, just for farkheads like Cheney to shoot it out of a torpedo tube for domestic political vendettas.

What color is the sky in your reality?

varmitydog 2009-01-23 07:49:51 AM
It's a direct consequence of playing by the "gentleman's rules" that allowed Cheney not to be investigated for treason. Now he gets to shoot his mouth off, playing the innocent victim, for the rest of his days.
And he will be parroted by several think tanks in honor of the glory that was the neocon white house.

Want to shut the SOB up? Indict him.

Scooter got caught in a process crime, ARmitage...the actual criminal, was never charged with the crime by the inept prosecutor who is now in charge of the investigation into the Rod Blagojevic vote selling (or did he?) case.

So this dumbass catches the WRONG person, who was merely a distraction from the actual person that he knew committed the crime even before the whole trial began!

So yes it was a miscarriage of justice. Scooter was found to have perjured himself rather needlessly but likely at the flawed advice of Harriet Miers or some other inept lawyer.

Scooter shold never have been put in that position and it is likely a case of prosecutorial misconduct considering he already knew who the violator was.

duh

The only thing that keeps me from completely hating Dick Cheney is the fact--if indeed it is fact--he was rushed down stairs and expected to be burned to death with several thousand gallons of jet fuel.

That doesn't mean I like the guy. I just think he was mean and corrupt before and meaner and more corrupt afterward.

Regardless of the ends, the means should have respected human rights and the rule of law not the rule of men.

Haven't had my coffee yet so I'm not going to look it up right now, but I seem to remember something about it being either Cheney or Rumsfeld that gave that info out to keep up the cold war. Something to do with Nixon saying the war was over since Russia was going broke or something? Super secret sonar that the Russians had (We knew they had it because we couldn't hear it. Turns out they couldn't afford to operate it or something?)

bah... off to my coffee

I didn't mention Cheney. What the fark is with you Politics tab retards with interjecting names into a discussion that they have no place being in.

I made a specific response about Libby, and his direct action. One could clearly suggest he was overzealous in his pursuit of an objective, just as someone could say that a journalist was seeking to 'take down' the secretive government.
