That, I'm told, is from Paradise Lost.

Good, maybe it'll give Cave the kick he needs. "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" was really disappointing.

Nice reference, subby.

Just saw the bad seeds in October. Great show.

I have to agree with you on this.

Man, being in a good band must have taken up a lot of the time it takes to record yet another album of Serge Gainsbourg covers.

Criminy.

/so um...the Bad Seeds are now one member away from being...Grinderman. Awesome.

I liked it, but that may be because I really, really wanted to like it.

GossipTrain: Just saw the bad seeds in October. Great show.

I'd love to see them, they don't seem to spend a lot of time in the US...

I enjoyed Dig, but it certainly wasn't up to some of his other work.

Yeah, clever referencing a Nick Cave song in a headline about Nick Cave.

Got to see them sat at ATP, so I got in just in time

I was disappointed as well - especially so, since the reviews I saw were all extremely positive.

Now, it usually takes a while for me to appreciate Cave's albums but "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" doesn't really do it for me even after half a year.

A hard article to read. I call upon the author to explain.

/the one song I dug, Lazarus, dug

Dig Lazarus Dig was OK.
But just OK.
Lyre of Orpheus/Abbatoir Blues was awesome, though.

swahnhennessy 2009-01-22 06:59:15 PM
Jesus. How could you people not like Dig, Lazarus, Dig? I, for one, am glad that Cave steered away from the piano-based introspection that seemed ready to escort him into middle-aged respectability. He broke out of that a little with Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus, but it wasn't until Grinderman that he really kicked it to the curb.

As for Mick Harvey leaving, that is a shame. Him and Cave have been together longer than most people reading this have been alive. I've no doubt they'll find an excuse to work with each other in the future, but it's still a kick in the pants - more so than when Blixa Bargeld quit. Still, if this frees Harvey up to focus more on his solo stuff that's not so bad.

They played here two weeks ago - incredibly tight performers, and they even played From Her to Eternity. This is a shame but not entirely unexpected. I'm all the more glad now that I saw them when I did.

I was waiting years for an opportunity to see them, and I was able to just last year. The show was far more than I had expected (and it was probably the most anticipated show of my life).

I'm sad to hear he's leaving... but I'm curious to see how it impacts the music. Maybe Warren Ellis will have more of an influence on the music now... which I don't think is a bad thing.

/I liked DLD, and was happy to see him get away from the piano-based album... I agree with swahnhennessy

I'm still pleased I got to see Blixa with Nick in what, 2001? Sheesh, that was a long time ago.

"We Call Upon the Author" was farking awesome. Rest of the album, alright, I guess, but not great.

I caught the San Francisco Grinderman show. As Blixa lives somewhat in S.F. he made a guest appearance for the encore, which was all Bad Seeds songs.

Awww. Things got interesting after Blixa left though ; it should be fun to see where they go with the Bad Seeds sound now that Cave is down two old ass members.

As much as I hate to see Harvey leave The Bad Seeds after so many great albums, it might not have a huge impact. Warren Ellis is Cave's right-hand man these days.

We Call Upon the Author was also their best song live on this recent tour.

Their live performance of "Oh My Lord" on tour a few years ago was probably the best thing I've ever heard...

Crushingly good.
