Well, out of respect for his policies, I think that the Dallas cops should just send the million dollars to Iraq and NOT guard his house. He can install Safetouch or something. Besides, doesn't he have Secret Service dudes?

Senescent Dawn 2009-01-22 10:36:49 AM
I wonder how much Blackwater would charge for comparable services?

dahmers love zombie: Besides, doesn't he have Secret Service dudes?

Yeah, but they only guard him when he is there. The Dallas Cops are assigned to guard the house when he's not there.

Godscrack [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 11:09:40 AM
Should have moved him to the Lower 9th ward in New Orleans.

I thought the news reports said he was flying back to his home in Midland.

Please stay in Midland.

In that case, here's a solution: Brinks. 29.99 per month, and if he orders now he'll get a second keypad installed for FREE.

WTF is there to steal anyway? Crayons and nude pics of Cheney?

FTFA: "an affluent Dallas neighborhood" and "the Dallas City Council approved installation of a gate to block access".

What happened to all the manly brush clearing?

jeffwashingdc 2009-01-22 11:27:46 AM
subby got it wrong. It's $1 million for every 3 minutes in Iraq, not 30 seconds.

The Dallas house is just temporary until the Costa Rican compound has a full cocaine vault and Direct TV.

Why not just have all the Fark Independents hire him? H'd be set for life.

The figure is based on the cost of providing two officers in a squad car on a 24-hour basis for 12 months

Sounds like they pay their little piggies too much

All of which seems perfectly reasonable to me. I did not vote for the man either time, think he will go down as one of the worst Presidents in history, but I just cannot generate any outrage over this. If I were not so lazy, I'd post one of those trying to give a damn animated GIF's.

How are you going to find your way in there, when people couldn't even find their way out of there becuause there was no one to hold their hand like they were used to

EvilTwinSkipster 2009-01-22 11:38:16 AM
No matter the cost. Keep him protected until we can get the arrest warrant ready and can put his a$$ in jail. I think we should charge him with gross maiming of the English language.

piglet 2009-01-22 11:38:57 AM
Maybe it would be cheaper to leave a map, and the keys to Cheney's house taped to the Bush's front gate.

HoboSong: Sounds like they pay their little piggies too much

Well, that is 6 cops for a year (assuming they work 8 hour shifts). That equals $166,666 per cop, but that not only includes their salaries, but vehicle maintenance, and any fraction of support staff expenses that are required for that year, as well as pension contributions, unemployment contribution, social security, etc...

I don't know about police departments, but in some industries an employees can actually cost a company about twice their salary. If that is the case here, then these guys probably make between 80-90k. Police departments may have special requirements (training, firearms qualification, etc...) and given the fact they are probably not putting raw recruits to guard the former prez's house the figure make sense.

Of course, I am of the opinion that they should bill him or let him hire private security if he can afford it.

fernt 2009-01-22 11:41:52 AM
Because the Dallas police are so good at protecting presidents.

INTERTRON 2009-01-22 11:42:02 AM
FTA: Dallas "is going to take care of the president like we would take care of any of our citizens."

Dallas provides 2 on-duty officers and a squad car to each citizen, 24 hours a day? News to me.

Tavernknight 2009-01-22 11:43:10 AM
Why doesn't he just take some of his oil money and hire a private army like Ross Perot or any other decent billionare.

Memes Ate My Balls 2009-01-22 11:43:23 AM
Awesome, I say.

There are a lot of people who want Bush dead and the last thing I want is for that evil idiot to be martyred. It will only embolden the people who rhetorically fellate him.

I don't think he is dumb enough to move there. I bet he'd leave if a hurricane was coming, though.

actually, i dispise cheney more than bush because cheney is smarter than bush and should know better..

bush, i feel, just got duped to a degree. he is still guilty of crimes against this country, but Cheney has no excuse because he is smart.

I for one don't care about him anymore.

blame the zany libs who make such guarding necessary.

Maybe he can be charged with no insurance, pay the city, then have the state mail him a letter asking him to pay a monthly maintenance charge for the next three years or else his licence will be suspended. Then the clerk at the courthouse will give him a stupid cow face when you ask how that isn't double jeopardy and ask if there's anything else they can "help" him with. Maybe that will happen.

/bad day

j_twelve 2009-01-22 12:09:30 PM
Well he did purchase a home in a neighborhood that was whites only until about a year ago.

So the police are obviously there for one reason - to keep Obama from visiting him. Did you see how many cops Obama had? shiat, if he tried to go to Texas to hang out with W. it would be a classic Sharks versus Jets scenario.

Costa Rica? It was in Paraguay that the Bush family bought all that land (and access to the worlds largest fresh-water aquifer) and freedom from extradition.

I guess the surge hasn't worked in Dallas yet. Maybe they will turn the corner this year and we can do a cop force reduction so he can be secure.
