Since I got my new car, I've gone almost 2 years without a tiger eating me.

Therefore, my car must be tiger-repellent.

and the last terrorist attack before 9/11 was in 1993...so roughly 2920 days between attacks. I think that shows that Bush let us down actually, they he allowed a terrorist attack in teh firstyear of his presidency after there hadn't been one for almost 9 years?

Or stories like this are such complete bullshiat that theyshouldnt' even be posted.

In my humble opinion, domestic terrorism against the government is becoming a more and more viable option. Let them be afraid, since they've been selling us fear for so long.

Many of these terrorists, including Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed, refused to talk -- until Bush authorized the CIA to use enhanced interrogation techniques.

Oh, is that what we called it. Good thing we are not using torture.

How many Americans were killed overseas again?

RealDisagreer [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 09:12:48 AM
Lets not forget that something like 9 or 10 US embassy's have been attacked by terrorists since 2001 as well....but those don't count because it's not really American territory and not real Americans who die in those attacks.

Let's see if we can get a list going

2003 - Saudi Arabia
2006 - Syria
2007 - Greece, serbia, Turkey, Yemen.

Again, these are "real" americans according to republicans.

But if you're born there, doesn't it count as American Soil so you can be an American Citizen?

Is that starting from the Richard Reid thing or 9/11?

What about those people that were killed at the LAX ticket counter, do they count?

a US embassy is American soil, any attack on an Embassy has always been treated as an attack on US soil...up until it reflects negatively on Bush, once it does then it becoems no big deal and not a terrorist attack on the USA.

i LOVE this. so bush's legacy rests on the fact that we had only ONE catastrophic terrorist attack on our soil during his reign? that's a helluva low bar for success you've got there, republicans.

* Excluding attacks by our own government on civil liberties, the mortgage mess, brought upon by excessive government deregulation and the financial meltdown by so called business leaders while government regulators looked the other way.

It's amazing and frightening what people will let you get away with if you talk patriotically. Practically the only people who self-identify as Republicans anymore are xenophobes and fundamentalists. I'm so beyond fed-up with them. Their tendency to turn to figures like Palin and Huckabee since the election gives me hope that disgruntled conservatives like myself might see a semi-viable third party form this decade.

I'll never forget Bush's inauguration on Sept 12, 2001, it's too bad he stepped down right before Katrina happened.

SushiJoe [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 09:43:18 AM
wow, that's odd, because in the days prior to Bush the country went 82, 125 days without a terrorist attack on it's soil....go figure

If Obama ignores warnings and thousands of Americans die as a result, and thousands more in a BS war he foists on a terrified and ignorant nation, but there are no more attacks on the "homeland" for the rest of his administration, will the AM radio pontificators and the FOX news bloviators call him a img1.fark.net?

Oh, and it's been said already, but needs to be said again.

ANTHRANX

Mailing weapons-grade anthrax to news agencies and federal government offices resulting in several deaths should probably count as terrorism at some level.

Notice I'm not even mentioning the DC sniper. What does a guy need to do to be a terrorist these days?

nekom [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 09:52:48 AM
It's actually an interesting question, WHY has there not been a major terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11/01? It's not as if the terrorists wouldn't like to pull another one off. The government has busted up a few plots, but it seems they were largely bumbling fools who probably couldn't have ever caused any real trouble. The only conclusion I can come up with is that 9/11 was an anomaly and the threat of terrorism since has been largely trumped up.

Dr. Rosenrosen 2009-01-22 09:54:03 AM
Now with new scarier spelling of ANTHRAX. THe extra N is for.... uh.... Not good.

Only scary Muslims count.

nekom: The only conclusion I can come up with is that 9/11 was an anomaly and the threat of terrorism since has been largely trumped up.

That would mean that the democratically elected governments of the UK and US (and, to a degree, others) used a limited and largely containable threat to steamroller through oppressive and authoritarian policies, and to go to war, without reasonable justification. Oh...

Whamdangler 2009-01-22 10:03:12 AM

I'm sure there was some causation. You can't fault the Bush administration for being underzealous in pursuing the war on terror.

Headline is technically true.

I hope that Obama can go more than 2,688 days without a terrorist attack on US soil as well. I fear that he won't be able to, and then all these discussions about ending petty political differences will be thrown out the window and both political parties will be back to sniping each other.
