Though the image of the "media" as completely in the bag for Obama, Matthews is a prime example of a talking head that doesn't understand subtlety with his opinion when discussing a major political figure.

I hope he is classified in the same category as Fox News when considering his opinion on political matters.

ALL 3 MAJOR CABLE NEWS OUTLETS PEDDLE TRASH AS INFORMATION, NEVER REALLY COVER A STORY BEYOND THE SUPERFICIAL EXTERIOR, AND CONSISTENTLY PERFORM ONLY SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN MY I REMEMBER MY COLLEGE NEWSPAPER.

More after the break when John C Reilly (Democratic Strategist) will take on Will Ferrell (Republican strategist) as they attempt to dig deep into the government's efforts to fix these problems.

This is [insert your favorite cable news program], your home for politics and drug fix for breaking news. Remember, you can't get that ideological banter everywhere! You won't hear 8 hours of rambling about the same inane topic anywhere else! So come on home to [insert your favorite cable news channel].

on the one hand, i do think there is something to be said for media that don't seem to understand that the america they are reporting from is a vestige of the 80s and 90s that hasn't really existed for some time now. there are a lot of reporters that don't get it. that don't understand that their common wisdom isn't as widely held in america as it is inside their insulated little bubble.

and of course, on the flip side of that, some journalists do get it. they aren't all on msnbc, though there are probably more on msnbc than other cable news networks. most write for websites.

however, on the other hand, chris matthews is a raging moron with chronic foot in mouth disease. and by the way, he isn't one of the ones that really gets 21st century america; to wit, he's always talking about "normal, white working class people", when the majority of the country isn't that demographic.

Impartial political journalist Chris Matthews on impartial news network that employs him: "It sure as hell helps to be on MSNBC today. Let's talk straight here: This is the network that has opened its heart to change"

The part in bold helps determine the origin of this particular story.

MSNBC is pretty openly liberal. They don't really pretend not to be. What's the problem?

The Great EZE [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 10:53:41 PM
As far as News Talking Heads are concerned, the guy's totally harmless. I'm sorry, but I can never feel anything more than humored by him. He's biased as all hell but actually knows a thing about politics and history (unlike O'RLY), doesn't succumb to the temptation of fake histrionics (unlike Olbermann), and doesn't seem overtly hostile toward dissenting opinions (unlike the whole of FOX News). Most of the time he acts like an over-caffeinated precocious 6 year old on his way to Santa's Village. We should all be so energetic about our careers.

Besides, he still has some intellectual capital left over from his verbal murdering of (the non-fat) Kevin James.

Y'all got to get over the idea that cable news networks produce "news" as a product. Networks produce audiences and sell the attention spans of those audiences to corporations.

You get all lathered up about the failure of news networks' "objectivity" and you miss the point entirely. Objectivity is not in their business plan. Telling what you want to hear over and over and over again so that you watch their sponsors' commercials is.

feckingmorons [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 11:09:14 PM
Does anyone actually watch MSNBC, I mean whole programs not just in passing as they change channels or when one of their talking heads says something silly and it gets picked up by the other talking heads.

I mean people watch CNN, Fox, heck even BBC, but I don't even know what channel on the cable box I would find MSNBC. I mean it is a combination of Microsoft and NBC why would anyone thing that would be good? Do you have to reboot your TV three times a week if you watch MSNBC?

eraser8 2009-01-21 11:12:47 PM
I flipped through the different channels during the Inauguration. MSNBC had, by far, the worst coverage. The talking heads just would not shut up. And nothing they said was interesting. Do these people really think their stupid discussions add to the experience?

I watched the some of the coverage on MSNBC when Bush was leaving the Capitol and getting on the chopper. Those announcers were quite rude and disrespectful to the former president and vice president. While I don't like Bush either, they were not very professional in their comments during such a momentous occasion.

I talked to a guy who interned at CNN, MSNBC, and FOX for his sociology of mass media degree. He said that the internal culture of FOX was the most conservative and CNN the most liberal. In his opinion, MSNBC was much closer to FOX than CNN.

How bad do you need to be to make CNN look good by comparison.

I completely agree, their prattle drove me farking insane, and I like the folks who were prattling. It chased me back to CNN which I expected to be just as unlistenable, but it was surprisingly unobtrusive (at least by the time that I switched over -- I'd avoided listening to Bill Bennett bloviate on CNN earlier). It was refreshing to find that some producer had the good sense to tell the talking heads to shut the hell up and let the ceremony speak for itself. It spoke volumes.

I watch MSNBC, but even I rolled my eyes at this.

Look, the network is actually fairly neutral... Until about five o' clock. Until then, they report the same "Breaking News" that isn't really breaking news and puff stories that all the other networks do. And they keep themselves pretty in check most of the time.

But man, when Chris, Olbermann, and Maddow come on, it becomes insane. And I'm a RAGING liberal. But at least then, at those times, it's on their own shows. That's why I watch them. I know what I'm going for. It's not the news, I've heard the news all day, I go to these shows to hear people rant their opinions on the news.

Where I draw the line is when they let it spill over into the other hours when they are suppose to pretend their are reporters. Remember during the RNC, of course, when Olbermann couldn't stop calling people out in the rudest ways possible and Matthews practically foaming at the mouth.

All I ask is that you keep it in your pants until your shows come on, guys. That's why you HAVE those shows. But when you are on the fake anchor desks acting like you are journalist, why don't you go ahead and pretend like you have a little journalistic integrity and objectivity for a little while?

Us on the left don't really need talking heads and our opinions fed to us. We also don't need our news filtered for things we don't like to hear. Just give us the news, we can dish all it over tonight after dinner. In the meantime, like someone above me said, keep it in your pants. You're making the rest of us look bad.

Actually, even Olbermann said that singing "Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye!" and booing Bush was too much, disrespectful, and uncalled for.

When Olbermann says you've crossed the line of acceptable Bush hate, you may want to take a step back and reevaluate your stances...

Chris Matthews will suck whatever cock will get him the most attention. Whether he's liberal or conservative isn't the question, the question is whether he has any journalistic merit. And the answer is no, he doesn't.
Olbermann is a little too gleeful recently. Maddow is keeping a more respectful-but-happy attitude.

Now, here's an interesting thought. We know Matthews would like to run for PA-Senate in 2010, but MSNBC likes him as a host. Maybe this retarded outburst is to get him out of favor, so he can leave the network and embarrass himself as a politician rather than an extremely large and loud talking head.
