admittedly, Glasvegas has me intrigued, but Alan McGee is a bit hit-or-miss. That, and he tries to take entirely too much credit for the bands he signed to Creation.

oh, and chalk me up as one of those people that just hopes Industrial just farking dies. The genre's been dead for years, yet it still persists while bringing absolutely no new elements to the table.

So, it's a zombie genre?

Also, thanks for taking the time to listen to the catalogs of all those bands and passing judgment subby. Hard for me to believe they're all "lame" but I'll take your word for it.

Well, the ones standing in front of keyboards wearing ironic Members Only jackets have to be, at the very least.

I'd like to predict that the industry will just recycle something that has already came and went previously.

I'm looking at you, Britney.

Okay seriously,
I am almost 26 years old and I have NO idea who any of these people are, and I am a professional musician. The only part I got was the one group (with the silly name, though they all have silly names) played guitar for the "Whos who of modern rock, Panic at the Disco". Panic at the Disco??? Seriously?? Who's who? I also noticed that every guy in that article had skinny pants and a sweater with lisa loeb glasses on, what happened to rock?

My favourite band is so cool that it doesn't even exist.

mrEdude 2009-01-21 10:17:06 PM
actually, NONE of those bands will be big this year
because there IS no BIG anymore.

When I submitted this, I could had sworn I included the end to this sentence. (...though you'll even hear of them again)

Little Boots cranks out electro-tinged dance-pop that plays like a new millennium Kylie Minogue for the blogosphere set.

Please. PLEASE. I mean it: please.
God I hate this kind of writing.

I was just casually looking through the list, and what do you know? i see my friend's shining face. weird. six months ago they were playing bars and now they are playing for 5000 people.

they are hey champ by the way. fun band.

myspace.com/heychamp

p.s. if there are any pre-hating farkers out there, just know that their drummer won the award for the top musician in the entire princeton college of music. so save your pithy comments for an article about nickelback.

"In the Hospital" embodies all the band's strengths: hand claps, punk-funk rhythm, vocal curiosity (we'd say frontman Ed Macfarlane scats at parts), vague, sexualized lyrics. David Byrne would approve.

"Hello... is this thing on? Good. OK, actually, I don't."

Interesting to see Bang Camaro on that list. I picked up their first album last year after hearing Nightlife Commando (from Phase) and Pleasure (Pleasure) from Rock Band. Its actually a lot of very fun, big chorus rock. It wont change your life, but it will make you sing along and smile.

Hasn't Riverboat Gamblers already blown up?

/they're pretty good

The Gaslight Anthem

You heard it here first, from a stranger on the internets!

I actually really like Combichrist. I've followed them, Das Ich, Oomph, Rammstein, Die Krupps, Nine Inch Nails, Hanzel und Gretyl, KMFDM, MDFMK, Skinny Puppy and Chiasm for a long time now.

/No, not a goth kid.

Bang Camaro? The band whose songs in Rock Band that I skip because they're farking awful? C'mon!

Bauhaus 2009-01-21 11:39:46 PM
Bang Camaro? They bring suck to a whole new level.

Glasvegas is really good though.

Sherjo311 2009-01-21 11:44:36 PM
i wish i could say these guys don't have a clue what they're talking about, but with the general taste in music ranging from "dogshiat" to "dogshiat with added sugar", they're probably going to be praised as accurate.

i find myself a pretty big music snob in regard to what i like, and it may give me some downfalls... but i thought i was deadon about the next new big/talented rock/metal band when i first heard Element Eighty (new window, sfw), but apparently after getting dropped from their label and running damn near out of funds, i was wrong. shame too, these guys were talented, fun to watch and most of all, a blast to party with!

Sherjo311 2009-01-21 11:45:12 PM
the only band from tfa that looked promising was combichrist. feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

CavalierEternal [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 11:59:22 PM
This will be the year that The Black Keys deservedly get so big that hipsters stop liking them.

Ignorant McNugget 2009-01-22 12:02:02 AM
At first glance:

Hipsters, poptart, hipsters, douchebag, hipsters, douchebags, hipsters, some potential, hipsters, no comment, hipsters, douchebags, douchebags, hipsters, hipsters.

It's gonna be a long year.

PerfectlyCromulent 2009-01-22 12:08:16 AM
F*ck you guys, Bang Camaro is completely over the top and awesome.

KajakPro 2009-01-22 12:09:49 AM
Umm crap, I was going to keep a commentary on what was good and what wasn't.
hmm.
Little Boots wasn't bad, neither was Riverboat, Black Gold is really derivative of The Killers from what I listened to, but that isn't bad for them.

Youtube died on me when trying to get glenvegas so I'll return to this later.

And Andrew Jackson Jihad is where shiat is at. Like Violent Femmes only with a darker outlook on life.

KajakPro 2009-01-22 12:28:26 AM
Okay, Glasvegas is like Coldplay-esque, and therefore gay. Combichrist isn't bad, but really not my thing. If they didn't look like the Orcs from LOTR I'd be happier. Delta Spirit is too light. The Whip isn't bad.

Well now. I'm done with that.
/Time for some Daft Punk.

carmody 2009-01-22 12:40:28 AM
I saw Riverboat Gamblers a time or two. They do kick a fair amount of ass.

Third_Uncle_Eno 2009-01-22 12:43:42 AM
a 16 slide slideshow? fark this shiat.

any kind farkers wanna write the list here?

TedAlsoRises 2009-01-22 12:46:18 AM
My cousin married the guitarist from Bang Camero...he seemed like a pretty cool guy...their concerts are a lot of fun...they did some nifty thing on youtube where if you sang their songs you can join the band on stage when they tour...

GeekUSA 2009-01-22 12:51:53 AM
Usually there will be at least one band on one of these lists that would interest me enough to actually go check them out but not this one. Bang Camaro is just awful too. I can't stand rock played at the speed of smell.

Dibikad 2009-01-22 01:02:33 AM
Reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5-rGN0ou_4 , gotta love that ending

DachshundPorridge 2009-01-22 01:05:26 AM
Seeing Combichrist in about two weeks. Have seen them twice before.

By far some of the most intense concerts I've ever attended. Pulse-pounding.

Kind of glad to see them getting more popularity. Kinda worried when 13-year-old goth girls start showing up at concerts.

mug_costanza 2009-01-22 01:09:00 AM
My $0.02...

Bang Camaro: decent at best. Fun stuff, but nothing earth-shattering.

Glasvegas: I've heard both "Geraldine" and "Daddy's Gone" by them, and I honestly can't tell where the hell all these Coldplay comparisons are coming from. I just don't hear it. But I do expect good things from these guys.

Black Gold: I like these guys. Another band I could actually see getting big this year.

As for the others? Never heard of 'em.

/good luck to all of 'em though.

danduran 2009-01-22 01:15:49 AM
KajakPro: Okay, Glasvegas is like Coldplay-esque, and therefore gay.

When was the last time Coldplay did a song that sounded like the Shangri-Las jamming with The Jesus and Mary Chain? In Scotland? You didn't listen to it, did you?

bighasbeen [TotalFark] 2009-01-22 01:24:27 AM
galactus5000: My favourite band is so cool that it doesn't even exist.

Mine exists in a parallel universe. I'd tell you how to get in, but, you know, they're kinda strict about who's allowed to like them.

I listened briefly. Upon actually listening to the song, (Geraldine), it was just the intro that had a vague Coldplay sound. Actually, I would have dismissed Escape is at Hand for the Travellin' Man based off of how much I had listened to.
Disregard my earlier comment.

RE: INDUSTRIAL

EVERYTHING IS A SCENE AND EVERY SCENE HAS A COSTUME & THEME MUSIC.

I don't give a fark what you like it's a scene there are people sick of you and your scene. You and your scene are not special, you and your scene are not gonna change the world if everyone started being like you. (yeah we're all adults here and you all know this already, but that line is directed at any kids on our nice fark lawn)

Like the music cause you like the music, the costume the people in it, the whole thing the scene, but don't let the scene define who you are.

Hell today there are even cross over scenes of genres once thought incompatible (cowpunk/psycobilly scene for example)

I don't give a fark what scene you are just be a nice person let's hang listen to some tunes of any genre from any era and relax and chill.

It's all just a scene did you bring your costume?

\scenes will never ever be like you remember them
\\enjoy life
\\\even fark is a scene
\\\\slashies!

Heist: The Gaslight Anthem

You heard it here first, from a stranger on the internets!

Actually I heard it in Spin first, then I listened, loved it, saw 'em live, loved it, bought a sweatshirt and now I'm the coolest person I know.

CZMisfitsFan 2009-01-22 01:54:09 AM
I've only heard Combichrist remixes of other artists and I'm never disappointed. Guess I should check out their stuff. Didn't know they were related to Icon of Coil.

/All the other bands/artists on that list look just like the hyped bands/artists from last year and the year before that. Indie rock is the new Hair Metal.

Stay Cool Babylon 2009-01-22 02:04:41 AM
Just picked up the Glasvegas album. Rather than delve into a Fark-exclusive discourse on its merits I'm just gonna say:

Get this farking album.

Unless you don't dig the Scottish.

That is all.

Stay Cool Babylon 2009-01-22 02:07:13 AM
BTW - the assbag who wrote this article also claimed that my band was going to rule the scene - all scenes - in 2008. But here I am masturbating with a stack of old Woolworth's circulars. So you decide what this guy's opinion is worth.

Cbrusky 2009-01-22 02:17:36 AM
Seriously I pretty much hate all indy music, fark you ie it's spelled with a y. That aside, Gaslight Anthem is really really good. Its like they somehow re-incarnated old Springsteen even though he's not dead.

/Really go out and get it
//My Favorite bands are Darkest Hour and At the Gates
///And I still love this band
