Tomorrow Never Knows not #1? List is fail regardless of the rest of the rankings.

Eddie Adams from Torrance [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 01:41:10 PM
Sun King at #156?

What a farking loser. That should be at least #148.

rocinante721 2009-01-21 01:50:32 PM
She Leaving Home ~ #3? Pretty much the only SPLHCB song I skip over

What a homo.

rocinante721 2009-01-21 01:54:49 PM
I wish I was in my home computer, so I can see what ones I listen to the most. Not necessarily the "best" but the most fun to listen:

In no order, off top of head:
~ We Can Work It Out
~ Norwegian Wood
~ Rain
~ Strawberry Fields
~ It's All Too Much (hey, it's a fun song)
~ Abbey Road B-side, no stopping
~ You Won't See Me
~ Your Bird Can Sing
~ Pretty any random song off Rubber Soul & Revolver

Brettster808 [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 02:06:02 PM
I'm surprised "A Hard Days Night" isn't Top 1. The top of the list is a bit "later period" heavy.

Brettster808 [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 02:06:37 PM
That should read "Top 10", not "Top 1".

sleeping martyr [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 02:10:44 PM
+1 for not ending the headline in a preposition.

I named my penis Daysnight

I did, but Mods managed to put an error in there anyway

While My Guitar Gently Weeps not in the top 10?

Seriously?

Dude has way too much free time.

jake_lex [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 03:30:52 PM
OK, I am inclined to agree that "Revolution #9" is the worst Beatles song ever: it's someone who didn't actually know how to make avant-garde music attempting it and failing, like a dude plunking the same 3 keys on a piano over and over and saying he's Philip Glass. But "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" next-to-last? Really?

NightOwl2255 2009-01-21 03:33:52 PM
#141 Penny Lane. Stopped reading right there.

List makers are like whores, some are better than others, but they all suck dick.

JerseyTim [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 03:53:39 PM
"Hello Goodbye" needs to be #184.

Also, move "I've Got a Feeling" up.

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2009-01-21 04:25:47 PM
183. "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"

Not their best. Are there really only two worse?

Gunny Highway 2009-01-21 04:36:38 PM
What a stupid idea.

Not a fan of "Back in the USSR" and "Tax Man" but I didnt bother to check where he put them.

-1 for the Rev #9 comment and +1 for 'She's so heavy'.

Rev #9 is NOT the worse song. In fact I would list Elenor Rigby there and any number of others.

Martstar 2009-01-21 04:41:55 PM
If he's gonna go through all that effort he should've gone for the book deal instead of just giving it away. But after just a cursory glance at the list, something tells me that would've failed.

KWPLunchbox 2009-01-21 04:51:14 PM
THIS should be #1 (new window, SFW)

Reminds me of Coldplay attempting to sound like My Bloody Valentine in their latest album.

Bah eleanor rigby is a classic I'd put it near the top.

And that just goes to show you how pointless these lists are since no one will ever agree.

The Beatles - A Day In The Life
The Beatles - Back In The U.S.S.R.
The Beatles - Dear Prudence
The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby
The Beatles - I Feel Fine
The Beatles - Paperback Writer
The Beatles - The Night Before

Just some quick picks from the playlist.

Kudos to anyone who would subject themselves to this task. Not only did he construct this massive list, he actually explained why he made said decision.

/More than any of us would ever care to do.
//so STFU already

I'm definitely pleased to see "If I Fell" at #14. It's my favorite Beatles song but it usually doesn't get enough credit for being as good as it is.

FAIL.

I might be tempted to rank the songs, but definitely not write up an essay about each one.

mdbuff12 2009-01-21 06:04:21 PM
The list is pretty good, but IMHO, Blackbird and Taxman need to be higher than 49 and 32, respectively.

Henry Holland 2009-01-21 06:04:32 PM
FTA: I mean, really, is there anyone out there who can honestly say that they listen to "Revolution 9" and actually enjoy it?

[raises hand] I've listened to it since my sister's got a numbered copy of the white album in 1968 and I'll never get tired of it, always something to discover in it. Here's a breakdown of it (new window) and it's made listening to it more enjoyable. I love this bit:

6:24-6:40 Intelligible speech (John/George, right): John: "Personality complex...industrial output...financial imbalance...the Watusi...the Twist..." George (left): "Eldorado"

To me, it's a perfect depiction in sound of what a low in an acid trip is like, Strawberry Fields Forever and Tomorrow Never Knows being the, erm, high.

I stopped reading after he chides Yer Blues on the basis of The Beatles not being good blues players. Um, dickhead, it was John mocking the really-needed-mocking British Blues Boom thing.

/Beatles FTW
//Rolling Stones hahahahahahahahaha
///Eagles v. Cowboys, ManU v. Liverpool, Lakers v. Celtics etc.

rocinante721: In no order, off top of head:

You and I have very similar Beatles tastes, it seems. I could listen to "We Can Work It Out" arbitrarily many times in a row and not get sick of it. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's so short.

redqueenmeg 2009-01-21 06:20:41 PM
"My Bonnie" ought to be #1.

Also, I still want to be the lead singer in a Beatles cover band.

I'm good at thinking of impossible things.

However, the list is complete and utter fail without Penny Lane at #1.

Nice list, but no way is She Leaving Home #3. I don't think it's even in the top 50.

Ditto with For No One at #13. Nevertheless, Long Long Long and Yer Blues behind You Know My Name? Really!? Fark this list.

Forkstabbed 2009-01-21 06:54:29 PM
Golden Slumber et al @ #4 !!

Even if the rest of the list was wrong (it's kinda not) that's enough on its own.

angusyoung: Nice list, but no way is She Leaving Home #3. I don't think it's even in the top 50.

Agreed. It's a glaring fark-up in an otherwise reasonable list.

/ yeah I went there, I'm TDM, it's what I do.

The Dynamite Monkey: Agreed. It's a glaring fark-up in an otherwise reasonable list.

On second looks "Good Morning Good Morning" at #45 also smells of farts. I might actually ranks that one well after Rev #9.

And "Revolution", the singles version, belongs much higher. The White Album version belongs lower...
