U2 has sucked in the creativity department for a while now.

However, Bono still rocks as a singer, and anyone who says otherwise can suck it.

HotLonelyTeenageGirl [TotalFark] 2009-01-19 09:55:02 PM
You know how the Simpsons had, like, eight really awesome seasons, one mediocre season, and then 13 years of crap?

No reason to bring this up....

Norad [TotalFark] 2009-01-19 10:11:27 PM
Lyric rhythm sounds like "Wild Wild West" by Escape Club.

MuckSP [TotalFark] 2009-01-19 10:47:01 PM
Sweet! Tonight I was really hungry to hear a song that sucked; that quenched my appetite mightily.

paulseta [TotalFark] 2009-01-19 10:59:50 PM
Norad: Lyric rhythm sounds like "Wild Wild West" by Escape Club.

How young are you?

It sounds like what Wild West West was stolen from, which is Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues.

God, I feel old now.

/In many respects, U2 are being clever, as they probably figured that your average music fan wouldn't have a clue what they're ripping off.

I like U2, but this song is pretty familiar on first listen - not a good sign :-(

Canadian Canuck [TotalFark] 2009-01-19 11:53:32 PM
Damn... that was... mediocre.

It sounded like they were forcing it the entire time.

PacManDreaming [TotalFark] 2009-01-20 12:46:00 AM
Ugh...glad I quit listening to them back in the 80s.

That may have been true ten some-odd years ago, but the 'ripping off' shiat doesn't float anymore.

Norad, don't get me started on Nickleback. Really, you don't want that :-)

It could suck a lot more

the three second guitar solo is kinda lame however, can we get one fill "edge"?

WearTheFoxHat 2009-01-20 05:16:50 AM
Love it! U2 haters can go suck it. Lord knows there's enough of you asshats here at Fark.

/up yours!

Kyro [TotalFark] 2009-01-20 06:56:55 AM
U2 sucks. Bono sucks. I only listen to indie underground recordings of senile old men babbling into Pringles cans.

/Not serious about the U2 or Bono sucking part

Brah 2009-01-20 07:06:51 AM
I wouldn't spend money to hear more songs like that one, but I'm really glad that they've decided to sound different this time around. The last couple of albums were definitely the result of an old band returning to their comfort zone of 20 years ago because they wanted to feel loved.

/actually really likes Zooropa

Already Disturbed 2009-01-20 07:45:43 AM
submitted this with an about-the-same-level-of-meh headline

tatum 2009-01-20 08:10:28 AM
The sheer arrogance required to change one's name to Bono Vox when a cat, properly swung by the tail, emits more pleasing sounds was enough to finish off any argument that U2 were ever worth a sliver of the massive adulation heaped on these pop rock poseurs.
Nail in the coffin was the "You have no business in the same room with Sinatra" duet.
Over-hyped, over produced, over sold, overrated.

STRYPERSWINE 2009-01-20 08:21:54 AM
Quite possibly the most overrated band in history.

assegai [TotalFark] 2009-01-20 09:10:14 AM
Wow, some headline. How's being clever worked out for you?

U2! more like sucks, man

SplitGuy 2009-01-20 09:20:53 AM
I clicked on the article, and I didn't immediately see a link to the song, realized I would have to search around for it, and said to myself, "Me'h". (Was it so obvious that I missed it?)

/My ambivalence to U2 has been high for almost 20 years.
//Respect their talent, however
///Realize that in the amount of time it took me to type this, I could have found it.

It sounds... single-y. I like U2, and I'm sure I'll buy the album, but I'm not listening to them the same as when I throw on the Joshua Tree.

barefoot in the head [TotalFark] 2009-01-20 09:48:41 AM
When you have a new release, it's important to Pump It Up.

barneyfifesbullet 2009-01-20 10:04:39 AM
I expect 2 or 3 good songs on the new U2 cd. Which, is about their average these days.

They haven't put a good record together since The Joshua Tree and I don't expect them to.

barneyfifesbullet 2009-01-20 10:06:44 AM
New U2 single is weak, BTW.

I'll give it another chance, tho.

listens again

Nah. It's weak.

Montrose 2009-01-20 10:07:51 AM
Before dismissing it as suck, try playing it a couple of times at a high volume on something better than PC speakers.

And yes, same lyrical tradition as Pump It Up, Wild Wild West, and Subterranean Homesick Blues. They all ripped off each other in that case.

Oh No Melon 2009-01-20 10:14:30 AM
oh god it's U2 covering Wild Wild West.

jj325 [TotalFark] 2009-01-20 10:21:34 AM
I actually thought it was OK for a single. Sure, not like the first time I threw on "War" and heard Sunday Bloody Sunday blasting out of my speakers, but not as bad as all the haters ^ are saying.

Satan loves a bomb scare
But he won't scare you

Hey, sexy boots
Get on your boots, yeah

You free me from the dark dream
Candy floss ice cream

Do what now?

Nah. I won't even bother listening to something written that poorly.

U2. Please retire. I live in constant fear that you will somehow be added to the Super Bowl Half Time Show.

I agree with those who say it sounds like "Subterranean Homesick Blues". That is the first thing I thought of when the vocals came in.

Wow nice amp. I'm surprised you had time to listen to it seeing as you had to be at the gym and all...

You are an idiot who doesnt know what you are talking about. PERIOD.

Achtung Baby is darker, more creative, more experimental, and much more edgy. A total Mind F*ck. By far the bands best work.

Have been hearing about how U2's older stuff is so much better since 1984. JUST SHUT UP ALREADY. Dont listen if you dont like it.

/Almost couldnt listen to Achtung at first. Sounded so much different than Anything they ever did.
//If you expect to listen to U2 once and then quit, you are never going to like them.
///Get on your boots has new experiemental sound in the song.
////Meaning that the Album will almost certainly be good.
///They released a pop song to get attention.
//Go back to listening to your brand new garage band
/Rant over

High energy rock band.

If you are judging them after one or two listens you truly missed out on U2's magic.

/I dont want to talk about War's between nations- Not right now.
//Pop song release that after about 5 listens gets MUCH better.

Hopes they never stop.

Achtung Baby

Even Better Than the Real Thing
One
Until the End of the World

The rest is crap.

Gangway Fathead 2009-01-20 01:22:48 PM
I like it. Other than the rapid fire meter of the lyrics on the verse I don't see any connection to Subterranean Homesick Blues, (especially seeing as how it has a riff, and a bridge and a chorus and stuff) but I guess everyone hears something in everything.

I love the "You don't know how beautiful you are" part.

Mode101 2009-01-20 01:41:39 PM
This all makes little sense until I hear the whole cd.

It's always better to hear this song in the context of the rest of the cd.

Sorry, if I'm still one of the few that doesn't treat music simply as a playlist.

Oh, BTW, on Achtung Baby, nearly all the songs were great, not just One, Even Better than the real thing and Until the End of the World.

The only song I've disliked on that album is Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses.

Bye.

/Acrobat!

I call troll. So Cruel and Love is Blindness are the two best songs on that album (after One). You listed two of the WEAKEST songs on the album, actually.

Jesus farking Christ - is there going to be a U2-Sucks!-Lulz! thread every goddamned day?

Some people like U2. Some people do not. The fact that they are able to generate at least one headline per day says all you need to know about them. They might suck, but they're still cooler than you are.

Jim R 2009-01-20 02:33:40 PM

U2 Sucks, this single sucks....the truth hurts, you'll get over it (Bono ball gobblers).

Cabal468 2009-01-20 02:55:43 PM
Sounds like a mashup of Subterranean Homesick Blues and a Love & Rockets song(can't quite place which song) sung by a castrated Daniel Ash.

Cabal468 2009-01-20 02:57:12 PM
That's not to say I didn't like it though because I thought it was pretty good...
