I have probably listened to those albums a combined 1000 times since I got them about 15 years ago. Both are total classics.

/Nailbomb was awesome too
//Cavalera Conspiracy is the closest we are going to get to any of those now :-(

That's too bad, I used to toally love those guys.
Also, with Chuck Schuldiner dead, there will never be a DEATH reunion.

Inner Self is still one of the best death metal tunes of all time.

This is sad news indeed. Would have loved to see them.

I think it's somewhat telling that people in this thread seem to act like the band's been in limbo for years, ignoring the fact they got a new singer a decade or so ago.

/Against was pretty bad.

Umbabarauma?
Soulfly was one of my favorites, following White Zombie & Pantera

seems like everyone here is in agreeance - sepultura sucked after max left. i'm no different - went straight to soulfly as soon as he split. and with conquer and dark ages i'm starting to believe man, i'm starting to believe.

Max & Igorr toured last year as "Cavalera Conspiracy" that's the closest anyone will get to Sepultura. Andreas has become a little biatch about the whole subject anyway.

CZMisfitsFan 2009-01-20 02:20:27 AM
Good, we won't have Max back with his crappy Nu-Metal leanings and his lyrics involving blood, fire, war, rising, and hate.

Lumber Jack Off 2009-01-20 02:21:27 AM
it's a shame they could never work it out. Sepultura with Max has always been one of those bands I wish would reunite so that I could see them live.

/there's always Nailbomb max

That should be 'was the closest', I believe they've stated it's not happening anymore.

Sepultura never went away. It just changed it's name to Soulfly and got rid of the useless members. True it's sad Igor didn't go along, but Max has recorded a bunch of bad ass shait since leaving. Andreas can play ok, but he couldn't write a song to save his life. I give ALL of the non-Max albums as an exhibit. Newsflash y'all, some bands need to change to grow. Max moved on and succeeded, Sepultura shouldn't have been allowed to use the name.

Umm... Max's writing went to shiat after Chaos AD. Remember the suckage that was roots. Both Chaos AD and Arise were wonderful master pieces, everything since has been complete crap. Apply that statement to both Sepultura and Soulfly.

I could never get into Soulfly and I'm a huge fan of Arise and Chaos AD (and even some of Roots).

I disagree. the last two Soulfly albums have been as dark and heavy as any of his material with Sepultura. mostly thanks to Marc Rizzo, but still.

Thank God you took the time out of your busy day to tell a bunch of Sepultura fans what you think. I'm positive their lives will never be the same after the day that some random internet asshole said something predictable.

/never really got into Sepultura

seveword 2009-01-20 11:03:50 AM
Dark Ages is the only good Soulfly record (I should know, I suckered myself into buying all of them), and Chaos A.D. was the best Sepultura record (that I owned). I haven't heard A-Lex, but apparently it isn't that great.

Andreas is a good guitar player, but, despite his shortcomings, Max really made the band. And Igor's drumming? Whew. I can't imagine ANY form of Sepultura without it.

Billygoat Gruff 2009-01-20 12:23:02 PM
I kinda like Soulfly's "Son Song" he does with Sean Lennon. I dig the riff.

Not a metalhead or a fan of personaly higyene: you'd need some serious ear canal blockage to mistake "Territory" in that song with "Gary Coleman".

"Great_Milenko- Good. Sepultura suck."

This coming from someone who took their SN from the WORST band of all time. Why couldn't you be the baby at the juggallo funeral?

Sepultura fell off after Max left, but everything up until then is amazing. My tribal S tattoo burns!

Tonight I'm gonna bust out the VCR and pop in UNDER SEIGE: Sepultura Live in Barcelona 1992. Greatest version of "Troops of Doom" ever!

/I'll take "Arise" for the win

Max and Igor ARE Sepultura.....Andreas is probably correct in his assessment of Max.

Saw Sepultura on the "New Titans on the Block" tour.....feeling old.

CoachieSmooth 2009-01-20 02:59:18 PM
Saw Sepultura in St. Louis in the mid 90s. Still one of the greatest shows I have been to. Some guy sprung up to grab an I beam and then crawled all Spidey like across the ceiling for about 20 feet and landed on the stage. Security quickly grabbed him and hauled him off. Max stopped the song and told security that the man earned being on stage and the band did not continue until the guy was brought back out. Worth the 4+ hour drive.

/Arise is still on heavy rotation in my car
//Watched a guy go to third while at the show, she gave me a wink
///Ate at Popeye's in East St. Louis after the show while a armed and armored security guy dozed in the corner

Saw them open (as in 30 minute set, first act open) for Death and Obituary in the late 80's (I was _maybe_ 16 but the band I was in at the time played there all the time so I could get in with no ID) at a club in Ft. Worth called Joe's Garage. A friend and I played cutthroat with Max for about 45 minutes and didn't know who he was till we saw him on stage. He didn't speak much English back then. they kicked ass and that is still on the short list of greatest shows I've ever been to.

/yeah, I know I don't have much of a point other than: Get off my lawn.

Kodiak Attack 2009-01-20 05:03:40 PM
As much as I loved their unholy triumvirate (Beneath the Remains, Arise, and Chaos A.D.), they should have called it a day after Roots. The only good that came after Max left was their "Bullet the Blue Sky" cover.

Actually, I'd have been fine if they'd called it a day after Chaos A.D. - Roots was a little too middling and nu-metal for me. Some really good tracks in there (the punk ones & the tribal ones), but the rest was just a little too... simple.

/Schizophrenia is fun to break out every once in a while
//as ground-breaking as it may be, Morbid Visions is just laughably bad

Beneath the Remains still merits a place in the 6 CD changer.

scary.

I heard Dead Embryonic Cells in the trailer for the GTA:IV expansion.

I saw Soulfly a month or two ago and half the set was classic Sepultura. It sounded like ass though.

Saw Sepultura (with Fear Factory, Fudge Tunnel and Clutch opening) on the Chaos A.D. tour in 1994 at the old International Ballroom in Atlanta. It was my first metal show and probably still one of the best I've seen. Even FF was good since this was when they still leaned more towards death metal instead of the industrial stuff.

All you need to know is the first three posts in this thread used the words total or totally to describe their fascination with this band.

/wasn't metalhead
//liked metal
///sat in for a friend in a house metal band for a few months

//still boring ass music

Great_Milenko: Good. Sepultura suck.

Not for nothing but you have a juggalo sn. WTF do you even know about metal then? Sepultura was instrumental for helping to birth bestial war metal ala Bestial devastations. Arise is one of the most well crafted death/thrash crossover albums, and Roots broke new ground again. How does one band go on to create not one, but at least three albums that are considered seminal in their influence? Oh and by the way, ICP was cool till I was 16, and even then I was starting to get embarrassed. Riddle Box was the last good one, if by good I mean not a complete waste of time. Listen to Esham troll.

Still have Arise in the car....need a new copy of Chaos A.D. Got to see them with Biohazard and Pantera for $5 in 1995 - they played Deer Creek during the now-defunct Deer Creek Fair where you could see the show for price of admission to the fair....got to see Alice in Chains open for Anthrax/Megadeth/Slayer for the same deal!). Never could get into Roots though, even with Mike Patton being a guest on it....oh well, hopefully they are on to better things.
