Should have gotten John Fogerty in on it as well.

/there's a Pink Moon on the rise

I like all the mentioned artists, but this just screams "The music SUCKS, but I bet we can milk Heath Ledger's death too!"

Go eat a bag o' c0cks. Drake was a damn good musician, even if he had mental issues that required him offing himself some 30+ years ago.

You know i love norah, but something tells me she's going to cover something like "mayfair" or "poor boy".

The tribute disk will probably suck (like all tribute album does)

but I cannot emphasize this enough: If you like or can tolerate listening to folk that's really mellow and melancholy : GO GET NICK DRAKE'S FIRST 3 ALBUMS

you can thank me later

about Heath Ledger being in it, it is just that he was in the middle of making a low-low-low budget movie about nick drake, but he died before it was complete.

so I guess they will add footage of that on the disk

He only had three, which is tragic. Unless I'm missing something...

well, he has another album that was released posthumously which is the 4th disk of the "Fruit Tree" box set. Worth a listen, but not as great as the first 3. Essentially badly recorded outtakes

And the first 3 are so equally good, I can't even decide which is better

Cue the tards calling Nick Drake "emo".

The good thing about this greenlight? I think I'll mine YouTube for Nick Drake songs this evening.

Oooh, ok. I don't have the box set, just the 3 CDs. :) Good to know.

GreenAdder [TotalFark] 2009-01-19 07:54:39 PM
Sure. He snubs the Golden Globes by not showing up, but he has time to make some sort of artsy-fartsy biopic.

I love Nick Drake, but I'm not too excited about listening to Jack Johnson's cover version.

For live clips or anything like that, you will leave sadly disappointed. No footage of Nick drake are known to exists. Only pics and a few interviews (sad)

Can we get some pics of Norah in here?

Great artist that will surely be bastardized by these easy-listening, milquetoast artists.

Asa Phelps: You know i love norah, but something tells me she's going to cover something like "mayfair" or "poor boy".

While she may cover those songs, she's already covered day is done so that will probably be what they use. Personally I think the cover is great. Heath Ledger did a cover of Black Eyed Dog a long time ago. In the video mentioned in the article, Heath Ledger kills himself at the end. Oddly enough Ledger ended up dying the same way Drake did.

Necrosis 2009-01-19 09:58:35 PM
I love Nick Drake, but I have no interest in a bunch of covers.

Of his three albums, my favorite is Five Leaves Left, but they are all great. A while back I found some bootlegs in a collection called Time Has Told me, I think most of them are available on the Tanworth-in-Arden set. There are a lot of great covers and other songs like Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, Summertime, Winter Is Gone, and so on.

dmax 2009-01-19 09:58:51 PM
Sellout.

I remember Drake hawking cars a few years ago. Worse than using "Revolution" for Nike shoes. I don't know who talked him into that, but he never shoulda listened.

/heh
//those were some extraordinarily beautiful commercials, actually
///reminded me of listening to him on sunny spring mornings, waiting for the potential of the day to present itself

heath ledger? what, is he tupac now?

Necrosis 2009-01-19 10:07:34 PM
Oh, and here are a couple tracks I like for those looking for a sample:

Things Behind the Sun
Day is Done
Pink Moon

Well, I mean, killing yourself in your late 20s... that's really reserved for rock stars who overdose and die in pools of their own vomit.

Speech impediment + suicide =/= musical genius

Actually Drake is up there with Davis, Marley, and the Beatles. It's essential listening for anyone into music.

I can't stand behind any tribute album that doesn't have the artists that referenced him the most throughout their career...

the Legendary Pink Dots

I picked up Pink Moon a few months ago, and haven't been able to put it down.

Robyn Hitchcock, too. He had a song entitled, "I Saw Nick Drake" after all.

I find Nora Jones unlistenable. I find her breasts quite easily.

Apparently he died from an overdose of mood stabilizers, seems like a very anticlimactic way to die.

Eddie Vedder is turning into Sheryl Crow.

He is everywhere. If there is a music industry tribute anything going on, Vedder is there.

ClintBartonWannabe 2009-01-20 11:17:43 AM
Okay so the headline wasn't as funny as I first thought, because I thought the headline was referencing the kid from Drake and Josh on Nickelodeon.

THAT would have been funny.

I think Eddie only likes three things: music, surfing, and baseball. And since he doesn't have a real job and it is winter, what else is a man to do?

And I am looking forward to this for no other reason than it will expose Nick Drake to many people that have never heard of him. And that is a good thing.

Replace the baseball with basketball and what else is there to love in life? Eddie V is the muthafarking man!

Nick Drake had a speech impediment? I thought he had Asperger's.
