Anything that reduces the amount of shiat put out by those Eurotrash-looking no-talent hacks is a good thing.

Indeed. Isn't it sad that great All American Acts such as Limp Biskit, or maybe Britney Spears aren't putting out music while these Radiohead posers continue to sellout every night and sell millions of albums? Strange how that turned out, huh?

Don't you hate the way a new Radiohead album always takes airtime away from Nickleback?

OVER.RATED.They're not BAD really, just not nearly as earth shattering as the hype would suggest. Plus, Thom Yorke is quite possibly the most pretentious hipster douche in the entire music industry. Every damn interview he gives is a variation on "I am a misunderstood sensitive ARTISTE". That act got old some time around 1995.

You know, that's a good point... did anything off In Rainbows even get airplay? I'm not sure I've heard anything newer than Kid A on the radio, but I don't listen to it (radio) that often.

I really don't listen to the radio often either but I have heard "Jigsaw Falling into Place" a couple of times.

If sales is your way of rating the quality of music, then Britney Spears (who I can't stand) is more than twice as good as Radiohead.

Spend your time finding some new bands to listen to (sounds like you have good taste) instead of wasting your breath.

Heh, everyone has music that they'll be embarrassed about sooner or later. Hell, I used to listen to Phish, Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Kriss Kross, Guns N Roses, and Cake (not all of them @ the same year). Yeah, so sue me and mock me.

Phish = Good studio albums, fun shows, gets old after a while
Hammer = Stupid fun music
Vanilla Ice = Same
Kriss Kross = Same
Guns N Roses = Dont see anything wrong with that
Cake = Fun stuff

Never be embarassed of something you enjoy/enjoyed. If you stop liking it that means you changed which is a good thing.

True that. I, too, listened to Vanilla Ice. AND New Kids. AND Debbie Gibson. And I liked that Cherry Pie song. Hideous, HIDEOUS musical tastes as a youngin'.

But if you're gonna poo-poo a band and then throw Cake out there as an example of superior musicality, then I'm sorry...you've just farked yourself in the arse with a rabbit.

I can respect anyone's personal musical preference, so if you lika da cake thats fine. I don't mean to sound pretentious here, but I'm pretty confident that no music critic with two working ears would say that Cake is a good band while calling Radiohead crap

I've never heard anything by Cake before this thread made me look them up.

I can't see myself listening to this every day, but I can definitely see myself buying a record or two by them, eventually.

Radiohead, on the other hand, is crap. Thom Yorke is whiny, pretentious, and boring, and this is coming from someone who owns more than twenty Yes bootlegs.

though I agree that Radiohead is not as earth-shatteringly great as the hype makes them out to be, I don't think I've ever seen Thom Yorke act like some kind of "misunderstood artiste."

But I do agree the non-stop fawning over clearly mediocre releases (Hail to The Thief, The Eraser, etc.) is more than a little off-putting.

I'm sure some music critics gave Cake good reviews, too. As I said before, if you like Cake than good for you, I just think that if you were to make a side by side comparison of the complete catalogues of Radiohead and Cake and say that the latter is better than, yes, you would be stupid

EchoDork 2009-01-20 12:08:15 AM
Radiohead has a couple good songs, but I find most of their songs to be pretty unlistenable. Especially when they're experimenting with screeching beeps and looped feedback (see: Karma Police). When they settle down and produce more musical songs (Creep, Reckoner), they're a bit more tolerable.

HttT wasn't bad, but it would make a much better EP*. It was a band clearly treading water as they didn't really know how to follow-up probably their most creative album(s). You could argue the same for In Rainbows, but I'd say In Rainbows had better songwriting.

*as would Amnesiac. Which reminds me: it annoys the fark out of when Radiohead fans consider Amnesiac to be some kind of conceptual opposite of Kid A. It's a farking outtakes album. A very good one, by and large, but still...

I can go along with that. Like I said I am not too familiar with the band so I havent listened to their albums in order. That is probably the best way to assess a band. I have promised a friend that I would sit down and do that one day. The guys are real talented, Im just not in love with their sound (fans).

I dont have a drop of their music on my computer or in my CD rack. Bought HttT when it came out, lent it to a buddy, and never got it back.

If you are trying to lure me further into an argument, save your breath, it isnt going to happen.
