Isn't a well-known fact that Fox is a champion of green causes?

gonzoliga [TotalFark] 2009-01-18 09:36:21 PM
Heh. In 2004, people complained about that other guy's inauguration party bill.

/still, costs have been cut
//just 6000 toilets for hundreds of thousands of people
///I'm drinking beer right now, and thinking ahead

itazurakko [TotalFark] 2009-01-18 09:48:17 PM
Yeah, this whole "ZOMG look how much Obama is spending for the inauguration!!1!1!" or "ZOMG look how polluting the inauguration is!!11!" meme is getting old and stale.

He might be blowing the bucks on some parties (I honestly don't know, because it's not like I'm going to any) but completely aside from any of it, it's going to cost a MOUNTAIN and a half of money just to handle all the crowds that are GOING to descend on Washington DC regardless of whether he invited 'em or not, partly just due to the "inauguration" thing but more due to the "wow, historic, a non-white guy got elected President for the first time ever" thing.

There's just nothing for it, people are GOING to swamp the city, and someone has to arrange for transit to handle the load, and pay for all those port-a-potties. You might say, money is being flushed down the toilet - it's being spent to be sure other things get flushed down the toilet, at any rate!

If Clinton had won, it'd be similar, I think.

In some sense this "breaks the seal," I think, but there's just no way around it, hordes of people want to be in DC for this thing, it's not as if the city really has any choice in the matter at all. And it will cost.

/not in DC
//will listen to the craziness on the radio
///live coverage starts at 5 AM

itazurakko [TotalFark] 2009-01-18 09:50:32 PM
But while I'm in here I'll say look at the bright side - all these festivities and all those port-a-potties are creating income for a whole lot of people.

Trickle down, as it were.

/so it's not down your pants leg...

musashi1600 2009-01-18 09:58:42 PM
How can a gathering of literally millions of people in an area of a dozen square miles possibly be "environmentally friendly"? That fact is so obvious it isn't worth talking about.

TiltedKilt 2009-01-18 10:05:34 PM
Furthermore, they say, if Hollywood stars and bigwigs really cared about the environment, they'd choose not to come to Washington at all. Rather than generate tons of emissions in their private jets and gas-guzzling SUVs, they'd have a better chance of saving the Earth if they just stayed home.

Doesn't Fox just wish.

By that logic, Fox should stop airing, fire all their reporters and shut off the servers. That'll show those Hollywood liberal types up, and make Fox the most eco-friendly faux news source in the States.

The Name 2009-01-18 10:07:56 PM
Wow, apparently FOX really does care about the environment. Does this mean they're going to stop with the whole "global warming is a hoax" thing? Hhhmmmm?

With just just 6000 toilets for hundreds of thousands of people I hope people don't "break the seal" too early.

This just in, Black presidents increase global warming because their skin absorbs light and gives off heat instead of reflecting off of white presidents and returning to space.

The next 4 years are going to be hilarious @ Fox.

Actually, Fox is anti-environment so why don't they spray aerosols 24/7 because of their stance? They aren't doing their part!

The good news is, the rest of the ideas that they came up with during the meeting when they chose this to use to smear Obama will be brightening our TV screens in the days to come.

Knowing the geniuses at Fox, they've barely scratched the surface.

The real bill is going to come Jan 21... When all of the insurance companies are hit with damage claims, all of the cleaning companies are called out to clean up the mess.

I am still waiting for my bailout check.... Maybe I need to quite my job, screw over some people, and sit on my ass all day. Then I can get some government money...

George Washington didn't even have an inauguration speech, and the entire ceremony was conducted in private in front of Congress. I'm pretty sure it was the same for the first dozen presidents or so, too. He could have done that and televised it.

It has been very enjoyable to watch Fox News fade off into obscurity and irrelevance.

It has become amazingly easy to spot people who get their "information" from them - they sound so shallow and stupid, while attempting to project an air of being "informed."

You can't make Republicans happy about anything related to Obama. There is no reason whatsoever to even try.

The only logical conclusion one can draw from criticism like this is that conservatives are douche bags. Of course, we've known that for a long time.

Huskadoodle: So it's okay just because?

Forget "okay" or official sanctions or moral outrage or whatever it is.

It's unavoidable. Even if there were no official festivities, people would pack the mall hoping for a glimpse of the motorcade. It's just how it is. It's an inauguration PLUS the first non-white-male for President. People are going to want to be there, officially OR not.

At which point, the question is "how do we handle this crazy crowd so that hopefully no one gets hurt?" That costs money. Police are on crazy overtime, there's the port-a-potties, the reroutes of transit and parking lots, all of it.

Obviously there ARE official events, but even without them, people would come to DC. There's just no way around it.

Same for the "ZOMG people get the day off!!!!" comments. Yeah, because traffic is going to be a clusterfucque of immense proportions. It makes regular old business SENSE to just let people have the day off or work from home.

Scary thing is apparently they were reaching some limits with the concert held this afternoon. Makes me wonder what's gonna happen Tuesday.

Me, I will be in flyover country listening on the radio. At work.

Reactions like this confirm my suspicions that "Environmentalism" is a political cause and has nothing to do with the environment. The left is adopting the same "it's ok when our guy does it" mentality that the right has had for the last 8 years and their guy isn't even in office yet.

Well, considering that those on the Right are already trying to blame the guy for all the farkups of the past year, despite the fact that "[the] guy isn't even in office yet," maybe they just think it's a new meme.

Yeah, he's not even in office yet. That changes Tuesday.

Do tell.

What would you do, if it's your city, and despite all efforts you make or don't make to the contrary, it's a viral meme across the planet that "history will be made here tomorrow, BE THERE!!!!" and you know that people are packing buses to flood the city as you speak?

'Cuz that's what's happening.

Sure, Obama can maybe cancel some parties, I'm not claiming he's not milking it, but just that ASIDE from any of that, hordes are coming. The city has to prepare for the crowds, who are going to flood the mall, flood the Metro, flood the streets, just trying to say they were in town when this all went down.

They're being prudent.
