To clarify, he actually smashed against a tree

TREX had great songs, but i didnt become a fan until I saw live footage of them. I didn't realize how Marc Bolan was both doing vocals and guitar parts, and he looked and sounded mindbogglingly AMAZING

HappyHarryHardOn: To clarify, he actually smashed against a tree

To be specific, his girlfriend smashed against a tree. Marc wasn't driving.

I loved the original T. Rex, Bolan and Steve Took. Banging at a toy piano, and singing Deborah. "Once Upon the Seas of Abyssinia" was cool, too.

It was a Mini!! Not exactly a sportscar.

You're all wrong...

it was a unicycle off an embankment.

Marc Bolan would argue with you there, subby, as he hated this song.

Jeepster?

37 years later I discover what they're singing.

Man do I love this band. Anyone see that sketch where the devil is forming a band and tells the guy that it sounds like an early T. Rex? Marc is one of my biggest musical inspirations.

Ah, and I would argue that Cosmic Dancer was T. Rex best song, but that's a matter of opinion, they had quite a few great ones.

I thought the T. Rex died after Eckels veered off the pathway. Right before he stepped on the butterfly.

Ride a White Swan was the best!

Weird...I hadn't heard of these guys until yesterday when my wife bought one of their albums. Good stuff.

Monolith is the best T.Rex song.

Puddy 2009-01-18 11:30:01 PM
20th Century Boy was better than this.

Your wife sounds awesome, Gaambit.

Mozzer and I agree.

Listen to Moz's Certain People I Know (new window)
It's basically "Ride A White Swan 1992"

I think this is the best song that gets tired fast.

I always wanted to see Telegram Sam used in a Tarantino bloody massacre scene.

No no. He was rollerskating and he hit a banana peel.

And to be more specific, the tree still exists and the Bolan fans have some shrine there every year.

Also, the girlfriend was Gloria Jones, who did the original of Tainted Love, made famous by Soft Cell.

Love dancing to T. Rex at the club. 20th Century Boy is the best, IMHO. Doesn't sound dated, still sounds fresh.

Dude, what the hell is that short story called ? I've been trying to figure out what it's called for ages. You know they made a film of it yeah ?

A Sound of Thunder - Ray Bradbury.

I always loved that song. Marc Bolin was a really good guitarist! Loved his cape! Saw the Byrds once and ROger McGuinn and Clarence White both wore capes, cool!

I think the conga player really had some mad conga skills. Probably should've gone solo.

/Bolan rocks, Took... meh.

Metal Guru is a good one. So good The Smiths called it "Panic" a decade later.

Despite its arguable over-use as an ad soundtrack, my favorite
T-Rex song is "20th Century Boy"

Just came in to say that everyone who loves rock music should see "Born To Boogie."

/"Baby Strange,": for this fan. Especially the live version in BTB.
