If this isn't the impetus for dolphins to grow legs and go after the guy, I don't know what is.

Boy, I can't think of any easier way to gain sympathy and understanding than to throw explosives at one of the most adored animals on earth. I mean, wow. Good game.

10 years? That seems kind of excessive in context to some of the crimes that get people serving less time than that. It's sick, and should be illegal, but 10 years is just stupid. How much is this incarceration going to cost the state?

He not only endagered dolphins but divers as well. There's no way he could know whether or not if they're there.

He deserves it.

I'd prefer him to serve his time if he's THAT dumb. fark the cost.

He plead not guilty, but everyone knows he did it on porpoise.

How many years would he get for throwing pipe bombs at people? Probably a lot more... I think the punishment is appropriate. Keep in mind he "faces" ten years... after plea bargains, good behavior and everything else what is he looking at 2 years? Ten years is the max and he'll only get that if he goes into court and acts like an ass, pissing the judge/jury off.

You may be right, I don't know. But I'm just curious, if this was somehow on land and the same pipe bombs tossed in the same manner towards kids, teens, and adults, how would you feel? I'm not saying dolphins = people, but what if?

(I tend to think most of our sentences are way screwed up.)

I suspect the long sentence has something to do with the fact that he was already a convicted felon. That and the fact he was using explosives. If he had just gone around stabbing dolphins and wasn't already a felon, I doubt he would have gotten 5 max.

Likely one of his fellow survivors had been hit by a boomer. He was just throwing the pipe bomb to keep the horde away from them 'till they could recover.

He should get a medal, not a conviction.

I'd say 10 years would be less than I think he should get. But I don't think animals should have the same rights as humans. Not that they don't have any rights, I just think humans have to have more rights. Call me a specie-ist.

I think the main problem here is the whole "making and using pipe bombs" thing. The government sort of frowns on that these days.

I was fishing in California once when the idiot captain fired one of those things about 3 feet from my left ear with almost no warning.

He just said "Watch your ears guys", and pulled the trigger before anybody had a chance to react to what he said.

The ringing in my ear lasted all day. I thought I had permanent hearing damage from that dumb motherfarker.

I've been diving and had boaters & fishermen run right over the top of us even with our dive flags out. Nearly got run down once except my buddy held me up from surfacing at the last ten feet or so as the boat passed right over my head.

Surfaced in the asshat's wake, yanked out my regulator, and swore at the SOB as he drove on in his outboard.

/Dumbass heard me, looked back once, then kept going.
