Poor guy doesn't stand a chance. Most women don't turn frigid until after they're married.

Chris Soucy, center, performs a marriage ceremony for Stacy Ramsey, left, 18, and Matt McCorkle, 19, outside 592 College St. in Lewiston on Thursday night. "It would have been nice if it was snowing," said McCorkle, who was raised in Florida. He convinced Ramsey to get married outdoors in January.

McCorkle, who's spent most of his 19 years in Florida, says he was the one who came up with the idea.

In Florida, he's considered a genius.

I wound up working outside most of the day Thursday at the food pantry in Brownfield, Maine. That was not fun. As for these two, for the guests sake I hope the ceremony was a short one.

And oh yeah,

I agree whole heartedly.

DNRTFA but a short(ish) wedding story:

This past August, my sister chose to get married in a wooden one-room schoolhouse that had its windows painted shut, no AC, and only one outlet in which to plug a fan. It was 110F (conservative) in the shade. The bridal party was wearing long, heavy gowns. The reception wasn't better, unless you factor in the ability of the bridal party to hike up their dresses under the tables to achieve some sort of air flow.

Not a single person danced that night. It was too hot to enjoy alcohol (everyone had headaches, sunburns, and the drinks warmed up too quickly, even with ice), a lot of the expensive food was wasted, and we spent most of the evening sprawled out on the lawn or slouched in front of a fan.

Despite all of this, the bride and groom were nauseatingly happy and I walked away with a very clear image of my wedding in my head: a handful of family and friends, a vacation home on Vancouver Island that would allow for last minute indoor/outdoor decisions, copious amounts of homemade food and booze (it helps to have friends that are cooks and brewers), and no dress requirements for anyone (I will be wearing a dress from my closet and a pair of beloved sneakers).

-28 in West Minot yesterday morning.

I was visiting my mother, and we had planned to head to Augusta relatively early yesterday. I woke up at 8:30, heard Mom downstairs and figured she call me when the bathroom was free, so I turned over and suddenly it was 11AM. Jumped up, ran downstairs, and Mom said, "Oh, I decided not to bother you until the temperature hit 0."

/headed out a few hours later than intended
//car made an interesting noise when it started
///problem with outdoor weddings is you have to deal with the outdoors- I doubt the couple intended the wedding to take place in temperatures that would make history

My uncle got married at the top of Canon Mountain (in NH) on Dec 28... We had to carry my great-grandmother, in her wheelchair, through waist-deep snow from the top of the chairlift to the actual top of the mountain.

Nice ceremony though.

Lewiston is off the tourist scene for good reason, but it's still a nice place to live. We're getting some good restaurants and whatnot. The enjoyment to cost-of-living ratio is great here. Don't believe all the bad stuff you've heard.

It isn't the armpit of Maine (that would be Rumford). But it does have a streetlight every ten feet.

Hell...how could I forget Rumford? Drove through there on Route 2 en route to Vermont 20 years ago. Makes Lincoln smell like a rose.
