Why, isn't he going to walk on water and feed the poor with a basket of fish while smiting the muslim terrorists and equalizing poor and rich into one great lump of humanity?

/I keed I keed, of course he will do all that and buy my groceries and put gas in my car.

Friggin' Obama - worst President since George W. Bush.

The people who have high expectations from his administration are the same idiots who elected him.

His mouth wrote a check his ass can't cash. That isn't all bad. I think he is going to find out the realities of the job and will have to revisit his positions. He'll be a hell of allot more like W than his supporters will ever admit. The line starts below.

Malbar: For the record, I still think Obama was a better choice than McCain, but he isn't even president yet and he's already failed to live up to a lot of the "hope and change" rhetoric his campaign and fanboys were spewing throughout the election.

How does one do that before they become President?

Personally, I'm amazed he wasn't able to live up to the ridiculous straw man that the right built for him.

If he can form a sentence that contains real words found in a real dictionary, I'll be happy. If he can travel around the world and not leave the impression that America's IQ is in the low 50's, I'll be happy.

TFA says the people didn't have high expectations of Bush. If in four or eight years half the people think ex-President Obama did a good job, he'll be as big a disappointment as Bush.

being optimistic means the terrorists have won. get back to the malls with all the money you don't have america, spend like there's no tomorrow. the USSA is your new reality. just be apathetic and cynical. be grateful for the bones you're thrown.

Edsel 2009-01-17 09:03:34 AM
So far he has done as well as I hoped, although some of his Cabinet nominations have been a little rocky.

The Geithner tax debacle hurt a little, but the public barely noticed and the economy is so effed that even the Republicans didn't raise a fuss because he's probably the best candidate for the job anyway.

Holder was hurt by the Marc Rich issue but everyone already knew about that going in, and the only ones holding a grudge are old school Republicans like Arlen Specter who are still butthurt about the Clinton era.

The worst was Bill Richardson, but Commerce is a pretty low-profile job anyway.

Other than that the transition has been going pretty well. Let's see what happens next, mmmkay?

I love it when people start to talk about the carnage Bush has left in his wake while on his drunken ride through American politics and the Republicans speak up and say we need to focus on the future not the past.

Then 30 seconds later they start sputtering but, but, but, Bill Clinton!

I like this narrative you're setting up, because even if the next eight years are a resounding success you'll be able to claim that they actually weren't and that it was all the media's doing for creating that perception.

This is true.

I expected Bush to be functionally retarded, completely incompetent and totally hostile to anything that wasn't integral to his backwards and cramped worldview.

I was certainly not disappointed.

By contrast, all the right wing fear-mongers who are convinced that Obama will be some sort of gun-grabbin', gay-lovin', wealth-redistributin' librul nightmare will be sorely disappointed.

Even a pumpkin as president would do less damage than Bush. That he has so energized Americans, so much so that he even carried Omaha, shows that he will be inspirational, and that will activate America.s true strength.

Yeah, his campaign slogans was "HOPE". And you're right, the polls show that people are indeed hopeful that we'll emerge from this national nightmare. So Mission Accomplished so far on that front.

EABOD, right wingers. You've farked us over long enough. 83% of Americans approve of Obama's performance in the transition. Have fun being in that 17% of miserable butthurt whiners who'd rather see America fail than admit they were wrong about Obama.

One President at a time. Even today, Obama hasn't made one single decision as President. Bush still has time to orchestrate some type of clusterfark before Tuesday.

How anyone can point to Obama as being a failure before he has had a single day in office is absolutely moronic.

SouthernManDunWrong [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-01-17 09:18:31 AM
He is projecting a trillion dollar deficit. You have to spend $31,000 a second to reach a trillion in a year. This means that your children, your grandchildren and your great grandchildren will be paying for the folly of your vote.

0bama is going to finish what Bush started. Welcome to the United Socialist States of Amerika.

(During the amount of time you took to read this post, the debt added another $930,000. Your great grandchildren will love you for saddling them with 80% tax rates (and they will be poor))

Realistic hope is one thing----the picture the media is painting is messianic, and that's simply not possible. Obama can't possibly be everything they want him to be. I hope Obama can steer the ship well, even better than the former occupant, but I'm under no delusions. We're in a world of shiat, and even the great and powerful Obama is puzzled. He would have to shiat rainbows and pee Amber Bock to live up to the hype.
