Does receiving count? She could have signed up for 10,000 text alerts on websites.

From TFA: Brad Cox's 14-year-old daughter, Emilee, sent or received more than 35,000 messages a month twice in the past year.

Guh? My math may be fuzzy, but I'm coming up with a text a minute, not 65.

35000 messages / 31 days in a month = 1130 messages a day
1130 messages / 18 hours of awake = 63 messages an hour

I'm sure there are a lot of parents who do.

Also, the article doesn't say if the dad does/doesn't pay her cell bill.

Hax.

Sent and received? Doesn't seem to bad then, at least not in comparison to the 14,000, which was sent only. Presumably, sent to received ratio is about one to one, so this girl probably only sent around 3,500 more.
I'd yell about kids these days, but I wonder how many IMs I logged when I was that age. Alas, my Trillian records do not go back that far.

Have your daughter be that stupid and cost you a pile of dough, or sell her for $16,000, 160 cases of beer, 100 cases of soda, 50 cases of Gatorade, two cases of wine, and six cases of meat?

Tough call that.

What everybody calculating how many texts she is sending per unit time are missing is that teens today don't text one message to one friend at a time. I have a niece who typically sends over 5k a month, and the trick is to send each message to everybody in your mailbox (think "reply all"). that way with a few keystrokes you can send hundreds of texts. Over the holidays she would get "only" about 10/hours, but when she replied she would reply to her whole circle (or one of her circles), keeping up her average.

35k sent and received, but she probably sends and receives from distribution groups to like 10 or more of her friends, and each one counts as one. If she sends out one text to 10 friends that "Matts hot 4 sarah", that's 10, then she gets at least 10 "OMG!!!"s back, there are 20 texts in like 3 seconds.

Speaking of math, anybody wonder when this girl does her homework?

Or eating?

At least they know she's not fooling around with boys in her spare time.

I'd wonder why the parents would let her do this, but (a) it's doubtless an unlimited plan, and (b) as a parent myself I know that sometimes, anything that shuts your kid up is considered a good thing.

Note to all young male Farkers. Attention whores such as Emilee Cox are not the type of person you should persue. She will be unfulfilled unless she is in constant contact with all of her BFF's. You will not matter in her life. It might be acceptable to toss her the bone for a single night but don't make the mistake of turning that into a long term relationship. You will never come first in her world.

No kidding. Just use her for sex and dump her before she realizes your promise to pay for her cell phone was bullshiat.

But whatever you do, WHATEVER you do, DO NOT let her borrow your phone. Ever.

Alonjar 2009-01-15 09:18:42 AM
This isnt that amazing at all. When I was a little younger, I would routinely have AIM conversations that when analyzed were over 5,000 messages each, in one sitting.

The math works out to like 60 an hour for her, which if you include received, is only 30 texts sent an hour. I could send thirty texts in 5 minutes easily.

/Yawn

I'm guessing you're not a math major...

If she was sleeping 8 hours a night (in other words, awake for 16 hours per 24), that comes out as 1 message every 49 seconds.

30 days x 16 hours per day x 60 minutes in an hour x 60 seconds in a minute = 1,728,000 waking seconds in a month.

Now divide that by 35,000 = 49.37 seconds for each text message

/I think
