That's why we have an "OBVIOUS" tag. R or D, it doesn't matter. Same lies, same corruption, all that changes is the name on the door.

If you really think Bush hasn't continued to make Osama a priority, or that Obama won't either, I have some bridges to sell you.

This is typical for Obama or most politicians. Promises more than he can deliver before election, and then promises far less than he can deliver until the next election cycle (so as to keep expectations low).

As far as I can tell, Obama is Bush's third term, and since Bush did a pretty good job of preventing another 9/11 and making progress in the middle east, I'm happy about it. Obama is showing serious smarts here.

/yeah, I know I have to hate one of them (bush or Obama), but I don't. They both suck in similar ways too, though.

"My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him," he said. "But if we have so tightened the noose that he's in a cave somewhere and can't even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America."

How would you know he's not communicating with his operatives? If you don't know where he is, you don't know who he's talking to.

can't even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America.

Obama made a mistake with the original threat. Keeping him on the run is more than enough. Even Bush figured that out.

Most important: Terrorism is a media policy -- attention is the oxygen terrorists live on.

Here'S was Obama should do:

1) Emphasize how many Muslims AQ kills.
2) Support moderate Muslims who oppose AQ
3) Point out the many fatwas against terrorism
4) Avoid doing stupid things like what Israel is doing in Gaza.
5) Continue the covert targeting of specific radicals like Osama
6) Support nation building in failed states like Afghanistan and Somalia.

Ha! An actual policy recommendation! Now carry on whining.

Madbassist1 [TotalFark] 2009-01-15 06:53:47 AM
You people are obtuse. Did it ever occur to any of you that there is more going on here than we know about? Obama was all "end the war in Iraq, win the war in the 'stan" after the election, however when he had obviously been briefed on classified information He dials the rhetoric back. I don't know whats going on, or why, but I'd bet dollars to donuts there is a reason we cant get out of Iraq as quick as we would like and that there is a solid reason why we arent going gung ho in afganistan

/nope, no sources
//just conmmon sense
///remember when republicans said that it was 'asinine' that the outrageous gas prices were because of 'speculators'?

When was the last time we have seen this guy with anything that shows he is alive in recent times? How about a video of him watching the American Idol auditions? Until I see something like that, he is room temperature. Audio tapes don't cut it. With video technology today, making a video is not that hard, just look at YouTube.

9/11 happens. Bush introduces new security measures.

Another attack happens: BUshiatLER has failed! Impeach him! His reforms did nothing!

No Attack: There is no proof Bush's new security measures have worked!

Yeah, because Bin Laden is the focal point of all Islamic terrorism. It's not like it's a global struggle against many different entities.

So the gist of all this from you normally liberal Farkers is Bush was right all along about Bin Laden but we're only willing to admit that now that Obama is saying it. Thanks for the heads up!

Mr. Right 2009-01-15 07:04:35 AM
During the campaign, Obama talked a lot about things his liberal base wanted to hear. He was going to get us out of Iraq within 60 days, he was going to close Gitmo immediately, he was going refocus on Afghanistan and get Bin Laden. Then he started getting the same security briefings the President gets and his positions started to change. It's one thing to want a perfect world, it's quite another to have to deal with reality.

Obama appears to realize that several of his promises were ill-advised. At least he has the intelligence to modify them. It will be interesting to see how long the more rabid leftists among his followers will continue to support him. It will also be interesting to see how the media covers for him. Since his changes appear to be in the direction of common sense, I'll support those changes.

Somebody in the State Department know where Bin Laden is.

This person(s) is a staunch Democrat who has kept the info on the QT to make Bush look bad.

This person will "suddenly find" Bin Laden within a few months of Obama's swearing in.

The Press with laugh and say that Bush couldn't find Bin Laden in 8 years, but Obama did it in just a few months. The Press never asks Obama a difficult question again...as if they ever have.

Obama hits 93% in the popularity polls.

The person at the State Department gets a raise and a promotion.
